  1. I know the Pajero from my years in China. The Pajero was often used by the PRC army special police and the "black hand" forces that patrol through areas like Xinjiang. The Mitsubishi Pajero is no longer in production. After a run of over 40 years, Mitsubishi discontinued the Pajero in 2021. Some of the most reliable engines used in the Mitsubishi Pajero over the years include: Mitsubishi 4D56 Diesel The 2.5-liter 4D56 diesel engine is considered one of Mitsubishi's most reliable. It was featured in the Pajero, Delica, and L200 from the mid-1980s until 2016. Owners report lifespans exceeding 300,000 miles with proper maintenance. Mitsubishi 4G94 Petrol The 2.0-liter 4G94 four-cylinder petrol engine was used in Pajeros and other Mitsubishi models in the 2000s. It produced up to 144 hp and was known for its reliability, with Chinese automaker Hawtai continuing production until 2015 after Mitsubishi stopped making it. Mitsubishi 6G74 Petrol The 3.5-liter 6G74 V6 petrol engine appeared in the Pajero and L200 over a long production run. It was known for its durability, handling towing and off-road use well. Hyundai also licensed the engine for use in their vehicle. In general, both the petrol and diesel engines used in the Mitsubishi Pajero over its four generations have a reputation for reliability. With proper maintenance, Pajeros could rack up high mileages before major issues arose.
  2. Bonafides Retired. Prior: executive vp for a 105 billion USD multinational supply chain engineering & delivery organization and 3 additional supply chain organizations with experience in international expansion, M&A, integration, government relations, and operations. I mention this as none of my experience (including 20 years in Asia) tells me what many of you have written in 1 sentence or less, ain't gonna happen. This government and economy would be challenged to pass a thorough business risk assessment. I also would suggest the money hungry oligarchs focus on a strategy of a better system of education, acknowledgement and plan to act on endemic corruption, lessen businesses restrictions, break the monopolies, accept a real democracy, shrink the bloated law enforcement structures, get rid of selective law enforcement & enforce the law uniformly, and so much more. Then there is always the option to become another vassal state for Xi's plans which would further cement the oligarchs grip on power. Technology is a big and wide term. What specifically? Design, ok if sufficient talent, cloud server farms? Obviously a big no, etc. This effort looks like more busy work for the uniforms (state professionals). Follow the leaders: root out corruption, improve education, improve infrastructure, greatly reduce the bloated government and military structures. A complicated subject that would fill 100 pages of ideas and feasibility plans, so nuff said. Thailand has great potential that will only be fulfilled with real servant leadership. My 2 cents.
  3. A number of years ago I went swimming off Karon Beach. I am an experienced swimmer. There were no red flags. I recognized a few very strong discrete under tow currents. The conditions were clearly unsafe for novice, weak, and children swimmers. One needs to exercise caution even with no red flags or low wave height. Don't swim in dicey waters especially if you are under the influence of any intoxicants. Common sense. Use it.
  4. In my experience the information is correct. The China visa center on Rama IX is large and set up to facilitate relatively quick visa turnaround despite the high volumes of applicants. I have applied and have been granted visas a few times. The set up is impressive and English, Thai, Spanish, and Mandarin are spoken.
  5. Massive corruption waiting in the wings. What's next call center back rooms ala Kokang and Preah Sihanouk? Just what a superstitious consumer indebted society needs. To each their own yet I see a large under educated population about to be fleeced. Gambling is a tax on the mathematically challenged.
  6. Difficult for the park rangers or RTP to enforce the law when there is fractional enforcement. These public positions are staffed with "clockers" who prefer tea with their phone movies. It appears there is very little enforcement and therefore they are reacting. Special divisions do better such as the Narcotics Suppression Bureau and the Crime Suppression Bureau. To be fair has anyone seen regular foot patrols in any hotspot areas e.g. Pattaya, Patong,Romklao, to name a few.
  7. I won't be surprised to find out that these Chinese men are not tourists. Just a supposition. 8 Chinese men executing a coordinated attack. Prachinburi close to Cambodia. Organized crime?
  8. A UPS usually fulfills 2 key requirements, providing surge protection and a specified number of minutes of battery back up until the normal power resumes. The design doesn't perform the function of providing power for extended periods. The UPS is a very short term electrical bridge so that steps can be taken for continuity and to power down safely in the event the external power doesn't resume quickly. The UPS doesn't provide nearly 3 hours of power. If you have long electrical downtimes, >10 minutes, then you probably need a small generator and good power surge protector or UPS with a built in power surge protection like the APS model suggested earlier in this thread. I am not a IT technical expert yet I have managed technical IT groups. If a more savvy IT person can correct what I have suggested or points to any misconception then thanks.
  9. Shameful. Boycott their poison if you are ignorant enough to drink it. Red bull is a health hazard.
  10. There is a degree for Xenophobia and foot in mouth disease? Daddy sent the hypocrite to the U.S. for university. I guess Chula ranked at 117 in Asia and 601 out of 800 globally (Source: Times Higher Education Ranking) wasn't good enough. P.S. No disrespect to any of my Thai doctors who are excellent. Just want to point out the hypocrisy.
