Trump’s 14th Amendment case reaches Supreme Court
jerrymahoney replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Hasen's final paragraph in the Slate article: The bottom line is that if and how the court rules for Trump in the disqualification case, and as it considers sending him to trial on election subversion, it needs to keep an eye on what’s going to happen in January if Trump appears to win. If there’s going to be a grand bargain, the court should not forget what Congress might do. -

Just a note as to how this all got started: Sweeney's father, a Technical Operations Controller for American Airlines, introduced him to aviation when he was young. Sweeney would use the data to track his father coming home when he commuted from Dallas back to Florida. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_Sweeney -
Your experience with SIM card routers
jerrymahoney replied to Mickeymaus's topic in IT and Computers
I bought a TP-Link 4g router with AIS sim card because my wife's family home has a nice outer building but with no WIFI from the main house. Works OK. I regularly travel within Thailand and, when using a hotel WIFI, always get the notice that the WIFI is not private and that others can maybe get the signal. So for the first time next week, even though the hotel says free in-room WIFI, I will pack the TP-Link router to use in the Bangkok hotel room with LAN cable so I don't have to set up VPN for financial info websites that I might use. And no WIFI for that. -

Taylor Swift Lawsuit Threat Has a Problem Updated Feb 09, 2024 at 11:52 AM EST But Swift's legal team has one issue, according to Frank Salzano, managing partner of Salzano Ettinger Lampert & Wilson, LLP, a boutique entertainment and sports law firm based in Manhattan. "This matter raises novel legal issues due to the fact that the college student is technically not violating any of Swift's privacy rights since the data is publicly available and is simply being posted on social media by the student," he told Newsweek in a statement. "However, it is important to note that the laws and legal precedent typically lag technological advances in society. As the law needs to play catch up, accordingly, it is possible that laws may get implemented in the future making the student's conduct illegal, but I see no viable legal theory currently that would entitle Swift to any redress." Newsweek contacted Swift's publicist via email for comment Friday. https://www.newsweek.com/taylor-swift-lawsuit-threat-problem-1868548 -
Trump’s 14th Amendment case reaches Supreme Court
jerrymahoney replied to Social Media's topic in World News
With a big if as posted above, if the 6-member conservative Supreme Court block says a major point in overturning Colorado is that the 14th Amendment Article i3 s not self-executing and can only be executed by Congress ... Then if a Democratic controlled Congress might go ahead and execute it , they can say it is because Trump's 3 appointees and the other 3 said that's how it works. -

Trump’s 14th Amendment case reaches Supreme Court

Dr. Richard Hasen, quoted elsewhere in this forum on the Trump/Carroll Defamation punitive award. A Grand Bargain Is Emerging in the Supreme Court’s Trump Cases, but Chaos May Be Ahead By Richard L. Hasen Feb 08, 20242:33 PM Depending upon how the court writes its opinion, however, it could leave the door open for chaos in January, if Donald Trump appears to win the 2024 election and a Democratic Congress rejects Electoral College votes for him on grounds he’s disqualified. If Trump appears to win the election in November and Democrats control Congress, there will be a serious effort to disqualify Trump when Electoral College votes are counted in January, something that would risk political instability and even violence. Kicking the can down the road in this way is dangerous. https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2024/02/supreme-court-trump-john-roberts-bargain.html -

Trump’s 14th Amendment case reaches Supreme Court
jerrymahoney replied to Social Media's topic in World News
The NYTimes this AM: Here are several takeaways. Colorado’s ruling appeared unlikely to stand. Well the final vote is yet to come. For me, I don't really care the outcome of all Trump's criminal and legal tribulations, although there is a group on here who seems to want to repeatedly taunt me for taking that position. I just don't want to see him elected President on Tuesday, 05 NOV 2024. -

That's OK . I coulda gone on & on (TM) but I let miss SC do it. But today is a big day at SCOTUS -- and I am hoping my former home-state ( at least for 5 years) of Colorado does what others have not been able to do. As Glinda the Witch of the South said in the Wizard of Oz: You have no power here Be gone before somebody drops a house on you, too. -

The 14th Amendment reference is that is where the Supreme Court amicus docket lists a CV of Dr,Hasen who wrote the article Are the Courts Likely to Sustain the $65 Million in Punitive Damages Awarded Against Trump in the E. Jean Carroll Defamation Case? And it seems you are not simpatico with Dr. Hasen's analysis: CV BTW as posted above on 14th Amendment docket: "Richard L. Hasen is Professor of Law and Political Science (with PhD and JD) at UCLA School of Law, where he directs the Safeguarding Democracy Project, which aims to preserve free and fair elections in the United States. Professor Hasen is an internationally recognized expert in electionlaw ..
