  1. There are a few English-speaking channels - Warner TV, ASN, Eurosport, Nat Geo Wild among them.

I seem to be going in circles looking for ASN. I read somewhere that Grammy had sold the rights to ASN to DTV, then someone said that True just signed a 4 year deal with ASN, now I see this.

Can someone clarify who, besides True, is offering ASN and speculate on how long it may be available there?

    Thanks

  2. T O S = Terms of Service

Proof? Proof of what? That I am who he said I am, or not who he said I am , or that the sponsor actually posted it? If the latter, the post in question, included in my response which was also removed.. it is apparently in the keeping place where mods keep post that they have removed.

  3. Can some of you who use IPTV post some experiences. I have 3bb (claims) 9 Mbps service.

IPTV, please don't take my post the wrong way. I'm simply looking for information.

Also how about getting ASN. I don't see that on maigetv. Mostly I'm interested in USA sports, (never watch football / soccer.)

  4. .. I agree with the post about extending your hand to introduce yourself to the curious four legged gardian/s of the territory.

I don't. The last time I tried that was on a buddy's terrace. I had visited that house dozens of times. He had 3 dogs, looked a bit like Samoyed. Put my hand down and got a finger ripped open.

  5. There is a global house on the road to khan kan, the road just past the mall take a left in front of big c. you have to go past the store to the turn around and come back to it on the front road. I bought a lot of paint and supplies there from march 26th to when I came back home in april. They even have fireplaces that do put off heat, I don't why. It was 105 degrees on some days while I was there. The home pro is on the first highway to khan kan before you get into korat. Just so you I was coming in from kham thaleso.

    Yep, there is now. smile.png

I first posted 2 years and about Bt 100k ago. That house upgraded and sold. Now in Khon Kaen.

  6. excellent finishing.

What I don't understand is the handkerchief size of land many houses are built on.

During our building time we lived in a moo baan where you could see and hear all the noises and activities of 6 neighbors whistling.gif

Our house sits on 1 rai of land. I consider 1/4 of rai to be minimum to build house on.

1 rai in a village that has boom-box pickup trucks can be noisier than a mooban in the city with considerate neighbors. Been there done both. I'll take considerate neighbors.

  7. I want to know more about Hua Hin, Cha Am, Koh Samui, Rayong, Chumpon and Surat Thani. Also some inland cities like Chiang Mai, Korat and Ubon Ratchathani.

    Hi n00b,

I can give you some opinions. Just remember, what works for some is a disaster for others.

-Hua Hin - lots of traffic, beach is just so-so, rents a bit expensive (lived in Cha am)

-Cha am - (lived there 3 years) less traffic (but you will need transportation like a rented or purchased motorcycle), better beach, slightly cheaper rents

-Rayong - for my wife and I, had an unfriendly feel. Beach is okay, rents are okay (only visited)

-Chumphon - beaches near town were dirty when I was there (visited 4-5 times) .. best beach is Thungwualen about 50+ km north. Rents are okay. One of the rainiest provinces in Thailand.

-Chiang Mai - (lived there 2 times for a combined 18 months) pretty nice city - traffic around the moat area gets crazy at rush hours. Lots of shopping and services (probably the best on your list). Rents very reasonable. (need transportation)

-Korat - (lived about 30 km south for 2 years) Traffic can be pretty bad. Rents okay. Shopping pretty good. Some apartments and small condos near The Mall. (need transportation)

Re (need transportation). If you are planning on staying in one area for 6 months, why not but a small motorbike. If you leave Thailand alone, it makes a nice parting gift to your friend .. or if you take her with you, a gift to the family.

Don't worry too much about the unfamiliarity aspect for your lady-friend. This is Thailand, she is Thai, she is 31. The other side of that coin, if she has no social contacts there, you will be her center of attention.

FWIW, I now live in Khon Kaen -- after living in Bangkok (2x), Chiang Rai, Chiang Mai (2x), Pattaya, Cha am, Bang Saphan (Ban Krut), Korat (Pak Thongchai).