  11. I won't speculate on what occurred. I do know that I have read reports in the past 3 months of numerous incidents on Bangla Road. I have lived in Thailand 7 years and cannot understand why the Thai police have zero cops walking a "beat". The only patrols I have ever seen are two cops on a motorcycle punching a control at a wealthy person's home, international resort, or a diplomatic mission and then moving on. Road side checkpoints are not patrols in my view. Learning the beat, knowing the people, and understanding the rhythm of the neighborhood is not part of their SOP. As such they continue to foster negative experiences with respect to their tourism revenue stream and allow Thailand to remain in the top 5% percent globally in road deaths per Capita. It's hard to do your job when your mobile phone gets in the way.
  12. Not sure what really happened. A few years ago I was walking at night on Sukhumvit with a small yet very expensive camera. As I was walking a someone sneaked up from behind, haha, and over my shoulder tried to wrestle the camera out of my hand. I reflexively turned and punched the perp in the mouth. It was only then that I realized it was a ladyboy. He looked at me in shock as her mouth was bleeding and he ran away crying. I was a bit shocked too as I have 25+years of martial arts training and I didn't control my strike as trained. It was pure reflex. Live and learn.
  13. They can put together a task force party island yet they cannot muster the will or assign clean resources to investigate the unsolved string of deaths on Koh Tao.

  15. How stupid do you have to be to evade being drafted and then getting expelled from your safe refuge? I guess the Russians (Turgenev} really did conceive the notion of nihilism. In the land of karma the wheel spins for this raschist.
  16. Oftentimes skin issues e.g. atopic dermatitis, eczema, etc. are triggered by environmental, medicinal, or foods and it's a matter of thresholds. I can drink a beer or two. Any more than 2 every 5 days and I get a reaction on the back of my hands. An allergist did some tests and found that the lead content in hops trigger my hypersensitivity to minute amount of ingested lead. If I stop drinking beer the outbreak slowly leaves in a few days. Some beers react more than others with my sensitivity. China's "Harbin" beer, which I like with spicy foods, reacts after 1 beer. Try to be mindful of what may trigger the breakout unless it's purely genetic. I found an OTC balm that is very helpful for me albeit a lot more expensive than what is recommended for 25 baht. I have wasted money on Protopic, steroids, calcineurin inhibitors, coal tar, and vitamin D analogues with very little efficacy. I tried this cream recommended by the Singapore Skin Centre and it is very helpful, "SUU BALM". I bought it in a Bangkok pharmacy but it is available on Lazada and Shoppee. I also use it as an aftershave balm as it has menthol and 5 ceramides, among other no nonsense ingredients, which makes sense to me as an aftershave. SUU cream costs about 600 baht per tube. A small pea sized amount goes a long way. Best of luck in finding relief. Cheers
  17. I can't recall. I want retired at the time and the company insurance paid. I am certain that the hospital/Dr. could provide an estimate. I am certain it wasn't cheap. The pre-op was extraordinarily thorough: antibacterial face wash, antibiotic drops in both eyes every 10 minutes for an hour. A mild dose of Valium prior to the procedure. No anesthesia. They use advanced equipment, GE and Siemens, to insure proper alignment of the implants. Eye cup is used for 2 nights after surgery then all is normal. Cataracts advance incrementally so I lost all reference to clear vision until the procedure was over. I was amazed at the clarity and acuity of sight post op. The first week everything in daily life took on a jewel like clarity. I am really pleased with the difference. Almost forgot that the implants are UV protective so no issues going forward. Best of luck
  18. I was diagnosed with cataracts in both eyes. I also had astigmatism and wore progressive lenses. I had Toric corneal transplants placed in both eyes. The operation was outpatient and I had one eye done and the other the following week. I was actually able to walk home an hour after the procedure. I was thoroughly impressed with Dr. Keerati Pungpapong at Bumrungrad. It would be difficult for me to find a better physician in California. Outstanding patient interaction, highly skilled, with excellent care. It's been 5 years and my eyes never bother me and my vision is excellent.
  19. The guy requires a psych evaluation and drug testing.
  20. Hope all lives are spared. The Changwat governors should be held accountable. I have been to provinces in Issan where the local government and people are doing a decent job in limiting fires. How? By offering alternatives such as raising cattle.
  21. April 2023, Surin province. In the shade.
  22. According to sleep science, the optimal room temperature for good nighttime sleep is around 65°F (18.3°C). This recommendation is based on your body’s internal temperature regulation, which follows a circadian rhythm. During a 24-hour period, your body’s internal temperature naturally shifts, and this rhythm plays a crucial role in your sleep quality. As you sleep, your core body temperature drops, and a cooler room makes it easier to fall and stay asleep. Most doctors recommend keeping the thermostat set between 60 to 68°F (15.6 to 20°C) for the most comfortable sleep.

  24. According to Dr. Lee, Mao's physician, he had sex with girls 14 and under. He never washed afterward as he needed their Yin to balance his prodigious Yang.
