Just finished watching Nightmare Alley. Definitely a bit different, but watchable, close to 7/10 in my books. It's a few months old now.

I would have expected there to have been a huge uproar about it in this thread though, as it doesn't tick any of the boxes. No mixed race couples, no lesbians, no gays, etc. By the criteria used by many here, it must be the best movie ever.

    Enjoy.

No diversity or inclusion, no alphabet people, thanks for mentioning it, i'll give it a go.

Well Russia has been banned from taking part in the European song contest.

I still think the Ukraine president is irresponsible telling his people to fight I think it's pointless against the inward forces of the likes of Russia they have no chance.

France 24 seems to be having quite a balanced report on the situation.

Stalin ordered his people to fight to the last man and had anyone shot who retreated, the Ukrainians don't need any threats to defend their home land, comrade!

Just watching a new series called magpie, its about a writer who writes thrillers but dies before he finishes the book jumps back and fore between the story and the agent trying to track down the last chapter, quite enjoying it ,mind you in the 50s story bit it ticks all boxes mixed race couple ,black vicer and plenty of coloured village residents, goodness knows why they have to do this ,its so silly.

Cynical attempt to re write our social history and convince people England has always been diversly awash with black people. They seem to up the lies all the time, black Ann Bolyn, black Queen Charlotte now black vicars and families in a 1955 English village. If you watched it on itv half the people in the ads would be black as well!

Which part is so difficult to understand? The show shows deliberately people who can't sing. There is no question about that. They sing unbelievable bad, not just not so good.

I live in Thailand since 25 years and I heard lots of Thai music. I like a lot of it and I can accept it almost all when the singer can sing (like the original versions). But imagine the worst karaoke performances which you heard. That is the level which they show on TV.

Thai singing shows do not put people on to make a mockery out of them, that is the sort of nonsense you see on western shows. At least not that I have ever seen myself. I have been watching them for over 25 years and been to recordings of them at Tv studios. While some are less than great they are not deliberately selecting people who cannot sing. I'm only talking about Thai music contests featuring luktung, morlam, phua chee wit, or rarely, lukrung, not Thais singing western material or string, that is usually awful IMO.

Like it or not you will never see an official policy of killing stray dogs in Thailand. It is completely against their culture. It's difficult enough to get a genuinely suffering dog euthanized here, let alone a healthy stray.

As I've already said, CNVR has a proven track record in many locations around the world including here in Phuket of course and I'd suggest that it's the only method that is ethical enough for Thailand to adopt anyway.

So learn to live with it.

Killing animals is not against Thai culture they kill thousands a day to eat. It's against the nonsense from a certain institution, but killing them is the only serious long term solution, it's been show to work in other countries.  CNVR only works in small environments like Phuket, it's supporters only have excuses why it does not work countrywide. Meanwhile the soi dog population continues to grow.

My gf selects them and watches them. I don't know the names of the shows and it is not important enough for me to find out.

I know in one show are maybe 10 people who are maybe able to sing or maybe not. And then the so called experts guess if they will be able to sing or not. And then comes the moment of truth when they actually "sing". About 50% know what they are doing...

How can you judge only 50% know what they are doing when you don't know the song, the original singer or the style and what the requirements are of a particular genre ? Maybe you should ask the gf for a lesson on some background, even if it's not important to you it obviously is to her.

Maybe you missed the original comment.

Talent shows with talented people are absolutely fine.

But some shows show intentionally people who can't sing. It's not that they try and are not very good. They just can't sing and Thais make a show out of that. That is the horrible part!

That's the x factor etc not Thai shows. You must have seen a lot so can you post a few examples of shows made from Thais who can't sing, according to you.

Well nobody claimed he was Eric Clapton or Jimi Hendrix, but for Thailand he is pretty good and elevated the standard to be higher than rendition #4 of the night of Hotel California that The Wonderful Bar put out.

They claimed he was a legend when in reality he was just a very mediocre Thai playing western hits like a parrot to westerners.

Of all the Thai TV I am most surprised/annoyed by the people who can't sing contests.

And it seems my gf loves them. After many years I learned to understand a lot of things about Thais. But that one is still a mystery to me.

Singing contests are the best thing about Thai Tv, apart from the backstory sentimental settings they like, along the lines of poor family living in a shack, dads got cancer mum working 100 hours a week selling noodles etc. It does help if you know the songs, who sang them originally and who the judges are. Thais have an enormous talent for song and dance and many famous stars owe their success to talent shows. Today they still throw up some remarkable talents, even kids. This girl nong guitar is one of them, singing a famous Pumpuang song-

I get woken at minimum 3 times a night thanks to dogs barking, howling & fighting, just one night of peace & quiet would be nice so I can get a proper nights sleep.

Did you know that the military the world over use sleep deprivation as a form of torture ??

That's how I feel. And please don't anyone tell me "it's time to move".

The usual dog propaganda is there is no such thing as a bad dog only bad owners! What about the dogs with no owners and if they are so good natured why do they have to be trained not to bite, bark and stop being the pests many of them are?
