Cant beat Chiang Mai! Mountains, markets, people, food, safety, cheap, swimming pools, ladies, weather... The only thing is the nightlife could be better but is OK.
People is always complaining... If you dont like back home mate!
If you mean "nightlife" as in girly bars, that would be really depressing. If you mean really good clubs, yes it could do with some better ones. There is one pretty good team working on creating a PROPER nightclub. They ran a few events which brought Thai and Farang together that actually wanted to DANCE and party, not just stand about posing and awkwardly bopping..and then getting drunk and doing some weird gyrating stuff that is about as sexy as an epileptic fit. Was a breath of fresh air to see people out because they like to dance and enjoy music for a change.
Chiang Mai needs more dancing girls
Again, im guessing this pertains to pattaya style clubs though, which i think would be really sad to see in Chiang Mai. ..and not because im a woman, but because it just wouldnt be the same place anymore..which generally is known for culture, creativity, and arts. THIS is the side i would love to see continue in Chiang Mai. A creative city attracting interesting people, and showcasing Thailands artistic talents..of which there are many. In any case, in all honestly "dancing girls" would pertain to the ability to dance, would it not? Walking around a pole looking bored isnt dancing...
But seriously, one thing I am beginning to greatly dislike is the increasing traffic with accompanying pollution that is clogging the limited roadways for both Thais and foreigners.
Me too

I agree with most of your comments, i love the fact that i can get on a motorbike and ride up to Pai for a day, or go round Samoeng, Chang Dao, or MHS, or a visa run up Mae Sai and back. ..so many places! Its beautiful and scenic..when they arent burning! As for Chiang Mai itself, it feels fairly cosmopolitan. For me though, its the vibe of being creative and artistic. For everyday living its as cheap as i want it to be, and there is much available if i want to splurge. I am considering moving out a little out of the city though, because of how congested it is getting.
Ive also lived in many places and countries, so, even though other places do have some things which are much better, it is also a much more expensive lifestyle. Here i can have a balance of a pleasant life, with lovely people around me, and at a cost where i can sustain a fairly comfortable lifestyle without working myself to the bone.

Just would like some clarification on Betagen milk products.
The one i buy usually is 0% fat. But i also see 0% fat plus 2% sugar on the shelves.
The 0% tastes very sweet as is, so if no sugar, what is making it so sweet?
Ive tried reading the thai ingredients on the back, but its pretty small and some of the terminology im just not sure of, so tbh i just gave up and decided to ask on here.
Its a probiotic and very low in fat, right? Is there anything hidden or pretty good stuff?
Kick starting a healthy eating plan again (every so often i lapse into eating more snacks and carbs than i should!), and that means being more aware of what im putting into my body. Thanks!

Yes, would love to see it rain. However, sods law as it is, this evening will be my first "dressy uppy" evening in a very long while. Doin ma hair n nails n everythin! ...and it will probably chuck down!!!
Erm, but keeping it back on the positive track..it is good to be going off to a fancy pants night out- 1

^ it might do. Depends on how he looks with it off
Bad me, bad me.
..you could always get some plastic bags up with Brad Pitts face on the front ..or someone korean for the thai girls, Bi Rain maybe? No idea what im rambling about now, just enjoying joining in with this rather bemusing totally random topic.

To get back on topic...today is good because i had an ice coffee down wawee ratchadamnoen way (although its a shocker whats going on with the road works there right now!), and some fairly nice ice candy was to be seen walking by (of the male variety!). Haha.

Best thing about today was that i got a 400 baht traffic ticket for a left turn on red. The upside is that:
1. I was wearing my helmet so no additional fine
2. I have a motorbike license so no additional fine
3. It is the first ticket I got since I arrived.
4. I learned that it is illegal to make a left on red light in Thailand. I never knew that before. Older and wiser.
Ohh dont want to go off topic too much but go to rene123's thread here!:http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/615623-i-paid-my-narawat-bridge-police-tax-today/ I bet it was Narawat Bridge, right?! Left turn on red seems to be ok everywhere else. (Although i will stand corrected if wrong). Just the narawat bridge left (and of course any others that are marked..but i dont know of any other place that is ISNT ok to turn left on!).

Thai people have a higher degree of awareness than most foreigners.
I've seen a ghost but they don't scare me anymore. How can a non-physical being hurt one?
If they have a highly evolved sixth sense, why is it if in other countries its suddenly tuned off? There are no ghosts outside of Thailand? Or its only a home internal GPS ghost detector thing going on?
My ex was a grown man, ten years older than me, with a respectful fear of thai ghosts..i found it utterly stupefying that an intelligent grown man would believe in the nonsense thai fables .
I honestly believe, that just because we cant see something, doesnt mean it isnt there. I am VERY open to the concept of various energies and being sensitive to them. I DONT however believe in some freaky brain eating monster living down by a banana tree..or other such ridiculous stories.
Believing in that stuff has nothing to do with being tuned into energies, it has to do with growing up being told stories of this ghost and that ghost...as if they are fact. ..Same brain-washing as say bible stories. Believed, not "sensed".

