If a person shouts to another "Go on then , Get you knife out then" , its quite easy to work out that someone was threatening to use a knife .

Some people were yelling "racist " at him in a hostile way and threatening him with a knife .

So, he did the salute to antagonize the people who were yelling abuse at him

Personally I would also still want to spend some time travelling the world to see where I would finally want to stay. Likely that I would travel for the rest of my days deciding. 

The days of Westerners gallivanting around the World , looking for somewhere to stay have long gone , these days you have to meet the requirements , Age for a retirement visa or income/investment for any other visa , apart from that Cambodia and Panama are the only available options
