The reason Judge Cannon was assigned to the Trump case and now the Routh case is that she is the only Judge in the Ft. Pierce district -- she got that appointment because, to any high-power Federal attorney in Miami, that is the district backwater. As noted in the CNN OP Judge Cannon " was randomly assigned to oversee the case, court documents show." but there is a weighting formula by location and other factors.

Even if there was no attempted assassination as charged, the engagement with or impeding of with the Secret Service agent on the 6th hole as charged in the indictment is enough to obtain a conviction noting especially: Enhanced penalty as charged -- Whoever, in the commission of any acts described in subsection (a), uses a deadly or dangerous weapon (including a weapon intended to cause death or danger but that fails to do so by reason of a defective component) ...

Unlike with the Trump case before Judge Cannon, it is at least possible that Routh will enter a guilty plea as -- also unlike Trump -- he likely cannot afford anything else. (He is currently being defended by Federal Pubic Dender office)