This evening i finally plucked up the courage to go see Dr.Rat the ENT about my nose problem following the terrible bike accident i had just over a year ago.
Hes a lovely man, seems very informed, and....if is all he seems to be...he will be scheduling me in to fix my nose after Songkran. It will be my THIRD nose surgery to try correct the damage done. Scared as hell, but happy to seemingly be in good hands. (Thanks to personal recommendations on Thaivisa. very grateful )- 1

Best thing - sorting out some old clothes for the Mae Hon Son Ban Mae Surin refugee camp appeal which im going to hand into Hillside 4, as they (and other places) are sorting out donation deliveries. BUT, as im not allowed to "solicitate" on the forum, all i can suggest is using google to find out where to hand in any old clothes (or donations), if you are so inclined. There are several places!

My comment brought it down. Sorry all hope to move on. Looking forward to hearing interesting reports on the show.

WOW.. a bike show..where you can actually see the BIKES..rather than a gazillion gormless girls draped over them! *in shock!!!*
why would you assume the women are gormless, because they are attractive?
i would have thought you were not in favor of sweeping generalizations about women
Rightly so candypants. Im just going on my experience of bike shows, which granted hasnt been a lot yet. I have always been courteous to the girls, sometimes receiving nice behavior back, or having the weigh me up look or a nose tossed in the air. I havent had any indepth conversations with them, so maybe they indeed not gormless and shame on me! However, when i have asked simple questions, even if in Thai, i quite often have received blank looks or responses along the lines of "dont know" "not sure" or *giggIe*...

Er why you guys launching on robblok? It was me that was bangin on about wanting to see hot guys instead of trolley dollys

^ I think will take me another three years to accumulate enough Rimping points to buy anything even vaguely significant!!!!
oops..off topic. Um... lets see.. Um.. actually i have nothing significant to say except that hopefully due to today's heat, it might rain this evening, and if it does, im gonna be extremely happy. -
Fair enough, in Thailand I tend to get my information from more reliable sources than the person trying to sell me the bike, but each to his own.
Like the lady you are drooling over
And of course you double check what they said never trust a seller for all your information but i thought that was obvious.
Oh dear, Mr Puritanical has invaded the forum .
So instead of a gorgeous girl you'd rather have a drab sales person (most of which know nothing about the bike whether they are gorgeous or not) give you a load of BS and you will be sure to check it out later to make sure it's true
Like they say in Thailand "up to you". Rather than preaching on here maybe you could picket the show, educate these Thai's that their political incorrectness can only lead down the path of damnation
Nooo...make it a sexy MALE salesperson

Aw cmon guys, a wee bit of male eye candy would be nice for us girls too SOme suggestion:

In the malls scorecard. I see a lot of girls dressing sexy. Maybe they dress up to go to the mall though?
-
I dont complain, i end up getting my photo with them quite often. I just find it a bit dumb!
ANyway, back to bikes! Wish i was heading down to bkk!Edit: but, tbh, would be nice if they balanced it out a bit and some fit guys were there too! Unfortunately thats just now how it works *sigh*! Then you guys can be pointing out to you gfs who the hottest guy is too

Nice link! Some great looking bikes. Still love the simple d-tracker even if not the best bike there, very nice bike. SHame about the space cadets tho
Edit: i wonder how guys would handle it if every trade show (even if a trade show geared for women) had dumb beefcake guys spawled all over the things they(or their wives) want to look at lol. I would love to go up to one of the girls one day and say "so tell me about the bike you are sitting on..how many cc does it have? " "huh..c what?"

Got up, went to the gym, got cleaned up, had an early quick coffee out, went home, got to work on some things, then later went out and had dinner, returned home, finished up some things, then kicked back with a movie and a drink.
...almost much the same as my life before Thailand. EXCEPT.. i can afford to treat myself out, such as the quiet coffee on my own... EVERY day if i like.. and i can do it without it costing the earth..or seeing too many bad attitudes and grumpy faces, or guys thinking that just because you give them a smile its a green light for being pestered...or weather so chilly or unpredictable that it makes me want to crawl back into bed... or countless junk mail and post stating i owe exorbitant amounts for this tax or that tax or this bill or that bill .... or random phonecalls on my telephone line asking me if id like cheaper gas bills even if i dont have gas........or working out if i can actually afford a night out because i know it would require a remortgage in order to have a decent one.... et cetera et ad finitem!

WHO THE EFF IS THE BLETHER?A needy, attention seeking poster with a limp sense of humour (IMHO).
Well he is Scottish after all.
Thus all Scottish people are needy and attention seeking..???? Im off topic, sorry, but that comment was just a bit er...???????

um..jaideeguy, in Chiang Mai city i often see girls wearing what often looks like stuff for clubbing, but in the daytime. Heels they can hardly walk in, and shorts so short that if they had a butt their cheeks would be hanging out! Where are you actually walking about? Outside the city is obviously going to be more conservative. I remember a male friend saying to me recently that he thinks the girls shouldnt try so hard, because showing so much skin will always attract attention, but showing just a bit and being sexy with it is more of a fine art. (..but in reality that statement can easily apply to all nationalities of course, not just Thai!)
