Note: Updated 5:04 PM GMT+7, July 19, 2024 -- Biden resigned as Candidate July 21 Majority of Democrats think Kamala Harris would make a good president, AP-NORC poll shows WASHINGTON (AP) — As President Joe Biden faces a growing drumbeat of pressure to drop his reelection bid, a majority of Democrats think his vice president would make a good president herself. A new poll from the AP-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research found that about 6 in 10 Democrats believe Kamala Harris would do a good job in the top slot. About 2 in 10 Democrats don’t believe she would, and another 2 in 10 say they don’t know enough to say. https://apnews.com/article/kamala-harris-poll-biden-newsom-whitmer-7ef83e5c8e510e39d7c54f7e28310064 -
It Would Be Nice to Know Who Is Running the Government

What you say above is part of it. Nancy Patricia D'Alesandro Pelosi is the daughter of a Baltimore political boss, mayor and Congressman. Winning with her is visceral. Once she decided that Biden could not win against Trump, it was all bets are off. -
Noted .Over & out.

Others have looked at videos of the explosions and said too much force for a battery explosion. And a rep of Icom said the obsolete walkie talkies have been knock-off copied for years.

No mention in NY Times, Ap, or Reuters of exploding laptops. BTW from Reuters: Several experts who spoke with Reuters said they doubted the battery alone would have been enough to cause the blasts. Paul Christensen, an expert in lithium ion battery safety at Newcastle University, said the damage seemed inconsistent with past cases of such batteries failing. "What we're talking about is a relatively small battery bursting into flames. We're not talking of a fatal explosion here...my intuition is telling me that it's highly unlikely," he said. https://www.reuters.com/world/middle-east/what-we-know-so-far-about-deadly-pager-blasts-lebanon-2024-09-17/

There are all sorts of criminal statutes on assault or even 'attempted assault' on a federal official 'cept Trump isn't a Federal official. 18 U.S. Code § 111 - Assault on a Federal Officer Just as it is a crime in California to assault a police officer or peace officer, it is a federal crime to commit any assault against a federal officer defined under 18 U.S. Code § 111. Depending on the circumstances and the severity of the alleged assault, this crime may be prosecuted as a misdemeanor or felony, with significant penalties if convicted. This federal law cover different type of offenses, such as simple assault, serious assault without a weapon, and serious assault with a dangerous or deadly weapon. https://www.thefederalcriminalattorneys.com/assault-on-a-federal-0fficer

OK just that I had read reports similar to the BBC earlier.

Why does Hezbollah use pagers? Hezbollah has relied heavily on pagers as a low-tech means of communications to try to evade location-tracking by Israel. A pager is a wireless telecommunications device that receives and displays alphanumeric or voice messages. Mobile phones have long since been abandoned as simply too vulnerable, as Israel’s assassination of the Hamas bomb-maker Yahya Ayyash demonstrated as long ago as 1996, when his phone exploded in his hand. But one Hezbollah operative told the AP news agency that the pagers were a new brand that the group had not used before. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cz04m913m49o

According to an affidavit from an FBI agent, data obtained from Routh's cellphone service provider showed that his phone was in the vicinity of the area along the Trump International tree line for about 12 hours before the encounter, from approximately 1:59 a.m. to approximately 1:31 p.m. Sunday. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/trump-assassination-attempt-investigation-ryan-wesley-routh-florida/ Updated on: September 17, 2024 / 5:12 PM EDT / CBS News

SMEX, a Lebanese digital-rights organization, told Reuters that Israel could have exploited a weakness in the device to cause it to explode. It said the pagers could also have been intercepted before reaching Hezbollah and either tampered with electronically or implanted with an explosive device. Israeli intelligence forces have previously placed explosives in personal phones to target enemies, according to prior reporting in the book "Rise and Kill First". Hackers have also demonstrated the ability to inject malicious code into personal devices, causing them to overheat and explode in some instances. https://www.reuters.com/world/middle-east/what-we-know-so-far-about-deadly-pager-blasts-lebanon-2024-09-17/

(Acting Secret Service Director Ronald) Rowe told reporters that Trump's Sunday golf outing was not announced to the public. That meant that the agency did not mount an intense security sweep beforehand, which could have signaled his imminent arrival. Trump's penchant for playing golf on his own courses, which are open to members, creates greater security challenges than past presidents like Barack Obama and Bill Clinton, who typically played on military courses that could be closed to the public, former agents say. https://www.reuters.com/world/us/new-apparent-trump-assassination-attempt-highlights-secret-service-strains-2024-09-17

Trump’s golf habit has raised alarms about security for years The open expanses of golf courses pose special security concerns for the Secret Service 09/16/2024 06:38 PM EDT The apparent assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump at his South Florida golf course on Sunday ignited longstanding concerns among security experts that Trump’s regular golf habit might make him vulnerable to assailants. Nearly every president in recent history has played golf, but the frequency and predictability of Trump’s outings have raised worries for years. Journalists and other bystanders have enjoyed unobstructed views of the former president from locations outside of the perimeter of his private country clubs — and unsecured by the Secret Service. https://www.politico.com/news/2024/09/16/trump-golf-assassination-secret-service-00179422
