How many tests were conducted though?
MOPH website figures, 15-16 January just over 100 tests recorded. Subtract 15th Jan totals from 16th Jan totals gives rise of 118 tests I believe.

End of the month at the latest if the figures are good...
Of course end of the month, it was said by the authorities the wave would be over so it must happen.

800 tests a day on population size???. Thailand is only doing 10000 a day on population of 70 million so Chonburi is accounting for nearly 10% of all tests. Ramp it up to 200k a day and you will soon find I think.

The authorities keep saying this wave of covid transmissions will be over by end of January, yet they keep opening new covid hospital and quarantine facilities. Do they know something that the public don't??

By figures published that I could find , latest only up to 11 Jan, they carried out 10000 tests a day, not necessarily all new people as they have to repeat test people who were infected. Around end of December, beginning January it was 20000 a day so you can see why the reported cases have roughly halved week on week. By comparison, go back to November/December it was barely 1000 a day, sometimes only 500. Would have included those in quarantine too. Don't do widespread testing, don't have covid cases, simple. My personal opinion is infection is just as prevalent as a couple of weeks ago as testing numbers have halved, matched by reported cases halving.

With limited funding why not go for AstraZenicah, cheapest as is supplied at cost I think, or a mix of vaccines as not everyone can have some vaccines due to allergic reaction, especially the Pfizer one. Personally I would have thought a national vaccination program would have been better, more control and maybe less chance of misappropriated funds.

Don't worry, the ministers said wave would be over by end of January.

Samut Sakhon could see a rise in numbers after a decline. This is due to the amount of testing of workers being done there
Sums it up, less testing, lower numbers. Why not up the proactive testing in all provinces?

Disinfectant can still kill the virus!! Think you'll find disinfectant will kill nearly any living organism if given enough exposure to it. I cannot believe they have to make statements of the obvious.

Agree, but they were daft enough to do it an open area, unlike many others who confine it to private condos.

Of course it's going to reduce, reduce testing, reduce figures, same same but different to March/April last year.

"Proactive testing led to 125 positive cases being found in Samut Sakhon (121 foreigners and four Thais)"
But they never say how long the foreigners have been in Thailand. Days, weeks, months? If they are immigrant workers, odds on they have been in Thailand for quite some time and then lock them all in together, covid is going to be rubbing it's hands together, metaphorically speaking. Are they mass/active testing the Thai workforce who work in factories, warehouses etc? So many questions and few answers.

The fat lady hasn't sung yet, as nobody knows how much of a spread fest the New Year's holiday was. Let's see in 1-2 weeks.
Possibly same as April, within 3-4 days of starting restrictions the daily figures plummeted, proudly credited by the government due to their swift actions , defying all logic and pattern of how viruses spread through a population. As you say, we shall see where it stands in a couple of weeks, maybe defying the laws of nature again.

Wow, never have thought that, who'd have thought been out side was safer than inside. Shops all shut UK, pubs, restaurants, schools now and still spreading. Why? Because people keep on popping around their friends for a coffee or night in drinking, not outside, inside.

We should expect another spike due to travel and mixing over New Year. Time lag is usually 1-2 weeks
Here in UK we are just seeing Christmas weekend spike and they are expecting another one in 2-3 weeks from new year holidays, especially in hospital admissions.

Is this true news? My GF's family and her friends who work in that Area and also in Bang Na have said that many at the Tuna factory have tested positive. I would hope that they have combined all of the umbers and they have an idea of how many from each factory have been diagnosed with Covid. The GF said the factories are still in operation, albeit without those in isolation.
It was found in Europe that covid infections in food production factories, abattoirs, etc tended to spread quickly, they think due to the controlled environment temperatures. I've no idea if the tuna canning places are kept at low temperatures or not.

This could really worry the authorities if they rolled it out nationwide. Population testing to see if they've had it would possibly show up any possible misreporting in the past. Wuhan revealed up to 480k infected in the past, discovered by antibody testing, few more than the 59k odd originally reported.

You been near foreigner? No. Been to pub, bar, club? No. Been crowded market. No. But did go to friends condo for food with 12 of us. You have a fever, take some paracetamol and go home and rest.??? Common sense talking as I think some Thai people and farang think that if they do not do any of the above they won't be exposed to covid. Anyone can be exposed to it and the more people you spend time with the greater the risk.

Reported that it normally takes 2 weeks for antibodies to be detectable in the blood after contracting covid. They should emphasise to the public that these home kits are for seeing if you may have had covid previously. Even if it does show you have previously had covid doesn't mean you cannot get it again and the tests are not 100% reliable.

Save face, maybe they hoping for a lower than 365 number tomorrow to add to the 900. Always emphasizing the migrant figures in my opinion is all about trying to make the situation look better than it is.

When are they going to start doing some proactive screening amongst the local Thai population?

Not sure if you have been to the beaches at night when the bars are shut, huge groups of young Thais congregate, drinking, eating, music etc
Someone I know in Thailand, new years eve 10 in a condo, today about 12 having picnic on beach and then back to condo to continue drinking. Think they don't care because first time in April nothing happened and think this time around it's the same. If the government has been dishonest about numbers first time I think it's about to backfire on them big time now unfortunately.

Why can they not disseminate all the stats together instead of piecemeal and by province. It is what it is I guess, Sort of like other countries giving updates by states and such. Moving on as it just gets better and better every day.
I think they get officially reported the day after at the daily covid brief.

I call it a lottery virus, my sister-in-law's husband, 50, healthy, no comorbidities, 11 days from onset of symptoms, game over. Deteriorated rapidly in matter of hours at the end. Never even made it to hospital.
