Official statement:
NBTC resolved on Euro2012 broadcast row: 1) free TV operators should televise their programmes on a non-discriminatory basis.
2) TrueVisions should ensure its subscribers can watch all content from free TV.
But this doesn't guarantee anything just yet. Ball back in True's court. GMM will want money as they are the rights broadcasters.
A source said the contract between Ch3 and GMM stated that only antenna platform will be allowed for Ch3! Not out the woods yet!
-
GMM guy just been on channel 3. Interviewer said NBTC statement has said Thai TV should continue broadcasting all its signals without biased. GMM said willing to talk with True, but have been waiting for a long time already with no response from them.
He also banged on about UEFA being concerned with the signal being stolen.
Guess we'll find out tmrw!
-
It's looking promising that games will be on True after all. Meeting isn't until tonight. Basically True will have to cough some cash to show it. Hopefully everything confirmed before the big kick off!
-
See my last post in the football forum.... Still a small chance of a solution to this.
-
NBTC called Euro 2012 broadcasters Ch3, 5, 9, involved cable operators and TrueVisions to discuss a way out on broadcast row tmrw. Fingers crossed....
GMM sport one and the Football plus channel will show the Npower Championship, J league and Bundesliga from next season.
-
That statement is just reaffirming that the only way to watch the Euros is with their box. Doesn't mention anything about antenna, but for sure you can watch this way also.
Reading between the lines, I think this is a subtle two fingered salute at TRUE!

My friend at The Nation is still awaiting a reply.... We may get a bit further by asking them on their facebook page.... They've been pretty good at answering people's questions so far.
-
Latest update is GMM will not give TRUE the signal for free. TRUE were invited by GMM to join them in the bid, but chose to ignore it.
My friend at The Nation has been trying to get some clarification on bar license issue... No one has replied yet. I have just posted on their facebook site. They've been pretty good at replying to people's questions so far. With a bit of a push from a few others this might get sorted sooner rather than later.

As soon as I know the full story I'll post it here. Seems crazy GMM can demand a license fee when the kick off times would cause bars to break their own alcohol sales licensing laws.... Hey ho.... TIT!
-
Bar owners in Chiangmai were asked 6000 for the license, although just rumours. No definite meeting with police like what happened in Pattaya.
Euro games are mainly on Channel 3... A few are on 5 and 9. The signal is blocked on TRUE as you already know for live games. The paid service is for when they start showing the Npower champ and Bundesliga next season.
I too also think TRUE are up shit creak. GMM have covered themselves against outright uproar by saying people can use a standard ariel antenna. If they do stand by their promise of English commentary then they will have done better than TRUE achieved during the world cup 2 years ago.
True's only chance is to show the games on their HD channels, they should also compensate GMM for this. Only fair to long term subscribers that they make the channel free to air for these games if that does happen.
As I've said before, my friend at The Nation has asked all these relevant questions including about bar licenses to the GMM M.D. Should get a reply soon and once I know I'll post here.
-
GMM have said via there facebook page that by selecting "audio right" from the sound settings on the box will provide English commentary.
TRUE press conference a waste of time today. Just begging GMM from blocking the signal, insisting they can encrypt it so other countries can't steal it. No reply from GMM on this issue as yet, or on the licensing issue. As soon as I hear something from my friend at The Nation I'll post it here.

Possibly Dave. If the cable company has links with CTH or COA (cable company providers) then they won't block the signal. I know WETV in Chiangmai have informed me that they can show the games without a problem, so no need for me to buy the box. Doubt they'll be English commentary. But a VPN will sort that out.
The press conference from TRUE today was a waste of time. Just TRUE begging GMM not to block the signal. They are confident they can encrypt it so the likes of Bhruma, Laos and Cambodia can't piggy back the signal. No response from GMM on this matter as yet..... They're probably waiting to sell 2 million boxes before they agree to let TRUE have it.... For sure TRUE will have to pay some money for this. Just have to wait and see!

Next season is the last season of the current TRUE contract for EPL. GMM and others are rumoured to be in the running for the bids. Last I read was a possible joint GMM and TRUE bid, but we'll see.
I'm only guessing, but maybe TRUE will show games on their HD channels. Most people in neighbouring countries won't have the HD boxes, so this might fix the problem. Let's wait and see til tmrw. GMM have promised English commentary too on their boxes.

TRUEvisions are holding a press conference tmrw morning about the situation with EURO 2012. They've kept the content of this press conference secret until then.
As far as I am aware you do not need to reposition your current TRUE set up, as GMM-Z box works on the same KU band frequency.
GMM have confirmed to me they are showing Npower champ and Bundesliga. I think you have to subscribe to their Sky 1 channels (300bht/mth) for this.
I did hear something about GMM showing matches at normal hours, not sure if these will be in full or extended highlights. Re-runs will be on GMM sport one. Live matches on Channel 3 with a few on 5 and 9.

Euros will be shown via Channels 3, 5 and 9. As it stands at the moment you need their box, or use an old fashioned ariel antenna. True are holding meetings to solve this issue. They currently will block the signal to Thai channels during live games to stop neighboring countries nicking the True signal. I think the GMM sports channel will launch soon for Euros to show highlights and support programmes. I believe Npower and Bundesliga games will be shown on GMM sport one and Football plus channels.
-
GMM confirmed they have the Npower champ and Bundesliga. It'll work on KU band, which is the same as TRUEvisions.

True didn't bid for the rights..... Or at least failed with their bid. You don't HAVE to buy the box, An old fashioned ariel antenna will also suffice.
You'll be able to watch Sheff (pigs) Wednesday on this system next season though Dave
-
Just heard TRUE holding urgent meetings about this matter. No conclusion as yet.... Watch this space.

Just heard TRUE is holding urgent meetings regarding this issue, so watch this space.

Still awaiting confirmation on bar license issue. GMM have confirmed that they will show Npower Championship and Bundesliga games on this system from next season.
-
100% confirmed that GMM will show the Npower champ and Bundesliga from next season.

It seems Pattaya police have informed bar owners that the license to show games in their bars is actually 2000bht. Can't see it being different here.
-
Signal for Thai TV blocked on TRUE systems during live games to stop neighbouring countries stealing the signal. I've been told by GMM that the box will work on any dish. So only need to buy the box.
GMM do have a website. All in Thai though. I have been informed that this company will also show the Npower Championship and Bundesliga from next season.

Exactly, don't know how this is gonna pan out. I'll know more when my friend at The Nation gets back to me.
