  1. Has anyone tried to use a GMM box and a True box at the same time, via a splitter, from the same True dish?

I really want GMM sport extra. The satellite guy I know says he can do, but some channels unavailable due to the frequency. Something I find odd, as I thought they marketed it during the euros that it was on the same satellite, so no need for a new dish. One of my friends used it in the bar he had, but maybe things have changed now since channel reallocation and pay T.V introduced.

Would appreciate anyone's views on how they got on with this before I subscribe to the channels and buy a splitter.

    Many thanks.

  2. Some CTH channels are now being broadcast on a different satellite. I spoke to the media dept of the premier league when the new deal was announced. They said that CTH have obligations to forfill regarding the accessibility of EPL content. If they don't meet this the deal would be cxl. But he added that CTH were fully aware of the coverage they must supply to viewers. CTH will probably play hardball on any partnership until they are 100% sure of the coverage they can provide themselves.

  3. You can bet your bottom dollar that whatever potential deal CTH do with True, it'll be for a fraction of the games they show now. Only way CTH will make money off this deal is exclusivity. if you want the full blanket coverage for next year you'll have to get CTH installed.

  4. Back to the topic in hand. Channel 7's Bugaboo TV offers no English commentary. Watchable, but flickers on and off for a split second every few minutes. Wouldn't load at all for the start of the Saints Vs Chelsea match. Thank god for sopcast! Found an excellent Aljazeera stream. Identical quiality to what you would watch on True with English commentary,

  5. Had True internet for 3 - 4 years. Never a problem. Recently upgraded from 7 to 10MB as same price. They told me on the phone different company. Change from True on-line to True internet. Didn't think anything of it. However clearly this package seems oversubscribed. Currently getting speeds of less than 1mb! They swear blind nothing wrong at their end. Another friend is having the same issue. Anyone else having problems?

  6. "I hear that a lot, but for a relatively small town like Chiang Mai, with very diverse centers when it comes to residential areas, business areas and entertainment areas, where would you actually make a subway or monorail go?  (Not a rhetorical question, it's an interesting challenge)"

Servicing all 4 gates around the most would be a start. Heard rumours they wanna widen niman road when that new cinema/mall opens. Considering cm is the 2nd biggest city in Thailand, it is surprising it doesn't have it's own official transport network.

  7. Chill peeps! I had the same fear, so I phoned the premier league. Spoke to their press officer. I mentioned to him about CTH being cable only, compared to existing rights holders true being satellite and far more accessible, especially to those in more rural areas. He advised me that part of the contract makes it very clear of the access and exposure they expect to be given to the viewers and there are protocols in place should they fail to deliver this. I think it helps that they have a partnership to use TOT's fibre optic network. I suspect a partnership with True/RS/GMM will be announced soon to guarantee access for all. The press release I saw also stated they will show all 380 matches live.

  8. Will wait until at least end of season and see what, if any, broadcast partnership they will tie up. I suspect they will offer maximum 1/3 of the games for viewing on satellite, until they roll out there fibre optic network completely. I've already signed up with them on their customer data base via their website www.cth.co.th It's all in Thai at the moment, so just google translated. Seems they will liase with local cable companies that are part of their network; such as WETV in Chiangmai, as this is one of the question on the sign up form. Good news is they ask if you want SD or HD. Just hope they also offer the premier league channel, as John Dykes' and James Richardson's analysis is great!

  9. They did say they would launch 8 new channels. They have gone into a non exclusive partnership with TOT for use of their fibre optic network. I think we'll be fine with CTH. My only concern is if they'll launch a HD channel for the EPL coverage like true do. It's possible they could merge with someone to offer a HD service, or to maximise viewer access. Iptv could also be an option for them. I expect an announcement of their packages early new year.

  10. Statement from TRUE. Doesn't sound like they are interested in going into partnership with CTH.

  11. CTH have reportedly paid $300 million for the rights to The EPL for the next 3 years. This figure is 5 times what True had paid for the previous contract.

CTH are open to talk to other broadcasters to go into partnership with. They are expected to complete a nationwide fiber optic cable network system by February, which will provide TV, internet and phone services.

Currently CTH have around 3million subscribers through it's 300 strong local cable network. They aim to take this figure to around 7million over the course of the deal.

The CEO of CTH was interviewed on Channel 3 earlier. He assures people they will be able to access the coverage no matter where they are in the country. He mentioned at the start of the interview that they want to make it available on all platforms. Viewers with a True box would still have access to the games. He later appeared to back track by stating that broadcasters wanting to go into partnership must abide by the conditions set by CTH. They must also be careful not to violate the conditions of the contract set by the EPL. At present he was unaware of the price that would be offered to potential customers for the matches.

Although CTH expect to make an initial loss of Bht200million for the this year, it would be expected that the only way they can make a profit in the future is by offering new phone and internet packages along with its EPL coverage, as well as selling, or sub-licensing the rights to other broadcasters. Other services to be offered by CTH will be more interactive features for viewers.

One suspects that the consumer could well be the loser in all this. More than one subscription could well be required to view all the matches. It is a major task for the fiber optic network system, planned by CTH, to be fully accessible by more rural areas in time for the start of next season, meaning it is essential for CTH to form some kind of partnership with a satellite broadcaster. GMM failed to acquire a 20% stake in CTH back in August. True then claimed a strike against GMM by going into partnership with CTH, which in turn allowed CTH member companies' subscribers access to 9 of True's exclusive channels, including 3 sports channels.

  12. TRUE went into partnership with CTH in August. This gave over 300 local cable operators access to 9 True channels. This was at the same time GMM failed with a bid to take a 20% stake in the company. Even though TRUE may not have exclusivity, I suspect they will still show many matches next season. Especially as none of the other broadcaster can provide HD coverage.
