NY judge issues gag order on Trump in hush money trial
jerrymahoney replied to Social Media's topic in World News
April 1, 2024 We respectfully submit this pre-motion letter seeking leave to file a motion for recusal, pursuant to Judiciary Law § 14 and Canons 2 and 3, based on changed circumstances and newly discovered evidence. https://s3.documentcloud.org/documents/24529430/ny-v-trump-defense-recusal-20-20240402.pdf Trump's lawyers push for recusal of Judge Juan Merchan in hush money case Defense lawyers want him tossed due to his daughter's political consulting work. April 3, 2024, 4:33 AM Donald Trump's lawyers are again asking Judge Juan Merchan to recuse himself from the former president's New York hush money trial, seven months after the judge declined a similar request by defense lawyers. Defense lawyers filed a letter Monday arguing that Merchan's daughter's work for the digital consulting firm Authentic Campaigns creates an "ongoing financial interest" tied to the former president's criminal trial. https://abcnews.go.com/US/trumps-lawyers-push-recusal-judge-juan-merchan-hush/story?id=108748916 -
Donald Hankey, (Knight Specialty) chairman, confirmed to Business Insurance Tuesday that Knight Specialty provided the bond to Mr. Trump. “It was an opportunity to step in and make a little bit of money and take very little risk, so we’re happy with the transaction and happy we could help” the former president, Mr. Hankey said. Collateral was first submitted in the form of “grade-A investment-grade bonds” and then put in all-cash, he said, adding that the company was satisfied with the collateral. https://www.businessinsurance.com/article/20240402/NEWS06/912363612/Knight-Specialty-Insurance-provides-$175-million-surety-bond-for-Trump (NB Knight Specialty has A- 'very strong' A.M. Or something like "Alternative facts you can believe in." I don't know what is 'ilk'. I just thought a slogan with 2 negative words (anti-social and lies) would not be an upbeat message. Like the old Northwest airline (now Delta) ads -- do you really put wings on your heart? And I'll take the 3 like emojis to the one sad

From the same NY Times link as above: It was the collateral that prevented Mr. Trump from securing a bond for the full $454 million. Although Mr. Trump measures his net worth in the billions, much of that is drawn from the value of real estate, which bond companies typically don’t accept as collateral. While Mr. Trump had more than $350 million in cash and other liquid investments as of early this year, a New York Times analysis found, that was short of what he needed to secure the bigger bond.

The gag order is in the NY State criminal fraud trial issued by Judge Merchan. The judge in the case with the $175 million bond paid is Judge Arthur Engoron.

That is the date of the NY State criminal fraud 'hush money' trial. Nothing to do with the case in this topic.

Many details of the deal are private, but the former president most likely had to pay the company a fee and pledge cash and other liquid investments as collateral. https://www.nytimes.com/2024/04/01/nyregion/trump-bond-deal.html

I was in Bangkok recently for 5 nights and this place was close by. I really liked it Australian beef. The pizza too. https://www.royalpizza.co.th/p/beef-burger/

I am only referring to the post above post-operative issues. I had a full hip replacement in Bangkok following a hip fracture, not degenerative. 2+ years now and no pain while walking but my walk is not as frisky as before. Also slow on stairs but no pain.

Trump’s bond pauses any action that James could take against Trump’s properties in response to the judgement until at least September, when the state appeals court also set a schedule to hear his appeal of the $464 million verdict against him. https://edition.cnn.com/2024/04/01/politics/trump-bond-civil-fraud-trial/index.html?iid=cnn_buildContentRecirc_end_recirc

Trump appeals verdict finding him liable for sexual assault

And to follow-up, while the Trump appeal brief mentions the above testimony of Carroll witness Ms. Beall, the reply brief from Team Carroll, while it deals with the issue of video or no video, does not contain the word 'certain' in their discussion of Ms. Beall's testimony as in the Trump brief's: 'On cross-examination, Beall testified that she was “certain” that the store had security cameras at “all of the doors.' -
Justice Merchan's opinion apparently ignored several important points of law. For example, it seems to contradict the U.S. Supreme Court's body of cases which limit criminal fraud cases to depriving traditional property interests such as money, not something ephemeral. That's assuming there actually was an intent to defraud, because the only person whom the incorrect labeling affected was Trump himself. https://www.newsweek.com/alvin-braggs-case-against-trump-should-have-been-dismissed-opinion-1870620

A lawyer used ChatGPT to prepare a court filing. It went horribly awry. Updated on: May 29, 2023 / 5:40 PM EDT / MoneyWatch A lawyer who relied on ChatGPT to prepare a court filing on behalf of a man suing an airline is now all too familiar with the artificial intelligence tool's shortcomings — including its propensity to invent facts. While ChatGPT can be useful to professionals in numerous industries, including the legal profession, it has proved itself to be both limited and unreliable. In this case, the AI invented court cases that didn't exist, and asserted that they were real. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/lawyer-chatgpt-court-filing-avianca/

via NY Times April 1, 2024Updated 4:04 p.m. ET One question surrounding Trump Media is whether the company’s board will relax a provision that prohibited Mr. Trump from selling stock or using his shares as collateral for a loan for six months after the shares began trading. But in Monday’s filing, the company said the board made no changes in the lockup provision. That makes it unlikely Mr. Trump will rely on his stake of about 60 percent in Trump Media to help pay for the posting of a $175 million bond in connection with his appeal of a civil fraud penalty imposed by a New York state judge. https://www.nytimes.com/2024/04/01/business/trump-media-stock.html
