  1. I would definitely prefer roughing it with 5 other people who haven't taken a shower or had a bowel movement than messing around with that LOL. You know the price - the job gets done - no unforeseen drama. BTW, if they force or entice you to pay extra for what should be free, it's not a bribe. A bribe suggests the traveler is corrupt, and that's not the case here.
  2. I've also heard that people trying to do it on their own can have trouble coming back to Thailand on the same day. The Cambodian border officials actively discourage them.
  3. I suppose we could say twice, if we count 2023 BC, but that's only retrospectively as they would had a different name for it back then.
  4. It's better than sitting on a farm in Nakonsonowhere pretending to be content. Perhaps 1000s is ok. Millions might be a bit much LOL. If there are lots of tourists and other expats around, the available services (rentals), food, and shopping are better. Also, it is not usually necessary to learn the local language. You don't become a focused target as you are when you're isolated from other foreigners. I've lived in tourist areas all my life and I like it. I have no complaints about Pattaya. I've also lived in places (in the Philippines) where there are very few other foreigners around, where I stand out from the rest - and I don't like that. There you go, some reasons for you. Each to their own.
  5. Dangerous to society how? He's only dangerous to himself and has done his fair share of donating to make others happy. Hopefully, if he finally decides to jump, he'll make sure the ground is clear.
  6. Calling the police would have been a total of time, especially on that night with the huge crowd. Beach Road fireworks are right at the police station. An invitation for the driver to attend at the station to sort it out would have been sufficient to send him scurrying on his way. A simple, "Sorry I don't have the cash to pay you as I don't carry that much cash" would have been quite helpful.
  7. IMO one of the biggest missteps of this forum was to do away with the ThaiVisa mobile app. In these days where everyone is mobile it's an incredible step backwards. I used to use it a lot. I wouldn't even bother to access this forum from a browser on my phone.
  8. Of course, he would be conscious. The fall took about 5 - 6 seconds. That's too quick to think about anything at all. He fell from the 45th floor to the pool on the 6th floor, so assuming an average condo story height of about 3.65 m, he fell 39 floors or about 142 m. According to the online "Splat calculator", using a body weight of 70kg at 142 m: The Splat Calculator - A Free Fall Calculator Speed at impact:52.76 m/s or 189.92 km/h Time until impact: 5.38 s Energy at impact: 97412.00 joules
  9. They wanted to keep it a secret, yet they posted a photo of the condo's pool and mentioned 46 floors. Not hard to figure out which building. The Unixx has 47 floors.
  10. There are many wild animals that love getting drunk or high, and some become quite addicted, usually to their detriment. Here's one video of a series of 3. The wild African elephants are really into alcohol. 3 Animals That Enjoy Being Drunk And High
  11. I have a friend who lost a leg in that bombing. He was in his 20s at the time. I've been there 3 times, the last time in the late 90s, so my impression is a bit dated, but Bali doesn't hold a candle to Pattaya as a retirement option. It's a nice place for a vacation, but not permanent living unless you're into surfing.
  12. It would probably depend on where you live and what is growing in your backyard. Pot or opium use would be more convenient than producing alcoholic beverages if these plants happen to be growing in your garden LOL
  13. I suspect you have other problems and you're blaming it on your pot smoking. Correlation is not causation. People suffer all types of psychological conditions with or without pot.
  14. Albeit at a much slower rate. The forum runs about 10x slower than before their outage. Often pages don't load at all, and I have a very fast internet connection. This will deter a lot of people.
  15. I agree it's much better this way, not knowing who left the reputation. People just use the sad or confused emojis because they got rid of the thumbs-down emojis, so there's no other option to express dislike or hate for a post. In the latest update, they also stopped displaying reputation scores (you can still find them, but they are buried now), which is also a good move as it slows down trolls who are obsessed with such metrics for whom it became their main goal in posting.
