There has not even been a single report of a patient needing a ventilator, and not being able to get one.
Some NY hospitals at or near capacity? Sure.
I believe others need their heads examined. Just look at the numbers they were projecting a few weeks ago. People were swearing there would be people dying and doctors choosing who to give ventilators to.
It means that they actually did their job and it worked. Rather than congratulating them, you believe this is some sort of conspiracy theory? I think there are more appropriate websites for that. I mean really look at Italy where they were just letting people go - lots of them - because they didn't listen.

Look at Japan. One of the richest countries in the world with one of the best health care services supposed to have it all under control weeks ago today BBC news says their health service is about to collapse using the same targeted testing procedures. Note it
Message...quite yet, it's way to early to be throwing roses at yourselves with people going back to work in Chiangmai and Qs for food down the street.
They also have the oldest population on earth. That place is going to be a bloodbath.
Singapore is exploding too with a second wave.
I think that Thailand's tourism industry is shot for 2020 and that takes you right to December 31. Nobody is going to insure anyone going there while this is going on.

One thing about chinese - when they need to save money they have no problem not going out and getting a coffee, staying at home, and certainly not going on vacation.
They are a tap that gets turned on and off.
Nobody on earth is thinking about booking a trip right now.

I think for poor people it's far worse- that 5000 baht scheme is a failure.
It's assumed that the stimulus will materialize!
It's assumed by many that reopening is akin to back to normal!
I don't think the Thai Baht will drop much in relation to the pound- it could actually strengthen further.
Thailand is in a truly awful position because it's so reliant on tourism, and imo even if the planes start flying then it will take ages to recover even 50% of visitor numbers.
Oh absolutely.
Let's say that this goes away tomorrow - we are in a major recession right now and if people have no money they aren't going anywhere.
The question isn't is tourism destroyed this year, it's is there going to be any tourism next year? It makes one kind of sick thinking about it. There are many Thais who have this as their bread and butter and what could happen is nothing more than terrifying.

Yes good to invest in a security system. Thai people aren't generally criminals, but desperate hungry people do things sometimes. That is the problem.
So remove all the people in tourism because it's done. If it lasts the whole year, you can take off what 13 percent GDP? And demand for goods is in the toilet and orders are down world wide. This is not a good combination, and thinking that Thailand is going to do fine is probably not going to happen.
This is a brutal hit for any people, and stories of them taking gold in to get cash is a red flag.
Soon enough they are going to get hungry. I wouldn't worry about cashing in on a low currency or getting back to how things "used to be".

Yeah yeah.
So whilst other countries are actually testing and getting numbers that are closer to reality, Thailand is not testing and has been proven to be making up things on numerous occasions.
So let me get this straight, Singapore has more cases than Thailand for a population of 5.6M, and Thailand less cases at 70M population?
Thailand must be lucky. Must have something to do with Buddha I think.
And then, these countries that have the nerve to manipulate data (China included), then use these fake numbers against countries that are really testing and show more real numbers.
I agree, it doesn't make sense at all. It seems that people only care about optics.
For a country so heavily dependent on tourism the crash could be astoundingly brutal. But it's important to understand that things change very quickly and I do hope this happens.

To say that if you have it you have immunity is incorrect. They are not sure at all that this is the case at this point.
We need to be honest: as long as there are people infected in your country and you entertain the possibility of re-introducing it nations won't be letting anyone in for tourist purposes. If someone was dropped on their head and wanted to visit thailand to sit in their hotel room for 14 days, then, wow that's up to them. Then when they go they can go home and sit at home for another 14 days.
I can't see how the tourist season can be saved in 2020 in a meaningful way.

These numbers seem suspiciously low to me.
Hovering around the 30-40 mark for the past few weeks.
Anyone else feel that or is it just me?????
They do but it's hard to say. It wouldn't surprise me.
Countries like this would be decimated if it weren't for tourism.
On the flip side, things are going very well, much better than expected. I hope for the latter not the former as I"m sure we all do.

Domestic tourism is basically not going to exist unless you are the 1 percent.
When can tourism get going again? When can the world's economy get roaring again? I fear it may not be for a long while yet.
Hope I'm wrong.

Gold goes first, then car, then scooter, then whatever is not nailed to the ground, then somebody else's property and so on. Fortify your castles, thieves are coming.
When I read this post that's the first thing that went through my mind too. The safeguards afforded to first world nations simply don't exist here yet. Thailand is, forgive me and I'm not trying to incite anger, a juvenile when it comes to problems like this and in many ways they simply lack the tools to help financially.
It's worrying.

