Reduce taxation by gifting.
jerrymahoney replied to phetphet's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
To the 'confused' above, this published opinion: When you give something away as a gift, you are expected to relinquish all benefits from that asset. If you continue to benefit from it in any way, this is known as a ‘gift with reservation’. For tax planning purposes, it’s crucial to understand that you must not derive any benefit when gifting assets. For example, if an expat sends money from overseas to their Thai spouse and it covers their living expenses, it is not considered a gift. Attempting to bypass the tax regulations in this way is likely to be considered tax evasion, potentially resulting in severe penalties. https://www.expattaxthailand.com/gift-tax-2024/ -- You don't have to agree -- but I, at least, have not seen any published opinion to the contrary. -

I watched the gift section of the video and the gent who runs a big tax advisory service and he never says of the 2016 Gift tax revision: Yeah our big-time well-heeled clients bring in up 20 million baht each year tax free all the time. Routinely. He does say that this years tax revision was to close the 12 month provision where a foreign earner just had to wait 12 months before bringing in the funds. But he doesn't say that if someone wanted to bring in this year money earned this year, we would tell our clients to just make a gift. No problema -

I'll wait to see if the Army complies with the House incident report request. Given the 21 second campaign TikTok video taken 10 seconds at Section 60 it can be said the purpose in part was to provide political content for the Trump campaign

The Speaker does not have the right to waive Federal Law. House Oversight Commitee has requested the Army incident report by next week.

Earlier this month, Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump’s campaign contacted military officials about visiting Arlington National Cemetery to mark the third anniversary of the Islamic State bombing that killed 13 U.S. service members during the evacuation from Afghanistan. Federal law prohibits election-related activities at military cemeteries, and Arlington is the most prestigious and sacred of all. Pentagon officials were deeply concerned about the former president turning the visit into a campaign stop, but they also didn’t want to block him from coming, according to Defense Department officials and internal messages reviewed by The Washington Post. Officials said they wanted to respect the wishes of grieving family members who wanted Trump there, but at the same time were wary of Trump’s record of politicizing the military. So they laid out ground rules they hoped would wall off politics from the final resting place of those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for their nation. Instead, they got sucked into exactly the kind of crisis they were hoping to avoid. https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2024/08/28/trump-arlington-cemetery-section-60/

Somebody probably already has.

It is not within the families' purview to waive Federal Law.

Army ANC statement: "Federal law prohibits political campaign or election-related activities within Army National Military Cemeteries, to include photographers, content creators or any other persons attending for purposes, or in direct support of a partisan political candidate's campaign. Arlington National Cemetery reinforced and widely shared this law and its prohibitions with all participants."

As per this and a related topic, YES, at least as far as my participation. From the CBS link above: Meanwhile, Democratic lawmakers with the House Oversight Committee sent a letter to the U.S. Army requesting a "full account" of the incident at the cemetery. (Rep.) Raskin requested a response from ( Army Secretary Christine) Wormuth. by Sept. 9.

The Trump campaign and Arlington National Cemetery officials differ on what exactly happened. The Trump campaign said they were explicitly granted permission to bring "campaign designated media" to Section 60 of the cemetery by the Gold Star families. Messages reviewed by CBS News confirmed that the campaign was given direct permission by the families. However, the rules at Army National Military Cemeteries are dictated by federal law which prohibits any filming for partisan, political or fundraising purposes, according to Arlington National Cemetery media policies, even if there are requests by family members of the fallen. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/kamala-harris-trump-campaign-arlington-national-cemetery/

The only current issue here is whether the families and Trump brought a photo and video crew into Section 60 at Arlington when they were specifically told by cemetery staff not to do so. -- and then posting clearly political content from the result of doing so.

Well guess as you want but these grieving families have moved into the realm of political operatives. Families of service members killed during Afghanistan withdrawal criticize Biden at GOP convention Updated July 19, 2024 MILWAUKEE (AP) — Relatives of some of the 13 American service members killed during the chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan appeared on stage at the Republican National Convention Wednesday in an emotional moment that revived one of the low points of President Joe Biden’s presidency. The parents and loved ones of those service members have been in the political spotlight ever since (August 26, 2021), appearing before congressional hearings and doing news interviews. https://apnews.com/article/gold-star-families-rnc-gop-convention-b8d043475a5cb8cb7735c366ba75502d

I think their published statement yesterday that "no doubt if he (Trump) were still commander in chief, our children would be alive today.” leaves me to say I don't care.
-
I think at least some of the 13 family members have become semi-professional attack politicians based upon their speeches at the RNC convention in Milwaukee.
-
The families had the perfect right to invite Trump. Neither they nor Trump had the right to invite Trump's campaign and media team as they were well informed prior to doing so anyway.

MUST READ AND WATCH: Statement and Video Messages to Kamala Harris from Gold Star Families September 01, 2024 on https://www.donaldjtrump.com/news/2d8335e6-3b8f-498a-96df-cb3e42f22094 <SNIP> "We, the families of the brave service members who were tragically killed in the Abbey Gate bombing, are appalled by Vice President Kamala Harris’ recent attempts to politicize President Trump’s visit to Arlington National Cemetery. President Trump was invited by us, the Gold Star families, to attend the solemn ceremonies commemorating the three-year anniversary of our children's deaths. He was there to honor their sacrifice, yet Vice President Harris has disgracefully twisted this sacred moment into a political ploy. President Trump, on the other hand, has been the only Commander-in-Chief to consistently recognize the heroism of our children. His attendance at Arlington was not for political gain but to stand with us, to grieve with us, and to honor the legacy of those who gave everything for this nation. His leadership during his time in office was strong, and we have no doubt that if he were still Commander-in-Chief, our children would be alive today. BTW note in this cropped photo upper right next to the chair are 3 members of Trump's 2024 campaign staff LaCivita, Cheung (on phone) and Ms. Karoline Leavitt

Gold Star families slam Kamala Harris for 'playing politics' over Trump's visit to Arlington National Cemetery Gold Star father said that Harris' statement was 'heinous, vile and disgusting' Published August 31, 2024 10:18pm EDT <SKIP> "In keeping with the reverence and respect that is given to all members of our military that are buried there, we invited President Trump," he said. "We are the ones that asked for the video and the pictures to be taken at the tomb of the Unknown Soldier." https://www.foxnews.com/politics/gold-star-families-slam-kamala-harris-playing-politics-trumps-visit-arlington-national-cemetery -- If they only took photos/video at Tomb of the Unknown that would probably have been OK. The dust-up is the photos/video taken at Section 60 whether the families invited Trump and maybe Trump's campaign top brass (Cheung and LaCivita) or not -- as in the 21 second TikTok video taken at Section 60 linked above.

Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.), who served in the Army’s Old Guard, which provides funeral details at Arlington, also defended Trump in a statement released by the campaign on Saturday. The Arkansas Republican took aim at Army Secretary Christine Wormuth, Biden and Harris over the issue, arguing that “political apparatchiks working for the incompetent secretary of the Army disrespected the wishes of these Gold Star families.” https://www.politico.com/news/2024/08/31/harris-trump-sacred-ground-arlington-cemetery-00176950
