Legal Amphur marriage is about the money it means that the wife can inherit automatically, in many cases a non legal wife cannot inherit a survivors pension from your pension fund. If you haven't made a will all your property and money will go to your nearest relative not your Thai wife she will have no claim on your 'estate' and be left destitute on your death unless she has a good job.
