Fine. But as of today he is a private citizen not President. Opinion: Trump’s dangerous $600 million problem Opinion by Frida Ghitis When former President Donald Trump’s lawyers informed the court on Monday that their famously wealthy client faces “insurmountable difficulties” in raising cash for a bond to cover the massive judgment against him in the New York attorney general’s civil fraud case, Trump critics may have felt some satisfaction. Facing close to $600 million in legal judgments, Trump, who has spent decades bragging about his wealth, is facing a financial crisis. To his critics, the thinking is that any obstacle in Trump’s path puts him further from the presidency and so, makes the country safer. https://edition.cnn.com/2024/03/20/opinions/trump-bond-financial-problems-ghitis/index.html

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electoral_College_abolition_amendment Bills have been introduced in the US Congress on several occasions to amend the US Constitution to abolish or to reduce the power of the Electoral College and to provide for the direct popular election of the US president and vice president. <SKIP> On October 8, 1969, the New York Times reported that 30 state legislatures were "either certain or likely to approve a constitutional amendment embodying the direct election plan if it passes its final Congressional test in the Senate." Ratification of 38 state legislatures would have been needed for adoption. The paper also reported that six other states had yet to state a preference, six were leaning toward opposition, and eight were solidly opposed

To the above NB before Judge McAfee's ruling and quashing of indictments: Published March 11, 2024 Whatever he decides, Judge McAfee has already earned the respect of a variety of legal experts. Among them is Norman Eisen, who served as special counsel to the House Judiciary Committee during Mr. Trump’s first impeachment. Mr. Eisen has been vocal in supporting the Georgia prosecution, and has argued that there are no legal grounds to disqualify Ms. Willis. But he has also called on Mr. Wade to step down, and he defended Judge McAfee’s decision to hold hearings on the matter. “He is one of the most capable new judges that I have ever seen, and he has navigated an extremely challenging situation with grace and intelligence,” Mr. Eisen said. https://www.nytimes.com/2024/03/11/us/scott-mcafee-willis-trump-georgia-trial.html -
Panic mode sets in for Trump as he faces deadline for massive bond Updated 7:16 AM EDT, Wed March 20, 2024 Former President Donald Trump is in panic mode as the deadline approaches to secure a half-billion-dollar bond to appeal his civil fraud case in New York, according to multiple sources familiar with his thinking. As Trump and his legal team wait to see whether an appeals court will pause the judgment as he appeals it, or allow him to pay a smaller bond of $100 million, he has privately expressed opposition to any path concerning filing for bankruptcy, and it remains the least likely for now, one person familiar with the talks told CNN. In order to stop the state from enforcing the judgment, Trump has to post a bond to be held in an account pending the appellate process, which could take years to litigate. https://edition.cnn.com/2024/03/19/politics/trump-bond-deadline-panic/index.html?iid=cnn_buildContentRecirc_end_recirc

Opinion Fair’s fair: Trump should be able to appeal the judgment against him By Ruth Marcus Washington Post Associate editor March 19, 2024 at 4:07 p.m. EDT On the topic of Donald Trump’s asserted inability to scrounge the money to post bond and appeal the mega-judgment in his New York civil fraud case, by all means: Let’s enjoy a good chortle at seeing Trump hoisted on the petard of his own braggadocio about his supposedly vast wealth. Then let’s pause and consider: Is it fair to require Trump to post a bond of this magnitude to be able to appeal the judgment against him — $464 million, including interest? Look, no one more deserves to be mistreated, and no one more deserves a system rigged against him, than Trump. https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2024/03/19/trump-appeal-fraud-judgment-464-million-bond/ https://archive.is/SqISL

"As far as the Court can infer, sureties may have refused to accept defendants' specific holdings as collateral because using Mr. Trump's real estate will generally need 'a property appraisal' and his holdings are not nearly as valuable as defendants claim," (Dennis Fan, a senior assistant solicitor general for the state), wrote. Christopher Kise, an attorney for Trump, criticized James and the filing in a statement to CBS News, claiming they "misrepresent the facts and misconstrue applicable law in her political crusade against President Trump." "Today's missive does not even bother to cite New York case law. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/trump-fraud-judgment-bond-new-york-attorney-general/

From the AJC link above: Prosecutors have asked that all the defendants be tried this August. But numerous factors make such a timeline highly unlikely. -

Trump, others can appeal Fani Willis removal ruling, judge allows Judge Scott McAfee says he’ll continue work on other aspects of case 6 hours ago (20 MAR 2024 EDT) Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee on Wednesday granted permission for former President Donald Trump and seven others to appeal his recent decision that has kept District Attorney Fani Willis at the helm of the election interference case. McAfee issued a “certificate of immediate review,” which allows the defendants to appeal his ruling to the Georgia Court of Appeals before a trial begins. It will be up to the appeals court to decide whether to take up the matter. “The requested motion is granted,” the judge wrote in a short order, which also makes clear he’ll continue to work on other matters related to the case in the meantime. “The Court intends to continue addressing the many other unrelated pending pretrial motions,” he added, “regardless of whether the petition is granted within 45 days of filing, and even if any subsequent appeal is expedited by the appellate court.” https://www.ajc.com/politics/breaking-fulton-judge-allows-trump-others-to-appeal-fani-willis-removal-ruling/Z7NZGYJVXRDGDFEBMCWPSTBIEQ/ -
Ms. Habba only made comments as to Trump's wealth in an opening statement in a non-jury trial. Not testimony sworn under oath. But if this is perjury, Judge Engoron musta missed it. This page has his phone number and email. Maybe you should give him a call and let him know. https://ww2.nycourts.gov/courts/1jd/supctmanh/judicial_assignments.shtml

Forbes has estimated his wealth for decades and estimates it at $2.6 billion as of 2024, with Trump making much higher claims. Trump received gifts, loans, and inheritance from his father. His primary business has been real estate ventures, including hotels, casinos, and golf courses. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wealth_of_Donald_Trump

So what? There was no jury. And this was not a criminal trial so no guilty and no sentence. Judge in Trump's New York fraud trial explains why there's no jury By Graham Kates October 11, 2023 / 3:51 PM EDT / CBS News Former President Donald Trump did not request a jury for his New York civil fraud trial, but even if he had asked for one, the answer would've been "no," a judge said Wednesday. Judge Arthur Engoron addressed an issue that had been the subject of speculation on social media and by Trump himself, saying it "keeps coming up," even though he doesn't "read the papers or go online to read about" the trial. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/trump-trial-no-jury-fraud-new-york-judge-arthur-engoron/
