The President would give up power so long as everyone would fawn over him. Foreign leaders know the way to control the President is through flattery, even totally fake and transparent flattery. Putin would be suspicious of flattery, where the President is so badly in need of it, he would even accept that Elon Musk's son wiping boogers on the Resolute Desk is an offering to a deity.

Even the Atlanta Fed changed its 1st Q GDP forecast from +2.3% when Biden was still in office to -1.3% since Smoot and Hawley seem to have taken over. Other things that have changed since November are new BRIC members and talk of using the yuan as a reserve currency, and perhaps even more significant is alienating allies. The US needs foreign capital to fund upwards of 30% of its Treasury issuance, and alienating allies does not help. Folks might also remember that back during Campaign #1, the candidate said he would consider defaulting on foreign owned US Treasuries. I suspect nations are thinking about that right now. The guy is also both bizarre and capricious when it comes to policy. The tariffs are moronic and will harm the US (unless you think producing factories to replace tariffed goods can be built in an afternoon). Also, the rule of law has been a mainstay of the attractiveness of US capital markets. $billions can easily move in and out of the US faster and easier than any other market in the world. Now nobody can rule out the possibility POTUS will EO some rule that prevents capital from leaving. He's certainly stupid enough, and this time he lacks the guardrails he had in 1.0 in the form of rational staff and Cabinet members. A Recession and a stock market decline are guaranteed for 2025, and that only if the US is lucky. A Depression and a stock market crash are now on the table. The clown who bankrupted even businesses where fools line up to give you their money (casinos) has been a business failure his entire life, save for two things: a massive inheritance and co-signed loans from daddy, and the fantasy creation of Mark Burnett, who handed his creation his first positive tax returns of his life. POTUS will do for the US what he did in his private life before his Game Show hosting duties, and now there's no daddy to bail him out.

Next time maybe Zelenskyy will borrow a suit from Elon, since Elon doesn't seem to wear any he owns, even in the Oval Office. Zelenskyy might also bring along a kid to wipe boogers on the Resolute Desk, too, as that seems to be a MAGA tribute. The non-nuke members of Europe have every incentive to develop and deploy their own nukes, and that includes even small nations like Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. Right now guaranteed Germany, the Netherlands, Finland, Sweden, Denmark and Norway are thinking about building nukes. Japan has every reason---as well as current capability---to build nukes. South Korea can see how quickly an ally can be betrayed in favor of a real dictator, so absolutely South Korea has very good reason to build its own nukes. The more nukes their are in more hands, the greater the likelihood they get used. When one gets used, a second follows....then a third....then....kiss your backside goodbye, if not from the blast or radiation, then from nuclear winter. This, among other terrible things, is what MAGA has brought us. The President accused Zelenskyy of trying to start WWIII. Freedom-loving people have been standing against that, just as NATO did during the Cold War. "America First" is a policy based in idiocy and willful ignorance. The US has been aiding Ukraine against the horrors of Putin's invasion both because it is the right thing to do, and also because it directly serves America's interests. NATO has been the bedrock of security for 80 years, as well as what enabled the incredible economic prosperity enjoyed by the US and Europe after the end of WWII. The current Administration lacks the brains to understand all of this, and its idiotic policies will threaten allied nations if Putin is allowed to continue his aggression into the Baltics, Poland and soon enough Romania and Bulgaria, and it will also put an end to the prosperity that has benefited so many. Also, as Europe and the US split, one also must wonder how the US is going to fund its ever-growing deficits, as much has been funded by allied nations. This Administration has given both Putin and Xi a green light to do whatever they please in their now doled out sphere of influence. Russia will use that to go after more territory. China will know it is free to take Taiwan at its leisure, and it also is working to expand the BRICS, which will threaten US economic prosperity and the dollar. If our allies and China stop funding the deficit, that is another threat to US prosperity.

If funding the deficit by buying Treasuries is (self-deleted) on America, that is a fetish Americans should be happy to have. Maybe the Fed is going to have to keep the printers running 24/7, which will just juice the inflation the tariffs will bring. Even "owning the libs" is going to require Weimar Germany wheelbarrows full of lucre.
