  1. Surely you joke ? Distributed systems offer parallel processing, redundancy and resilience as well as potentially being open source. The move to distributed systems in general was because monolithic systems like centralised databases could not handle modern data streaming volumes.
  2. I grew up during the cold War so we were always aware of the nuclear problem and risks. The problem today is that the young are ignorant of the risks. The Australian defence minister said that in US war games related to Taiwan nuclear weapons were always used. Even in the latest simulation that I saw relating to Taiwan US bases like Guam were attacked and then the Chinese resorted to nukes.
  3. Meaning to free individuals from the constraints of authoritative cultural traditions and institutions ? I'm not sure that is true. Both the west and east seem to be authoritarian to various degrees.
  4. In terms of demographic collapse I thought China was leading the way ? The young don't seem to want to create families, preferring to be independent. I was surprised by the hook up culture in Pattaya even among professional women.
  5. I just went to pay my monthly condo rental, the receipt / contract was provided as reused paper. I made a joke that she had provided me with data. She joked about it. But it is a list of condo numbers and I guess owner names. So as a representative sample I can say that my condo owners are Chinese, Russian and Indian. Makes me wonder who has my data.
  6. Tell us more .. what is the likely outcome on either side in the event of an invasion ?
  7. Better to ask the question and have a plan B than not. The Chinese are driven by ideology rather than logic or economic sense.
  8. I thought it was possibly to get these red veins removed by injection as well ? @Sheryl ?
  9. I think the BBC will crash and burn when the license fee is taken away. When they have to compete in an open market with real streaming services. They are very left leaning and woke. The nonsense that they currently put out, like Dr Who, reflects this.
  10. Much the same as you I would guess. Try to choose a range of independent trusted sources and try to gauge bias. I think that generally we are headed for a dystopian future.
  11. I think this was created using a GAN based AI system. Once this type of tech existed and was perfected for sound and video I don't see how anything online can be trusted.
  12. That is a good quote and I agree with it. Family members can be a real head ache even in good times.
  13. Try the boathouse or surf kitchen for a decent breakfast and good coffee. The boat house offers beans as well as real sausages rather than hot dogs. But the staff at surf kitchen are very nice. These places are right on the beach front. Surf kitchen is just by soi 5.
  14. As a follow up I used super sports at Central Festival. Second floor nearest the sea on the left hand side. They have a 40% sale on. I prefer to try cloths on, can never be sure of sizes here.
  15. Can anyone advise a good swim wear shop for western sizes in pattaya ? I mean men's swim shorts to fit waist 100 cm. Cheers in advance.
  16. I see it mentioned above, exercise/weight/diet. Exercise every day, reduce the weight and have a good diet. I swim every day, it keeps me fit and healthy at 55. Also reduce carbs in the diet, loads of fruit/veg and drink plenty of water.
  17. Is this not related to the advent of Central Bank digital currencies ? Public distributed ccy's are seen as competition. Hence the taxes and new laws in many regions. Seems like a dystopian future.
  18. When I came here from NZ in December I had to meet the requirements of my transit countries as well. Australia and Singapore made it difficult and expensive to get here. The airline enforced that, not the arrival immigration.
  19. I think it is a measure of the desperation that people here are feeling due to debt. Not condoning it but putting it in perspective.
  20. I suppose someone else will already have said it. But after the 2008 crisis bail in laws were passed in most countries. So in the event of a major banking crisis creditors will be bailed in ( if a reformed banking entity can be re-floated )
  21. It's a Tisso prs200 , I think they worry about the waterproof membrane but that wasn't replaced the last couple of times. Single battery, ran out ages ago. Just want to get it replaced so that I can use it again. It's a simple process, at one point back in NZ I had the four prong opener. I have replaced the battery myself. But no tools here.