  16. Whey is a byproduct of cheese making. It's a natural part of milk and 20% of milk's total protein. It is one of the most studied proteins and definitely a healthy addition to the diet. On a one-on-one comparison, no other protein comes close. It not only provides much-needed protein to people who are undernourished, but it actually has health benefits. It's good for you! You could use a crash course on whey protein. Whey Protein 101: The Ultimate Beginner's Guide
  17. Whey protein is real food and superior to your regular meals as a protein source. No one suggested we should use Whey protein as the sole source of protein, but there are many advantages to using Whey protein as a supplement. It is a much cleaner source of protein than eating meat and other animal products and it can have a substantial benefit in controlling body weight for overweight people who eat too much, which includes most expats that both eat too much and are sedentary.
  18. I clicked on this story to find out if the aircraft crashed. I expected that an engine explosion as written in the title might destroy the wing and cause a crash, however, it was only an engine failure with some sparks flying.
  19. Here's an excellent lead-in to learning more about amino acid ranking of foods, with many references for further study. Digestible Indispensable Amino Acid Score (roasted peanuts are on the list)
  20. It's not useless, but it doesn't have the full spectrum of essential amino acids required in sufficient quantity for the body to synthesize protein. When you eat protein, the digestive system breaks it down into amino acids and uses them to produce body proteins. The body requires 9 amino acids from your food. Whey Protein is one of the best. I see "pea protein" is a thing now and readily available.
  21. I just sent a reply - happy shopping. I don't think you'll find a better product or deal.
  22. Just to be precise, the one you are using is WPI - Whey Protein Isolate. 90% protein. 30 grams serving x 90% = 27 g protein.
  23. You need to find out what the source of the Whey Protein is. Who manufactured it (after the cows provided the milk LOL). Most brands won't give their source. The one I mentioned above was produced by ALS Labs in the USA. They have a Thailand subsidiary too. That makes it more reputable than any of the fancy name brands in pretty containers.
  24. There are many unflavoured Whey products available on Lazada. It's all the same, just find the best price. I can't understand your problem as I've been able to purchase pure Whey protein since I arrived here in 2005. I only use the pure product.
  25. I didn't want to spam a particular brand as I have no commercial interest in this. After I wrote that reply, I ended up buying some pure Whey Protein Concentrate (WPC) from Lazada myself as my regular supplier closed up shop during Covid. I paid 625 baht per 907 grams of Whey protein concentrate. The source is ALS Labs in the USA. The Lazada resellers buy it in the 25kg sack. If you want to be ripped off by paying exorbitant prices for name brands, with fancy containers, that's up to you, but I only buy pure Whey Protein Isolate or concentrate directly from the producers. Normally the bulk product is produced in the USA or NZ. What I buy is what the name brands use to make up their fancy concoctions (adding flavour and sweetener) and charge double or triple. I used to buy 25kg sacks of pure WPC or WPI about 12 -15 years ago and split it with friends, but now there are suppliers on Lazada who do it for us, and sell it by the kilo (well actually 2lb = 907 grams). It's better than having to buy a 25kg sack. The 2 types: 1. Whey protein concentrate (WPC) - 80% protein by weight 2. Whey protein isolate (WPI) - 90% protein by weight. I have no particular preference other than buying the one that provides the most protein for my baht, which today was WPC. If lactose is a problem, then the WPI option is better. What you should do is calculate the protein content when you're choosing your supplier. In my case, 625 baht for 907 grams of WPC, at 80% protein = 725 grams of protein. 625 baht/725 grams = 0.86 baht per gram of protein. Now I can calculate that for each 30g meal of protein I'm paying 25 baht. (This calculation ignores shipping cost, which is 47 baht for 1 pack, or 53 baht for 2 packs). My goal is to consume a minimum of 100 grams of protein per day (my BW is 100kg) from all sources so I just use the whey to supplement if I haven't eaten enough protein on any particular day. I'm in the gym most days and do a lot of cardio in addition to resistance training. I hope that was helpful.
