I hope the guy above you who was sitting on his balcony having a beer His concrete balcony was fine, it was all of the plaster board and metal supports that collapsed. But on a 10m balcony that is quite a crash.

Even if you rent the low build quality can be an issue. I live in an eight floor ten year old condo in jomtien. This year my balcony ceiling collapsed. Although the landlord rebuilt I am moving because I fear the remaining condo ceilings. When I open doors with the air con running I can hear the bedroom ceiling flex.

I wonder whether the concept of face / losing face is involved. Match that to ptsd and it would be a volatile combination.

Taxation of Ex-Pats pensions etc.
Sqoop replied to LittleBear57's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
It seems simplistic to say that a tax treaty means no tax. For instance if UK tax were 30% and local tax 35 % then there might be tax to pay. Also if pensions are tax except in the UK but deemed to be income here ? Need to wait and see. -
It's not my box, came with a rented room, so don't want to use a hammer. Yes I watched the video and tried bouncing it. But not everything on YouTube works.

The big key guy ( link above ) said that would open the safe and replace the lock for 1200. Sounds good. But they seem to be open on week days.

Anyone know a pattaya based locksmith who could open a simple lock box ? It the same type as found in hotels, keypad and ring key. It's battery has long since died so it will need a ring based skeleton key. Cheers

Chonburi Embarks on Ambitious Smart City Transformation Project
Sqoop replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
I worked on an NEC IT project for smart cities in 2018 from a big data perspective. It's all about AI and control. Edge of network AI based cameras to people count ( man/woman/child), vehicle monitoring, lamp post sensors for chemical monitoring I.e. graffiti, and real time crowd monitoring through for instance mobile mach addresses. Also end to end vehicle monitoring, parking spot to parking spot. I think it is a WEF programme which is of course a corporate organisation. -
Dongtan beach yes, what a nightmare on a busy day when grid lock occurs.

What a shocking thought, it will never happen when most roles are purchased via bribes. -
Tourism confidence in Thailand plummets amid economic jitters
Sqoop replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Look to the future, tourism is going to decline. Economic problems in the US, Europe and China. The c40 cities loonies in the west plan to limit flights. At the same time the Thai establishment tax plans will impact expats. Time to set up that plan B. -
The tap water here at our condo can be contaminated with silt and god knows what else. I just use it for washing up. I use water from filter machines and then boil that for drinking. No problems yet.

Deputy finance minister defends digital wallet scheme
Sqoop replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
By giving every adult 10k aren't they causing inflation? I.e. increasing the digital money supply. -
I know at least three women here who have hit the 70 kg level. But they don't seem to want or be able to lose weight. One of them is delusional, thinking she is desirable no matter the weight.

How much monthly salary should you pay for rescuing a bar girl?

How much money ? You just should not, it will end in tears. Give them an hourly rate, meet them a few times. Try the next one. -

Tie a yellow ribbon round the old oak tree. Used to drive me mad as a kid.
