Perhaps the PM is being influenced by the actions of his role model, President-for-Life Xi of the PRC.

It's bizarre what is now happening in one of the world's largest cities, Shanghai. In lockdown, as part of Xi's Zero Covid policy, the masses are beginning to rumble as many have neither money nor food. The CP is woefully inefficient in trying to address the food needs of tens of millions of locked down subjects. Of course, anyone would be unable to adequately meet the needs as well as corral so many people, except in an authoritarian State. And therein lies the attraction.

A question remains: why is Xi so hellbent on total control of Covid? Does he believe it is even possible, save via keeping China ringfenced and its borders locked for the next five years? Does he have some special knowledge of Covid no one else has? Is it simply his penchant for wanting total control over people whose 'votes' he obviously will never need, plus a kind of delusionary view of how long even the CP and PLA can keep a billion four hundred million Chinese under their bamboo hand? Does Xi think he can keep economic activity at a high enough level to sustain China's growing debt and RE problems under lockdown?

In any event, it seems Xi's actions might be inspiring Thailand's PM to maintain the 'advantages' of Covid fear in a self-appointed and unpopular regime.

As we all know, governments dont give a Sj!t about "their" people as long its not convenient for them. So the answer is......Control.

An interesting note... I was talking to the sister of  Thai lady restaurant owner in East pattaya, she was telling me  about her arrival experience at Bangkok airport having arrived that very afternoon from Belgium, i asked why are  you not staying  the 24 hours in a hotel like all arrivals to Thailand..

She replied  if you 'pay enough'  you dont have to stay !!!

And there is the Thai magic

Jomtien, south end, from around soi 12.
probably on beach rd, so you have chance for some other business on the ground floor, school on upper, with top floor for private and sea view.
if your wife is thai she can also do english courses

having proper accreditation would give you education visa students.
probably now the best time for rock bottom prices, before high season at the end of year. If your wife is already in thailand she should now look for space, allowing renovation or rebuilding for several months.
HH doesnt have beach rd and even beach is washing away by sea current, in large part covered by water at high tide.
Jomtien is much closer to bkk, 2 motorways, public buses and minibuses from all bus stations and speed train coming sometimes in 5 years time.
I dont think that HH would recover for many years, to become competitor to pattaya side.

Excellent. As i read the advices Pattaya is a bit in favour. Thnx for your input.

What Covid has taught us that many schools and education places have gone online.

You can teach anything from anywhere and i believe that is the future for online courses.

    Hua-hin no breeze?Sure they have.

I know both places well and i would suggest you just go visit each place for a few days

and see the difference and what you like.

Both places have good shopping and good golf courses.

I would prefer Hua-hin because it is a little more relaxed and certain things are not in your face but it can be found in both places.

    I will do that. Thnx

Climate-wise I think that Pattaya/Jomtien is much more pleasant than Hua Hin.

Hua Hin has a very low rainfall in comparison and gets very hot and dry (no sea breeze).

Pattaya/Jomtien on the other hand is cooler (due to the sea breeze) and gets more rainfall.

Land and house prices seem to be similar in either city.

Both are about the same distance from Bangkok, although Pattaya is much closer to Swampy International Airport and also has Utapau International Airport nearby.

Both have Central shopping malls (and other shopping malls) so you can get your essential falung goodies.

If you like to play golf the choices are many in the Pattaya region, whilst Hua Hin is rather limited in comparison.

Just a few pro's and con's for you to consider... I'm sure others can find more.

    Sound advice.

Thnx very much. Especially the part about weather.wind/rain would be a big plus for me.

I was pretty sick for 10 days.  Just before I cleared covid with a negative test I ended up with a sinus infection and now have an eye infection above the same impacted sinus.....worse than the nastiest flu I ever had, laid me up in bed for several days, had the breathing gotten worse then I would have taken myself to the hospital.  So you say I should not have tested and then just gone about my business and walked around infecting others, is that your plan.....

You are still not dead. And may be....just may be, all your new infections appeared because your immunity system is weakened due to the vaccins? Could it be? Just a different thought.
