  1. Thanks for that … obviously I’m on a learning curve here … the ‘pink card’ is novel to me. Can I photoshop one? Guess not. My plan is to be in Thailand on a marriage extension next year but with a snowball’s chance of attaining PR status … will the presumably desirable pink card be available to the likes of me?
  2. Thanks Sheryl that’s very helpful … bit surprised that private price is ballpark to the Oz price (circa 90k) but there you go … guess it’s cheaper in the long run than attempting the job myself! I’m a bit hazy about the Thai public/private systems with respect to expats … I’d assumed that as a non-permanent resident I’d have no access to the public system at all. Have I got that right? As I said, I’m still in Oz but would expect to be on a marriage extension next year living full-time in Thailand and non-resident in Oz except for holidays. Can’t ever see myself jumping through the PR hoops.
  3. Thanks for that ‘contribution’. I happen to be lucky enough to live near, and be examined by one of the most respected and credentialled eye surgeons in Australia … she recommends surgery for a cataract detected a year ago and is comfortable for that surgery to wait another 18 months should I choose. With the greatest of respect, your advice is simply bonkers. But again, thank you for taking the time to respond.
  4. Hi and thanks - can I ask if that 50k is your personal and relatively recent experience ?
  5. Thanks can I clarify that you’re an expat in Thailand and in a Thai government queue? If so that’s a novel approach to me.
  6. Thanks, yes indeed. My current consultant (who I have a great deal of confidence in) quoted ‘about’ A$3,500 (B90,000) privately and a wait of less than a month. Naturally, if time was of the essence I’d move quickly regardless of cost but my case is hardly urgent, first detected 12 months ago and not progressing too badly since. Just trying to get a feel for the private Oz/Thai price differential here.
  7. I'm stuck in Australia for a while and on a lengthy (18 months!) public waiting list for cataract surgery - likely i'll have relocated to Thailand before my turn comes up so maybe i'll need to get the job done privately in Thailand. Can see plenty of online teaser ads from Thai clinics stating 'from $x' and 'as low as $y' and the like. More interested to hear from anyone who has had this op done in Thailand recently ... particularly in Bangkok, Changmai or Uttaradit ... and of course what the actual costs were. I'll be paying for everything myself - no insurance since it's obviously pre-existing. Of course if your cataract surgery didn't work out too well and you can't read this ... thanks for trying anyway.
  8. Sloppy reporting again … the other story reports 1,000,000 expected but less this 43 from Japan already here should mean only … err … let’s see … 999,957 now expected. These numbers are important.
  9. They need to make the black balls out of something edible like liquorice (although I’m not fond of the stuff). Include a contraceptive element and arsenic in every 100th ball … about four problems solved at a stroke.
  10. Works fine for me and I’m not a FB user maybe the problem is with your setup. It’s a video of 96 million black plastic balls being dumped into a reservoir so Google 96 million black plastic balls should get you started.
  11. Sure, Big Data and The Deep State are falling over themselves to track this 84 year old staggering around getting barred from shops and failing to buy stuff online. Don’t stretch that imagination too far or overestimate your value as an individual my friend … just like me … it’s likely about $0.20
  12. At age 84 I’d suggest the oft-ignored other option … (d) Do nothing Time will soon resolve the issue.
  13. Can’t understand the support for your very naive comment there. YES there is a possibility that test #2 is positive when test 1 is negative … Test #1 is entirely under the passenger’s control. Maybe fake. Maybe real but wrong (accuracy is <100%). Maybe caught C19 in the 48 or 72 hours prior to boarding. All other passengers on the flight? same caveats apply. Test #2 is presumably administered by the receiving country. They control quality, not the passenger. Any test which is <100% accurate, cheap and fast? Good idea to repeat it. All the above is (or should be) common knowledge ~ 2 years into this business. You and your upvoters really do need to try and keep up.
  14. I’m a foreigner sitting in a little cottage (why would we live in a box?) and I’ll tell him how I nearly got decapitated (twice) by the same kid on a JetSki whilst coming up from a dive off Pattaya beach, directly under a dive flag and all. (god knows why I ever thought to try a dive there - desperate I guess). Of course, flopping about on the surface he’ll be more visible … or maybe more of a target ...
  15. Hotel tycoon calls for Thailand to ease restrictions on alcohol - didn’t see that coming.
  16. If you can’t see the stupidity of someone asking how to buy crypto on social media couple of days after Bitcoin just coming off ATH then better not to help this loser part with his or her money. You’re such a crypto enthusiast I’m sure you’ll be aware that about 12 hours ago BC dropped 87% in < 60 seconds … and you are enabling an obvious novice to get into crypto? Next time I see a kiddy playing with a loaded weapon I should keep quiet eh? Best of luck to both of you.
  17. Hahaha a bit like asking “How do I buy a gun?” or “Where do I score some drugs?” … you have to ask a question like that … you shouldn’t be looking …
  18. Just wondering - can you play the piano now at all?
  19. Similar experience here … after both my 1st and 2nd AZ shots I was abducted by aliens (sounded like Planet Thnarg but tough to be sure what a methane-breather is trying to tell you) and savagely anal-probed. Can’t wait for my booster shot and this time I’ll make sure my iPhone is fully charged - their podule operates on 240 quintillion volts which was an issue.
  20. I’ve found myself unable to pronounce the ‘F’ in Pfizer without laughing like a drain … but then again I’ve had only Astra Zeneca shots so there’s that. Get well soon. and (a) don’t seek medical advice on social media and (b) don’t be such a worrywart
  21. Exactly as i suggested. They are two entirely seperate vaccines. SinoVAC Oz is OK with this. SinoPHARM is not approved by OZ TGA so cannot be administered withinn Oz and is not recognised as a vaccine for incoming travellers. Regardless of immigration requirements I’m advising my Thai partner not to get Sinopharm even if it’s offered for free.
  22. Ask him for a drive of the truck … if it’s any good ask him if you can borrow it weekends. Maybe start a little business.
  23. Actually I don’t think Sinopharm is approved by Australian TGA yet. Believe Sinovac is OK into Oz.
  24. Ignore the ‘hotbox’ comments, that’s nonsense, careful design and positioning makes containers perfectly viable in any climate. Shading, ‘tropical’ roof, strategic positioning of solar panelling and (recently) cheaper and effective super-white paint are all available without even resorting to wall insulation (and ex-refrigerated boxes come with that as standard). I stayed at a container-based AirBnB-type joint couple of years ago (near Buriram?). Very pleasant. Biggest drawback will be cost, was possible to get containers pretty cheap pre-Covid, now the logistics business is in disarray currently the only bargains for used boxes are end-of-the-line countries like Oz and NZ. There’s an outfit in BK (Kings?) will give you guidance on prices but if your budget and expertise warrant it then with a little research you can save by buying direct from manufacturers in China and thereby get access to ‘customised’ or ‘speciality’ boxes … fully opening one or two sides, flip-roof, awning doors etc. … there are many variations not available on general market. Good luck with your project and maybe remove the ‘mobile’ aspect from your post and your thinking … beyond the initial delivery there will nothing ‘mobile’ about a container-based home, it will need to be very firmly integrated into the environment.
