  1. Second from right seems to be doing a passable impression of L/Cpl Jones. Tall bloke in the front rank could well be asking "Oh dear, are you sure that is wise sir? Someone might point out that there is little point painting your face with camouflage paint if your hands stand out a glaring white!
  2. 1.) The cameras will have to be switched off "for maintenance". 2.) Episode 2 could be: " The General and Little Fatty wonder why their socks have been confiscated, but the Fugitive's remain."
  3. Next weekend there is an election. Essentially the idea of an election is for the voters to make a choice based on their perception of the available parties present policies and positions, and their evaluation of their potential future performance. All you, and others, seem to be able to do is hark back to your perception of the past, and not even the particularly recent past. It is 17 years since the coup which ousted Thaksin, and it is frankly by no means certain that he had control of either print or broadcast media then!
  4. Well they did "rush" to the mall to secure it! I have never seen them "rush" for anything, but B100,000 in cash is, I suppose, an incentive to break out into a bit of a sweat!
  5. How do you fit a rice cooker to a motorcycle?
  6. The ones who will make the running are the ones (the very large number) who are excluded from those "circles".
  7. Three factors come into play. The resolve, quality and quantity of troops and police they can deploy - conscription, corruption (particularly within the police), poor equipment, lack of mobility especially "up country garrisons", level of training and leadership. The scale, resolve, duration and persistence of protests - in particular the almost complete redundancy of the traditional tool of controlling print and broadcast media. International opinion and any reaction - with the very large quantities of money and assets held abroad (in the West, who wants to park money or own property in China or Russia?) the "ruling elite" are very vulnerable to sanctions.
  8. 61% of a 59% turnout. Campaigning for a no vote was not allowed, and in less than "reliable areas" it was made as difficult as possible to cast a vote.
  9. If you look closely at the rules governing creating and starting new political parties, tucked away deep in the 2017 constitution, you will see that the ultimate arbiter as to whether a party an be formed or not is the Electoral Commission. Not exactly a shining beacon of political impartiality! If the establishment dissolve these two parties it is very likely to end up being resolved on the streets. The Thai Army need to get cracking welding bedsteads to their new Strikers!
  10. Well of course he does, after all the reds set fire to his bus stop! Anyway, voting matters not one jot to him, if anything has become clear over the last few years it is the utter contempt he has for democracy and the electorates expressed decision!
  11. Foreigner marries Thai woman. Builds dream home. She takes him for all his cash. Now happily siting on the floor at Mamas house somewhere, eating, drinking and gambling her way through the profits.
  12. Maybe, but no doubt there are Farangs who enthuse about Myanmar's brand of autocratic military fascism, in much the same way as you shill for Thailand's brand!
  13. Well yes, unity in that only one bunch can run things, and that is the one he heads up. Reconciliation, well, you either reconcile yourself to it or shut up.
  14. The whole point of handcuffing is to prevent the detained individual from continuing to resist. If he wishes to continue to thrash around, lying face down with hands cuffed behind his back, so what?
  15. If we qualify your your premise with the not unreasonable suggestion that the far most likely source of an " elected head of state" within the UK would be a former Prime Minister; and then apply the test of likelihood of using the position to bolster their own affairs, one name over the last 4 decades springs to mind as the most likely candidate to pass that test, and most likely to occupy the position without doing so - one Margaret Hilda Thatcher!
  16. Well expecting/taking informal renumeration from Visa applicants is frowned upon, and perhaps carries with it both the opportunity to work "on one's own account" and the risk of disciplinary action if you do so and fail to enter said renumeration into the informal yet no doubt highly effective accounting and share out system. Splitting the agents fees is much neater all round.
  17. This academic chappy - is he the Professor of Stating the Bleeding Obvious?
  18. Ah, good old BBC. Never really got over Blair never quite making President did they? Splendid timing - 3 days before the Coronation!
  19. I think you are rather making the same point as me. For both the electorate and the contestants, farangs, their likes, dislikes and aspirations are simply irrelevant.
  20. Does either, or in fact any party have any farang policies?
  21. Only when the initial results are considered. By the time the votes have been recounted, adjudicated, interpreted, reallocated, new party lists rules applied, the courts and Electoral Commission had their say, and of course the Senate weighed in, we will discover, just as last time, that a grateful nation has entrusted Prayut with another four years in post! That may of course take a couple of months, but don't worry, in the meantime he remains as caretaker PM.
  22. He has decided not to "take the stand", (he has popped " home" - to Aberdeen apparently!) Which may have implications for the jury's decision. That's how trials work.
