  1. Many things can be said about our bold gendarmes, but co-operating with politicians - in particular the current crop, who are in power for the next 4 days, is almost certainly not one of them. If they start f.ing around with airports, railways and other transport infrastructure the effects become immense, the potential for deaths, and we're perhaps talking a lot of deaths, becomes considerable. Imagine if their stunts cause an aircraft to crash on take off or landing, or a train to derail? They may fancy themselves as a posh " Michelle of the Resistance", but in reality they are rather dangerous people, whose whole campaign is based on breaking the law.
  2. And the lean mean steely eyed might have been but weren't veterans of combat. Don't forget the lean mean steely eyed might have been but weren't veterans of combat. We must respect the lean mean steely eyed might have been but weren't veterans of combat; their contribution to making the country what it is now is incalculable!
  3. Well if you are shark fishing and your electric boat springs a leak, I suppose...
  4. I have dipped in and out of watching her various media/talk show appearances for the last four years. I think that it is rather than she strongly dislikes quite a lot of the people "established" in politics. That may rather resonate with many beyond the democratic camp. Her antipathy for "establishment politics" and attendant public support may make it difficult for "ultra establishment" organisations ( yes I am rather thinking of the Supreme Court) and the wrecking ball elements in Congress to "put the boot in" and may result in some sensible meaningful reforms. Just an idea - one term may suffice for a "reset"?
  5. Well I watched the video, purely in the interests of research you understand! Chinatown got about 5 seconds in the opening shots so I doubt that it will get that much of a surge - interesting that the 7/11 sign was changed to a yellow star on a red background! She is a very pretty girl, although personally I preferred the image flogging mobile phones outside 7/11 (oh those boots!). As a rapper - well there was no f'ing and blinding, gang signs or drive by shootings, and she doesn't appear to have a "bitch" so I didn't rate it on that score. Also I understood every word! A pleasant video, easy on the eye and carried a jolly tune. Good for watching/listening with a cup of tea in the morning sunshine on my verandah. I doubt it will add the millions to the tourist numbers though!
  6. How do you explain to the stupid stubborn old fool that when you screw up as cataclysmically as that then there can be no second chance?
  7. Umh, chaps, we're already halfway through 2024, and not really any sign yet!
  8. Presumably all three posts, so critical to the governance of the EU will be subject to the confirmation of the EU electorate? I am a silly billy sometimes!
  9. The road into Chiang Rai from where I live runs along the top of the levée, in fact there are parallel roads on both sides of the river. Both have fairly stringent weight restrictions. It forms a shortcut for traffic from Phaya Mengrai and beyond heading up towards Mae Sai. The weight restrictions are completely ignored. The roads are regularly resurfaced (every couple of years) only to be smashed up by overladen trucks traveling at speed. They deployed some sort of mat gadget to weigh trucks - chaos, dozens of trucks trying to turn around in the road. Only did so a couple of times. Overloading, speeding and reckless driving by these trucks is endemic. Add the restricted visibility from those lateral curtains, impenetrably tinted windows and legions of Michelin Men bolted on the front and they are lethal.
  10. I didn't see the C4 programme. There seems to be considerable speculation that "Andrew Parker" was an actor.
  11. I'm afraid that I don't really get the Diogenes reference, all I know is that he was the originator of the cynic movement (and I am quite cynical) and that he came from Corinth. I have been to Corinth - sailed through the Corinth Canal on a trip from Malta to Athens. Quite amazing. Stopped in a little place called Navpaxos, and I went ashore to buy provisions for the boat (crew of 12). In the only shop, speaking no Greek I launched into an extravagent and elaborate mime, to order the food needed. After some twenty minutes the young lady who was behind the counter took pity on me, and announced that she was from Melbourne in Australia, and was back staying with her grandparents who owned the shop. I felt a complete fool!
  12. Some might consider it a realistic assessment of a campaign which has underpinned his political beliefs - right back to the whole "Obama birth certificate saga" - but you stick with a fictional mental health condition if it makes you feel better! Personally I think the man is an utter racist.
