It's all about mitigating risks of more virus entering the country. Of course it's a falacy as the virus is already in heavy circulation around Thailand now. However, because they may want to appease a frightened population, or just appeasing appeasing some in the government to do this test on arrival. This will definatley pick up some cases. Along with vetting those who tested positive before they leave (thus infecting passengers on their plane), you build up some measures to reduce numbers. There's also the concern that many PCR tests before departure will be fake - especially from India. So carrying out a test on arrival will give an accurate assesment. I also don't know if Thailand is doing gene sequencing, but the tests on arrivals can also pick up new variations.

BTS launches free rides for points after cancelling monthly deal

Because they are abused. Also the BTS, Underground and busses are all run by different companies in Bangkok. In London they are all run by the state. -
You aren't going to know if the vaccine certificates are genuine though are you ? If you have any experience of India you will know. You can literally go to a doctors office there and get them to print you anything for money. Makes all this a farce - if you are going to rely on the trust of Indians to have genuine vaccines and PCR tests. You can't even get a PCR test in many indian areas. I know so many people getting on flights, just getting doctors to do a fake PCR test. Reason being they don't have the capacity to do a PCR, and a quick official looking letter is easy.

Why can't they all just speak with one voice? I am hearing Sandbox type scenario for Pattaya, others saying no quarantine. No concrete details from anyone. Just farcial. The true extent of covid in Thailand is pretty high, so why obsess with vaccinated tourists so much at the expense of the local population ? What's the obsession with testing a tourists so many times, but not locals ?

Trust me, this is much better than what they were doing originally ... these tests, then another one at 7 days, then another at 14 days. With the high rates of covid in Thailand you could catch covid whilst there and that would be it - hospital quarantine for 14 days and families split. This is much better. Alot of countries have some form of test entry to reduce numbers - with the anxiety in Thailand and South East asian countries this was always going to be expected.

TEST BEFORE DEPARTURE - is great because it means you can ensure the chances of a safe flight are good. TESTING ON ARRIVAL - risky because you don't want to test positive, so it would be vital you isolated for a few days before departure. However, i will accept this test as a trade off for Thailand opening. For me i am glad they have scrapped the tests after this, there was simply no need for them when the infection rate amongst Thai's was pretty high.

Fair to assume underhand that Chinese money is building nearly everything in Thailand, using slave labour. -
UK drops advice against non-urgent travel to 32 destinations

They will find craap in your rented home - be it your sofa, tv, bed, tables, they can take it all. The only things they can't take is things you need for work. Do yourself a favour and get this 'ill play the system' out of your thought process. -

But they will fine you for arriving without a booking (then pass your debt to a debt collection agency), then send you to a quarantine hotel. Better you book a nice hotel yourself, or stay in a third country for 10 days, rather than risk being put in a travellodge. -

Not possible either, as a Brit now once you arrive in Europe you are stamped. Racists wrecked everything for us Brits. -
Mexico, Thailand and more could be removed from red travel list
DonniePeverley replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
The fact that they haven't changed the warning to travel to Thailand, despite countries like Brazil being changed - most likely indicates Thailand is going to remain on the red list. -
Phuket Sandbox arrivals well short of TAT target
DonniePeverley replied to webfact's topic in Phuket News
1 ) Stop the endless testing of VACCINATED tourists. If you are vaccinated, then you can do a test on arrival. If negative then you can be free to enjoy your holiday. DO NOT hover a cloud over them that they will endure more tests. The fact locals struggle to get testing (when covid rates are high in Thailand) is even more a puzzle why tourists should be targetted. 2) STOP the mandatory hospitalisation for vaccinated tourists who test positive. You may not be ill, and could isolate at home - but to drag you to a hospital is simply putting you in a prison to keep you away from society. You cannot come to Thailand under these circumstances for a holiday with a family. How can you bring children under this cloud? Seems to me tourism is needed, but they cannot lock themselves out of the malaise that tourists are somehow the enemy and will bring covid with them. -

Curious as to why Japan keep giving away their Az? Not like they have fully vaccinated their population yet.
