They are the totally owned tool of the established powers that be. Control of the EC is central to "project Prayut". -
On the outskirts of the village I live in is a crossroads. Every day at 6am people gather there, hoping to be hired for the day for field labour or construction work. The gang masters pick their labourers, pack them into the back of the pickups and off they go to the work sites, maybe an hour's ride away. They return around 6pm, and are paid off - 300 Baht for 12 hours work. This scene plays out at countless other meeting points throughout North and Northeast Thailand. Thailand is not doing well in "life quality" for a very substantial number of people. They live hand to mouth, day to day, in an essentially feudal society. Nothing has changed for them in the last ten years. They will cast their vote in the next couple of weeks. They will probably elect a populist party which has promised to improve their lot. Possibly a progressive one, with the same aims, perhaps the two will work together. There will be a hiatus for a few weeks, after the inevitable manipulation, interpretations, EC and court challenges, the government which emerges will probably bear no resemblance to what was probably voted for. If it does then the threat of a military coup will emerge once it takes office. One day these people will become an angry mob... It is inevitable.

I am very sorry. -
I would have thought that there was no shortage of organisations in Thailand that exist to further the (often intrinsically linked) social, financial and political ambitions of their members!

Is there another Big C relatively nearby? Here (Chiang Rai) they recently opened another brand new Big C near the airport. Whilst the old Big C remains, it is across the he road from the relatively new Central Plaza. Many of the downstairs shop units have gone - either to the new Big C or across the road. The rather tatty food concessions are a ghost town (again many traders have moved) and the multiplex cinema has closed. The glory days of the "old Big C" were ten years ago, when it was the only place in town. Now it faces competition from newer stores, plus of course several Mini Big C and Lotus.

Gunfight erupts during wedding, 13-year-old boy injured in crossfire

Maybe "home made" but that shotgun/pistol seems relatively professionally produced. The pistol grip reveals perhaps that it is a bit more than something knocked up in a backyard workshop. -
There is nothing wrong with holding a conservative opinion, be you Thai or foreigner. I myself am probably (in terms of the UK political spectrum) regarded as fairly conservative ( Tory?); although I understand that my views probably do not fit other, particularly American definitions of "conservative". I certainly wouldn't regard "Move Forward" as socialist. What is wrong is believing that conservatism is somehow justified in retaining power even if they lose the election; and using that belief to justify all the cheating, faux use of constitutional "agencies" and powers, and ultimately the threat of armed intervention to achieve retaining power. I expect the combination of Pheu Thai and the progressive movement to win a convincing majority. I expect that win to be overturned by the "establishment". What then happens will direct the future path of Thailand for a generation. Much has changed, over the last ten years. Younger people are more connected, organised and vocal using the medium of their choice,( social media) which is neither controlled nor understood by the "establishment" - nor, dare I say it, by many of us! The single most unifying force in this society, the one which virtually all had in common, most respected, and which was arguably cynically manipulated by "the establishment" has quite simply gone, and has not been replaced. Two very big differences this time round. The "Hun Lakhon Lek puppet theatre" beloved of @zzaa09 may continue to play, but increasingly to empty houses.

What, it cannot be, the Supreme Court selection process tainted by political shenanigans, surely it cannot be so! I mean, I simply cannot bring myself to imagine how the ethical standards adhered to by this fellow, after all he is a lawyer, could be compromised in such a way as to lead to him obscuring the truth!

As I understand it ( and bear in mind I am a simple soldier, and my webbed feet brethren can confirmor deny this), the critical thing about a submarines propulsion system is silence whilst submerged, so that lantern jawed Jack Hawkins lookalikes cannot track it whilst submerged. Now submarines use two methods of propulsion whilst submerged - electric motors which are silent, but depend on the efficacy of the diesel engines used on the surface to charge the batteries, and the diesel engines running on "snorkels". So the critical question is: will the Chinese knock offs of the German engines be as good as charging the batteries, and will the Singapore/Malacca Straits listening apparatus be able to hear them snorkeling as they trundle down the Gulf of Thailand en route to sowing awe amongst their neighbours?