  13. You omitted: collect together as many fascists and wannabe cops as you can, ( there are lots of "very good people" out there" and he is in contact with the chaps who know where to find them) issue them with paramilitary green fatigue uniforms, and send them out to round up brown people and put them in concentration camps.
  14. I'm sure that there is software out there that can count the number of seconds for which he was bumping his gums. Divide it, let us say by 20 (3 lies a minute is credible) and there you have a working answer. As far as lies are concerned the starter for ten is: "I did not have sex with that porn star!" Kicks even Bill Clinton's "I did not have sex with that woman" into the long grass!
  15. There are several videos going the rounds of him cheating - don't believe them of course, obvious deep state fake news!
  16. Norway has a long, vulnerable and difficult to defend border with Russia. Putin's aggressive expansionism will be a very real concern. The main pillar of their defence is the NATO alliance, an alliance which Trump has made it clear he intends to dismantle, or at least hamstring. So Trump and his campaign matters to a Norwegian, as it does to most Europeans. The probable rapid descent of the USA into an autocratic isolationist state which cannot be relied upon as an ally will mean a lot of things will have to be rethought. That is why this campaign matters to many countries and people outside the USA. Now Americans may (will) argue that their European allies have accepted the American defence umbrella, a defensive umbrella which has, for the last 75 years underpinned defence of Europe. But remember, Europe has played a part by contributing, troops, blood and treasure, and (at times) costly political support to American foreign policy throughout that period. Trump will radically change that American foreign policy, Americas allies will have to reposition themselves, and may themselves have to move away from America, because they simply do not know what it (America)will do. If you lose your European allies, how, who, is going to fuel, victual, repair and base your vast air and naval forces?
  17. The debate, given Trumps Modus Operandi, (a barrage of bellowed lies) and his performance, was Biden's to win. He lost it. The election is the Democrats' to win, and it is looking increasingly likely with Biden as their candidate, that they will lose it. The consequences would be disastrous for the United States, and quite possibly end democracy in the country. The consequences for the rest of the world will be troubling. However did a mature reasonably sophisticated party manage to end up with Biden as their candidate? 4 months out and an utter, total, mess!
  18. Now there is a thought, A Hollywood dream boy versus a wannabe New York mob boss!
  19. I am not an American. I will leave it to others to decide if I am "decent". Lewinsky was not a prostitute. The whole stained dress and denial of having sex was tacky and unconvincing, but: Clinton did not "pay her off" using money donated for his election campaign. Neither did he comprehensively " cook the books" and lie about having done so. 34 times!
  20. Actually,on reflection, maybe I have an idea. Was your application for a job at a Catholic School turned down? The interview panel is normally headed by the priest whose parish the school is attached to! There is a lot of criticism of the Thai educational system on this forum. A lot of it is absolutely justified, the post commenting on the classroom arrangements in the OP photograph for example. However quite a lot of it, I suspect, is driven by those who thought it would be easy to walk into a job, on the strength of a white face and and being an English speaker. That may once have been the case perhaps 25 years (or more) ago, and it was a backpacker's staple, and an easy way to get a visa. It is not, certainly in any half decent school, the case anymore. You can expect a fairly rigorous interview, will probably be required to teach a competent demonstration lesson with lesson plans and worksheets, and also to have any credentials you submit checked. Before I retired I was on several occasions asked to serve on these panels at the school I taught at. It was a private Roman Catholic School, albeit with a wide range of discounts and scholarships available for Catholic pupils, especially hill tribe children who boarded. It was quite a good school, fairly popular in the City, although not particularly wealthy. Each panel looked at half a dozen applicants. The panel included the Parish Priest (English speaker who had studied in the USA), senior nun who had studied in France and 3 or 4 senior teachers. They particularly wanted me to review, and interpret for them, the qualifications presented. Some were very vague and unverifiable - claims of degrees in particular. They were easily verified by emailing the registrar's office of the University - twice the answer came back that they had no record of the individual concerned. Of course it is entirely possible, probable indeed, that you are not one of those. There are however quite a number of them around. A surprising number in fact.
  21. I'm not sure where Priests come into it?
