  1. I think the former is quite old, while the later is a more recent phenomenon, as is perhaps changing one's legal name here, which seems to happen more frequently than in the west?

    -

Changing your name changes your luck, usually subject to advice of a respected monk/fortune teller.

Changing the surname is of course the most radical move, the legal first name a bit less so, while nicknames can be changed as frequently as some farang change their underwear.

Psst.. Khi Nok is an insult Thai's use to describe western backpackers

Believe me I'm quite familiar with the term, but have no idea why you thought that particular piece of information relevant here?

And by the way nothing to do with backpackers specifically, just means generally worthless, even a rollaboard-weilding retiree can be called this when he runs out of money.

And hearing this is a very clear sign you've been making some very poor choices of who to associate with in Thailand, usually the root of most people's problems here. . .

Ah ok, just you spelled it phonetically keeknock you came across as someone who may not know the meaning, so it was just a heads up?

And yes lots of poor choices and good one aswell though.

  2. One of the more inventive Queuing styles in Thailand!

Very innovative indeed, where was this picture taken? Just curious!

Ingenious, but not before long as the queue of shoes becomes more dense it soon turns into a rabble of footwear vying for the first position as is normal in Asia?

  4. It's not unusual for a reservation system to block out your card details after a payment has been made, it's not a case of we don't trust our employees more of a case of don't give anyone the chance? Saying this though it's not really a great idea to send your card details via email either, more safe to supply over the phone or if they can send an attached form to fill out which is password protected.

  5. Open tickets are good and useful if not sure of your return date just make the changes via a local agent and you get a sticker to put on your ticket with new date. Otherwise the cheaper option would be to book a non changable outbound with changeable inbound ticket so give them a date you intend to return and then if you want to change then you can do at local agent and pay a fee, you would need to pay the fee each time you change though and a limit on stay.

Most 12 month tickets would have an option in the conditions to change the inbound at a fee I would say whichever airline?

I liked your comment regards middle east airlines, made me laugh and it's a concern sure regardless of how much oil they are sat on, backward attitude if they can give a 4 year sentence to a poor guy who has a micro crumb of marijuana on the insole of his shoe ?

  6. Have you looked at the locker on Khaosan it's not got any facilities and is in fact a locker to store luggage but you can sleep in them too as there is a latch on the inside of the locker door. I don't believe they have a policy which doesn't allow prostitues to also stay over, it's only 80 baht a night.

(tip) Bring your own bottle of water as because officially it's a locker to store luggage this is not provided for guests.

  7. Ubonoz is right Easter hols and Songkran, also a lot of late bookings for March due to annual leave holiday entitlement being used up before new tax year starts will be a reason for higher fares.

have you looked on: www.skyscanner.net can use the whole month search, if travelling either side of the Easter hols then can still get a fare on decent connections of around £550 from Manchester.

  8. Further note:

ORIGINAL PASSPORT: Thailand is an exception to the main guidance given on our primary website. It is not advised to be without your original passport in Thailand and we recognise this. You may therefore submit a clear photocopy of your passport (just the page with your personal details and photograph). Please note that the passport being renewed will be electronically cancelled and is therefore not valid for use as a travel document from the moment you submit your application. On receipt of your new passport, you must physically cancel your old passport by cutting the corners of the photo page and the front and back covers. Failure to do so may leave your replaced passport open to abuse. Alternatively, you should visit the British Embassy in Bangkok to have your replaced passport physically cancelled. Please be aware when transferring your visas the Immigration Bureau may request a letter from the British Embassy.

  9. freebies in Thailand mainly from Asian women and generally give them a bit of baht in the morning to get rid of them, someone has already said that I think but this is how it works.

Picked up many western women for the night who have come over with boyfriend for a long stay jaunt then boyfriend (the rotter) gets the best of them for a few days before deciding number 32 at that massage parlour in nana was pretty good and the does one.

Coals, sand, Newcastle, beaches. op not wrong.

  10. another one that makes me laugh is when talking to someone and they say "I'm so boring", meaning to say I'm so bored :) Yes, dear, you are, goodbye!

Also I found out once: you're boring (whilst wavin' 2 fingers in your face)? can also mean: would you like to go ten pin bowling?

  11. Yes this all sounds very familiar, a mate of mine was found dead by his wife, she found him in the morning. During the previous night she had "visitations" from her then living husband explaining that when he passed on, rather than a normal funeral and letting the authorities know etc, he would prefer to be chopped up into 6 peices placed into plastic bags and then deposited all around the property where no-one could ever find him?

Sounds superstitious I know but we've been living together very well ever since and she's a lovely women, has a big house, toyota vigo hilux etc.,
