  1. The public school district in Seattle has filed a novel lawsuit against the tech giants behind TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube and Snapchat, seeking to hold them accountable for the mental health crisis among youth. Seattle Public Schools filed the lawsuit Friday in U.S. District Court. The 91-page complaint says the social media companies have created a public nuisance by targeting their products to children. It blames them for worsening mental health and behavioral disorders including anxiety, depression, disordered eating and cyberbullying; making it more difficult to educate students; and forcing schools to take steps such as hiring additional mental health professionals, developing lesson plans about the effects of social media, and providing additional training to teachers. https://apnews.com/article/social-media-seattle-lawsuits-mental-health-965a8f373e3bfed8157571912cc3b542?utm_source=homepage&utm_medium=TopNews&utm_campaign=position_06
  2. At the time there were no vaccines available to about half the population but Australia remained covid free because of the travel restrictions and strict quarantine for those who could get back. Returnees were restricted to about 2,000 a week.
  3. Australia did, for a long time. At one point there were 40,000 citizens waiting for permission to return home.
  4. Elon Musk has secured a world record for the largest loss of personal fortune in history, Guinness World Records said Friday. In a blog post, the global organization, which keeps track of a huge variety of records, cited Forbes’s estimate that Musk had lost around $182 billion since November 2021 but noted that other sources indicate the figure is closer to $200 billion. While the true figure is unclear, Musk’s losses appear to easily surpass those of the previous record-holder, Japanese tech investor Masayoshi Son, who lost $58.6 billion in 2000. https://thehill.com/policy/finance/3803661-elon-musk-secures-world-record-for-largest-ever-loss-of-personal-fortune/
  5. Many people willingly choose it and far from just alcoholics. There are worse choices in life.
  6. The Ken Starr / Benghazi principle. Search long enough and ye shall find. Or not.
  7. I reject that any semi educated person will be unaware of the requirements for entry into any country they travel to. The airlines and travel agencies will be emailing them.
  8. I don't dispute that. My point is that there won't be enough of them to make a difference, let alone kill the tourist industry as some are claiming. Most international travellers are vaxxed.
  9. You can bet that if the GOP win the presidency again then they will pardon every one of the insurrectionists jailed over this and pin the same medals on them all.
  10. Presumably, they don't need to prove that he died from any particular cause, that ha already been established. The task is now to prove that Trump incited the riot.
  11. Did you find it difficult to understand? The Chinese only recently opened it's borders and the extent and speed of the XBB1.5 variant spread is also very recent.
  12. Vaccines give better and longer protection from serious illness than infections from covid infection. link posted previously.
  13. Do you think there's anybody ever been alive (Americans and allies) who don't want to see America great? They take exception with the word "again". Was America ever great and if it was when did it stop being great? Was that just because a liberal was elected president?
  14. The airlines were responsible for checking that previously. No reason they can't do it again.
  15. Haters will hate. The Capitol police ruled that Sicknick died in the line of duty. The USCP accepts the findings from the District of Columbia's Office of the Chief Medical Examiner that Officer Brian Sicknick died of natural causes. This does not change the fact Officer Sicknick died in the line of duty, courageously defending Congress and the Capitol. https://www.uscp.gov/media-center/press-releases/medical-examiner-finds-uscp-officer-brian-sicknick-died-natural-causes
  16. Old article. Pre omicron and probably relates to infections. The government did not have much time to respond to China's sudden decision to open the borders or the fact that the virus exploded in China recently. Many countries have followed suit.
  17. The vast majority of people are vaccinated. The few who are stopped by this won't be noticed.
  18. She's going to be chair of the House Intelligence Committee. Not a joke.
  19. The special counsel can't be stopped by anybody. That's why he was appointed and why they exist. That's already happened long ago. It didn't appear to affect Biden's election. Or the mid terms. The contents of that laptop have been public for some time. I think it would be mistake for Biden to run again but nothing to do with the contents of that laptop. That won't hurt him.
