  1. Submarines are not intended to operate in the Gulf. You might have considered the Andaman sea. Most western allied countries military purchases are intended to interoperate with each other and the US. The 35 is no different. They will not buy many and would be used more for training and exercises than intended for combat.
  2. I have a mate who lives in Jomtien. We have been comparing prices and finding that prices for food in the downmarket street food stalls are approx double in Pattaya compared to Jomtien. A meal in Pattaya now costs around 120 to 150 baht and is about half that in Jomtien. The food in Pattyaa north is much more expensive than pre covid and rising fast it seems. Last night I bought grilled mackerel and fish cakes in a street food place in a bus park just up 500m from soi 6 on road 2. Both were 150 baht.
  3. At least that. At 10am I will see a dozen guys sitting somewhere in soi 6 drinking beer.
  4. What is duodart? A urologist told me I have BPH about 3.5 cm. He suggested duodart but I haven't have urinary issues yet. I did read that stinging nettle root powder can be effective but I only take some occasionally when I remember.
  5. Most of the shrews I looked up didn't come from the Pattaya area. This one doesn't have a bushy tail like that. It's long and less puffy looking. The animal is about the size of a cat only much slimmer. The cats around here are well fed.
  6. Arboreal animals are more likely to be squirrels from what I read. Shrews will climb low trees but tend to be mainly terrestrial I think. These run along power lines. I'm waiting for someone who knows to give it's Linnaeus name. It could be one of several species but there seems to be a common species around Pattaya. Until recently there was a large tree in Bukhao soi 15 next door to Grand Ave where an adult pair lived but the tree was cut down.
  7. China is not necessarily the source of new strains. More often than not it isn't and no new strains have been detected from China in recent arrivals. It's also likely that anyone affording to travel is likely vaccinated anyway. The vaccines won't prevent transmission anyway. The main danger is to the unvaccinated, both the tourists themselves and the locals.
  8. On arrival I believe. How could they trust them to have been tested? Many aren't even doing that.
  9. The photo is not necessarily the animal.
  10. The last time I liked loud music was in 1974 when I saw Black Sabbath, supported by ACDC, in Sydney. Since then it's been pretty much just noise.
  11. They did reduce infections for the alpha and delta. They prevent severe illness for all mutations. Many people still die from omicron, most are unvaccinated.
  12. You might be right but I'm going with Pallas's squirrel, Callosciurus erythraeus. Most of the shrews don't live around Pattaya except one and it's mainly olive in colour. This one is distinctly brown. I'd like to know what it really is. The Northern Treeshrew Tupaia belangeri, possibly the best cabdidate is also mainly terrestial, Good data is hard to find but the shrews seem to be smaller and mainly insectivorious. I was told the ones outside my condo eat mainly fruit. https://www.thainationalparks.com/species/pallass-squirrel
  13. The New York Times reported in 2020 on the bank account in China, and that it was linked to a business push there from Trump International Hotels Management. At the same time that Trump was running for reelection, he accused Democratic opponent Joe Biden of being China's so-called puppet. Biden, however, has not received income from or done business with China, per his own disclosures and returns. https://www.newsweek.com/full-list-trumps-foreign-bank-accounts-1770459
  14. When I went to school I learned that the water in a glass is not flat.
  15. How long is a piece of string. I am a qualified driving instructor and I can tell you that some people learn very fast and some take ages. At 28 years and a non driver I would hazard a guess that it would take a while. Maybe 10 to 20 hours instruction if you want any degree of competence.
  16. All ships in Australia sail upside down and they don't fall off.
  17. It's not working. More and more people are working from home and moving out of the cities. NY is in a quandary and considering what to do with office blocks. They are considering converting them into apartments or low cost housing. https://www.nbcnewyork.com/news/local/can-empty-manhattan-office-buildings-be-turned-into-apartments/3997044/
  18. Many evenings, just on sunset, I see a brown squirrel running along the power lines outside my condo building. They are called กระรอก (Grarok) by the locals. The guard told me they eat fruit. Today, my friend was visiting me and she showed me a video of her pet sugar glider. She called it a กระรอก as well but the two animals are not related. The sugar glider she had comes from eastern Australia and is a cousin of the kangaroo and the koala. It isn't endemic in Thailand but is apparently a very popular pet here. She said it eats a wide variety of food and knew that chocolate is deadly for these animals, as it is for kangaroos.
  19. That would be coffee beans pooped out by civets. He used to bring some back regularly but we stopped after the prices skyrocketed and we found out that the civets are badly mistreated.
  20. I had scabies about 18 months ago. It was like a very itchy lumpy rash on my left forearm. I went to a GP who diagnosed it immediately. The itching persisted for at least a couple of weeks after treatment, maybe longer but eventually went away. She recommended head lice cream, no prescription.
