  1. Thai civil code: Section 1516. Grounds of action for divorce are as follows: (6) one spouse has failed to give proper maintenance and support to the other, or committed acts seriously adverse to the relationship of husband and wife to such an extent that the other has been in excessive trouble where the condition, position and cohabitation as husband and wife are taking into consideration, the latter may enter a claim for divorce;
  2. My line: Some guys have something to get out of bed in the morning for. They ran out of beer and cigarettes the night before. But I hardly do 'nothing': I am director of US-based 501c3 NGO and, while my activities have been scaled back, there is plenty of related legal stuff (generally termed as 'access to knowledge') to keep me busy.
  3. Not so easy to go "back to work" when you are retired here in Thailand vs. US. Just have to find other ways not to be bored out of your skull..
  4. As Mr. Rogers would say (or sing): You are special.

  6. No but Wilde and G.B. Shaw seem to be misattributed often to the other.
  7. J. M. Barrie wrote the comic play “The Admirable Crichton” which was first produced in 1902. ERNEST (eagerly plucking another epigram from his quiver). I knew that was it, though I don’t know everything. Agatha, I’m not young enough to know everything. https://quoteinvestigator.com/2020/10/30/young-know/
  8. Brevity is the soul of wit. -- Shakespeare. Hamlet. about 1603
  9. Maybe. We will spend 3 or 4 days apart -- but within the same province --nearly every week for now and the foreseeable future
  10. My favorite line from American Graffiti. Harrison Ford as Falfa in his first real part: Bob Falfa : Hey, hey, hey, baby. What do you say? Laurie Henderson : Don't say anything and we'll get along just fine.
  11. And all this was so your GF could not claim some sort of 'palimony'?
  12. I'm not trying to play gotcha -- just trying to understand where a scenario as you described with the 'documented' living in an empty rental apartment et al would make sense.
  13. Yes but I guess that rules out California or Louisiana.
  14. Well #2 is definitely Wilde. Source: The Happy Prince and Other Tales (1888) #1 is also attributed to George Bernard Shaw but cannot find the source for either of the 2 gents.
  15. So, basically held hostage. You'd probably give her nothing and be bitter if she left too. What a cad. So many like this. The Sin Tua law is in the Thai Civil Code. I did not write it. There is no pre-nuptial agreement. What I give her I do so because that's what I want to do. The reference to basic household expenses is also in the Thai Civil Code. And she does have a job with her family wholesale foods company.
  16. For marriage #1 anywhere, I married the much younger girl because SHE'S DIFFERENT.
