Rishi Sunak considers weakening key green policies
DonniePeverley replied to Social Media's topic in World News
We all want cleaner air. However, leaders must be honest about costs. If you ask people they want cleaner air they of course will say yes. If you tell them they will have to scrap some of their cars, buy newer electric cars - some might say no. If you then go on to tell them that they will then have to pay to drive in certain areas (Ulez, green zones, neighbourhood zones) alot will be annoyed. If you then tell them they will have to get rid of their boilers and then install heat pumps at a cost of thousands most will be pretty annoyed. If you then tell them they will have further curbs on their lives - eg flying and taking holidays. Eventually when you lay it all out - that 100% that originally said yes, will now be down to low single figures. Personally having been in Thailand, and inhaling the disgusting traffic fumes we have here in Bangkok, i do welcome some measures here in Bangkok. It's absolutely horrific. -
Do we really need a week by week commentary on how many chinese tourists have come ? For crying out loud. How about they route at corrupt practises (taxis, etc) and make it a better enviroment for European / Australian / American families to enjoy? But nah .... CHINA. Being in China, they view Thailand as a budget destination. The real love for well up Chinese is to go to Europe for a holiday. By sheer numbers they will get millions of Chinese tourists. However, this in turn turns off well spending foreign visitors from other countries.

I think a major factor to complicate all this - in the west we all tend to use keys. Most tennents tend to change a lock - you can essentially take the same size lock out and replace it with something similar, albeit it a different key. In THailand most condos use a card and a code on the door (for newer condos too). The code aspect leaves you vulnerable to past guests if the landlord doesn't change it, and the card entry system means it's very hard to override it.

Guys quick question. We noticed when we went to look at appartment, the landlord could place his hand on the door sensor (when you put the card), and some numbers would come up and she typed in a code to get the door to open. I didn't like this. Do i have rites to change this number, or would that be wrong ?

Everywhere i go, you can't help but see all these skin laser shops, with the promise of beauty. Anyone had some treatment with these? They have many different lasers, some that reduce wrinkles, some that clear acne, some that brighten your face, etc Now these lasers aren't like many of the lasers in the UK where they remove the top layer of skin (ablative). Instead the lasers here in Thailand are the 'heating up' type, and you return to work pretty much straight away. Anyone with some info, tried out?

I am aware you get the obligatory 'landlord wants to know what job you do' question when you look at a condo. Yet today, i have been asked "what job do you do", "owners wants to know what business you have in the UK", "owner wants to know income", "owner wants to know address in the UK", "owner wants to see this and that" etc I am almost laughed in disbelief. Despite the fact they don't even verify anything and i could say anything, i just find it all rather disgusting and a complete invasion of privacy.. I know the answer - walk away. But i just find it all rather frustrating, after agreeing price and preparing ourselves mentally to take the property on (which has been empty for a long time).

Hello the school in Bangkok my child is looking to start is saying they will start his visa when he arrives and enrolls in the schol. They said my child will get a visa. I am just checking will my child need a visa first before he can study, or as the school is suggesting he commences school and then gets the visa ? I don't want to get in any trouble.

What in the gutter hell is going on with estate agents here in Bangkok? Total waste of my time most of them. You go through their website, look carefully at properties that are listed. You call them up, and it's not available. Not just the odd one, but it is constant. Just a real headache. Just list what you have available. It's a complete nonsensical minefield dealing with agents here. They literally make no sense.

Are you getting confused between 'education visas' for adults, and the one i am looking at for children? We already have him registered with a junior school and have documents and registration certificates. Are you saying my child is going to have to wait up to two weeks to get the actual education visa ?! And also then he has to wait 2 weeks before he can even apply due to running down his exemption stamp ?!?! That's essentially a month. Will he be able to study in that time at the school ?
