The limiting factor for torrenting is the speed of the internet and not the computer. I gather you know this but it's worth pointing out to the OP. Except very slowly unless it has an SSD which I believe some new ones do. They are also prone to overheat and die if left on for extended periods of time. At least mine did. Not a good recommendation for someone not computer savvy.

Toss the entire computer (except maybe the power supply). Get another one built. I live in Pattaya and am quite happy to help you organise it (free). I actually recommend a mini computer like the ASUS PN51 or Intel NUC series where can choose your own memory and drive unless you really want a full sized desktop. If you're not planning on high end gaming there's not much point in a full sized desktop these days. Everything you have is totally obsolete.

As has been pointed out to you, the machines NEVER had an internet connection. The chips are flashed with the software code in byte form and the main board is separately sealed with an official lead seal or numbered plastic strip which is registered. The machines are also locked. No evidence has been produced in a court that it was even POSSIBLE for the machines to be hacked.

The rational behind dropping the gold standard was that central banks need to be able to print money to stimulate the economy during times of recession and reduce the money supply during good times.