The sad fact is tourism is not really going to come back until there is a vaccine. They aren't going to let people in when this pandemic is i n full swing, possibly starting this all over again.
Could I be wrong? Sure, things are changing fast.
But I struggle to see how under any scenario people will go to Thailand in the next two years. The numbers will be horrifying and not just Thailand - worldwide.

I look at the numbers and wonder too.
The way the news is going around and armchair medical personnel, it's incredible.
Yes, Peru is never hot. Other than the Latinos there, it's a cold bleak country.

I was bored, so I thought I'd see how the death rate of COVID-19 in hot countries compares to COVID-19 in colder countries.
If you don't want to read to the end, approximately 2.6% of all COVID-19 deaths happened in hot countries.
All numbers taken from today:
https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/
08/04/20 COVID-19 deaths per hot country (temps averaging over 20 degrees C between Jan-Mar)
Brazil 686
Indonesia 221
Philippines 177
India 160
Mexico 125
Peru 107
Dominican Rep 98
Malaysia 63
Argentina 60
Pakistan 57
Panama 55
Australia 49
Thailand 27
Honduras 22Other countries (fewer than 20 deaths) 250 approx
total hot deaths 2157 2.6%
total other deaths 81,488 97.4%
total all deaths 83,645
Interesting numbers.
Just so you are aware, Peru isn't hot.
I can confirm to you too that scientists remain unconvinced so far that heat has anything to do with transmission rates. That's so far.

Exactly 3 weeks ago - Italy had 569 cases and 8 deaths.
Today 139,000 cases and 17.669 deaths. And there's a lot more that are going to die yet from that 139,000 infections.
This is what happens when you don't flatten the curve.
You older expats really need to stay inside for now if you can. Be careful.

I wonder how their gofundme page is going.
I haven't seen it, but if it doesn't exist I'd be surprised.
Irresponsible people use gofundme heavily.

Don't touch your face.
Yes, carry hand gel. This virus spreads like crazy. It is incredibly easy to get if it's where you are. Think about covid as dog excrement that is smeared everywhere, everything you touch or is handed to you. Even plastic bags from the grocery store, if applicable.
Washing your hands should take around 30 seconds or so. Wash throughly, including your wrists.
Be vigilant, very vigilant and you will be just fine. ????

THANK GOD THAT PROBABLY DOESN'T EXIST BUT I'LL PUT THE SAYING OUT ANYWAYS!
Nobody is testing as much as they should.

I wonder if they will make their 40 million visitor quota or whatever the devil it is.
30 million?
20 million?
I feels like much less.
It's not that they are or aren't going to open it, it's most nations have travel warnings out travelling... well, anywhere now.
One horse wonder.

You could get it again. How long any immunity may last is a complete unknown. It could only be a few months if you only get a mild case first time round.
That's scary.

Eventually the death rate will tell us a fair bit.
Unless they are covering that up too.
Many countries aren't testing enough. There simply aren't enough on earth, so no conspiracy theory here.
Time will tell if it's multiplying like crazy or isn't. Hope it's the latter.

There is lots of skepticism from people who obviously have no medical training whatsoever.
I understand that we should be wary of news sources.
Remember that the main problem if you get a large wave and you get sick is you don't get any help whatsoever. The data points to the problem time and time again, unquestionably. In Italy people are dying without care. People are being taken off life support as the prognosis becomes poor and the ventilator will go to others.
You don't generally know which group you will be in - the 20 percent that get very bad symptoms. The 5 percent that needs hospitalization. Or the 3 percent that die. (arguably these numbers)
If you don't stop this wave you're probably dead in this scenario. And I assume many of you are over 50, probably overweight (some), have medical conditions (many). The ramifications of you getting sick can be much more serious.
What will happen? Only time will tell. All these people talking about hopeful outcomes I sure hope it happens but it hasn't happened yet, not by a long shot.

The plane fare is for both ways basically. Nobody is coming here on the plane, it's flying empty. It's an emergency and it's up to the airline to charge you appropriately.
If you don't like it, then don't ask for a plane to come get you and stay here.
It's rather simple.
It's a world pandemic. You're here, you want to go there. You should go now because eventually you're really not going anywhere and you may not like the way things are in Thailand. Or home. Your life, your choice like right now.
Sorry to fear monger, but you never know what will happen.
I'd get on the plane before the airline goes "nips up".