You seem to be thinking the right way. Keep going in that direction and enjoy your time here .. I have enjoyed mine! smile.png

Do I really need transportation everywhere? I've read online that there are metered taxis in Chiang Mai, Korat and Ubon Ratchathani. I even took one in Ubon Ratchathani city (spent half a day there), it did however require me to make a phone call and wait for 30 minutes as there were hardly any driving around.

Well, I have my own transportation, but .. Thailand can be quite different from how it is represented online.

Will your girlfriend be doing any cooking? If so she will probably be shopping at the Thai markets. Market songtaews don't run in every neighborhood.

In my honest opinion, if you ask a Thai woman to walk everywhere, you have the makings of a rebellion. What is your budget for taxis fare for yourself and lady friend?

I'm not talking about making long trips on a motorcycle, but taking a nice ride a few km down the beach on a Sunday afternoon, going shopping?

I have yet to find a Thai city where walking is not a pain-in-the-butt -- well, Maybe Chantaburi. Anyhow, the above is just my opinion.

    Anyhow, you're welcome.

  8. I lived for a couple of years in an area of Issan where water wells were non existent. No one would even talk about drilling. Had been tried countless time. Drilling deep was hitting rock and couldn't drill through it.

One neighbor behind us had what looked like 3 or 4 concrete silos - taller than the second floor of his 2 level house . I always figured they were standard concrete ring water tanks. Then one of the local construction guys told us about them.

They were 1 m diameter rings that went 60m deep. He filled the system with rain water from his roof and went the entire year without using the local supply. Anyone wants to do a drive-by look-see, PM me for directions. I never got around to talking to the man so don't know him at all.

  9. ^^ 1/16th grout line for marble '?' cm thick? I have yet to see a tile setter here in Thailand use a good float. I have seen lots of thin grout sort of mashed into place. YMMV, but I would be very skeptical about really thin grout. Seems like a semi-permanent job for your local tile guy.

  10. Sorry to be a bit late to this topic.

1 - Most sound from pumps is higher frequency, and as result is easier to attenuate. Higher frequencies don't "flank" as much either.

2 - Open cell materials 'absorb' better than closed cell, i.e., styrofoam

3 - Directionality is one key.

In the sketch (basically a tunnel) , d represents the largest dimension of the openings at each end, either height of width. Making the tunnel longer (from the corresponding side of the pump) at each end, essentially creates a silencer effect.

"Aiming" the openings in the most convenient direction direct the already attenuated sund away from the subject.

For the dense material, consider plywood or ?

For the absorbent material, open cell foam, dense fiberglass or mineral fiber. If is has a mesh retainer, all the better. Stick or tack the absorber into place om both sides and top.

  12. I'm not suggesting that the OP is fabricating this scenario .. but TV seems to be a common venue for advancing certain stories that are "proven" with false information, NDA's, suggestions and innuendo.

One that comes to mind was a Youtube video of an "investigation" into how missionaries in the North are sexually exploiting children on a massively organized scale -- with the support of the local police. One interview with a supposed predator was nothing but smalltalk and suggestions about "things". Another was a telecon with an "informant" who supposedly feared for his life .. yet never said anything of substance about the criminal activity.

Maybe the OP did as is suggested in this thread. But OP provided no facts or evidence.

Maybe it happened -- or maybe it was a troll.

  13. BTW: question would have better be placed in the visa subforum!

Not necessarily, and why the exclamation?

My post was about KK Imm. A slightly different treatment than I experienced for 2 years at Dan Kwian. They didn't "do a new 90 day report", they canceled my old one then sent me to the 90 day report desk.

  14. Scorpio, water treatment is a complex subject and the industry rife with fad-type devices that simply don't work. I recommend lots of research using resources that are reliable.

Filtering/treating your water falls into several categories.

    - Filtering out particles

    - Reducing scale and hardness (dissolved solids)

    - Reducing tastes and odors (created by organics)

    - Killing organisms (bacteria, spores, etc)

Each category requires a different type of approach. There were a couple of pretty good water threads in the DIY Housing forum. I recommend reading all of them before spending Bt XX,XXX that may be money thrown away.
