  1. I am the opposite to you. I spent 15 years in Ban Chang then moved to Bangkok 2 years ago. I wish I had been able to move years earlier. The only thing I miss is Rayong immigration.
  2. There are 6 new C8 for sale on one2car. All the dealers I looked at appear to be grey market importers. Only one is priced. It is 11,000,000 baht.
  3. Will Thailand follow Vietnam? https://e.vnexpress.net/news/travel/vietnam-to-stop-automatic-visa-extension-for-stranded-foreigners-4414239.html
  4. There are two grass variety's normally sold as sod in Thailand. Malaysian broad leaf and "Yeepoon" (Japanese.) There are a couple of sellers in Chatuchak market in Bangkok who sell cans of Bermuda seed which is expensive. I would not recommend growing from seed in Thailand as the results will be hit or miss i.e a lot of preparation correctly done. That is the reason seed is not common in Thailand. You need to look at the conditions before planting to dictate the correct grass. I grew a Paspalum Seashore lawn from seed which was a difficult endeavor but resulted in a fine lawn.
  5. Just read Central Hotels 3rd quarter summary report. International tourist arrivals to Thailand. 3rd Quarter 45,398 arrivals. Year to 30 Sept 85,845 arrivals. International tourist arrivals to the Maldives 3rd quarter 360,313 arrivals. (31% Indians, 13% Russian. 7% Germans.) Year to 30 Sept. 870,862 arrivals.
  6. Reminds me of 6 years ago when I did the visa runs to Vientiane with the van half full of Russian estate agents getting their STV. Playing the newbie they always offered me a house 100% in my name if I buy, or a 30+30+30 transferable lease. I think there could be a lot of people in for a shock in 25 years time.
  7. On another forum, the day Cambodia announced that they were opening, scores of people said they were off to get a Thai visa. Strangely there has been no reports as yet to success or otherwise. Of course these people thought they could nip across the border at Poipet and return
  8. In 2015 having retired from working in Thailand I was debating whether to use an elite or marriage or retirement method of stay. To tide me over I decided to get a STV from Vientiane using a visa service company. On arriving at Lotus On Nut I was shocked to see hundreds of people and twenty plus vans. I was curious as to who these people are, as they did not look like tourists. At Nong Khai there was a photo and photocopy booth set up and a constant stream of vans arriving from all over Thailand. The border opened at 0600 sharp and it was like the charge of the light brigade, but using an agent you were directed to a special office to be stamped out of Thailand. They even processed overstayers there. After Thai immigration you handed your passport to the agent and that was the last you saw of it until you re-entered Thailand, again at a special window. At the Laos side you went straight to the vans bypassing Laos customs or immigration and straight to the hotel not even visiting the embassy. I did it four times as I quite enjoyed the breaks from Thailand, but every trip the perks were reducing. In fact my last trip they had stopped the special window at the embassy so we had to queue up with the great unwased. I then discovered the non o marriage from Savannakhet. There is one thing I learned about visa runs then, was that most of the people I met and talked to were working in Thailand. This is around the time Thai immigration and the embassy in Vientiane were starting to take a harder look at people staying long term in Thailand, and I can see why. Remember there were three such trips every week!
  9. Reminds me of an acquaintance of mine who after getting his retirement extension went to Laos on holiday. After 11 months went to renew his extension to be told he was on 10 months overstay. Whose fault was this. Was it the IO upon leaving Thailand who should have told him he needed a re-entry permit, or the IO on entering telling him he had voided his extension so could only be stamped in for 30 days visa exempt?
  10. I wonder that if the Ashton project had been 100% Thai instead of a 49/51 venture with a Japanese property company things would be different.
  11. Reminds my of a quote from a salesperson in a newspaper a few years ago. "The reason our condo building sold out in 2 days is that it is one of the very few freehold condos available in central Bangkok. The majority in central Bangkok are build on leasehold land".
  12. I was watching a video of a UK Japanese car show featuring cars from the 70's 80's and 90's. Having lived in Thailand during this period I was amazed to see cars that I had never knew existed. I did some research on the current Toyota Corolla range. First surprise was that it is available in hatchback, estate and two saloon versions. The saloon available in Thailand is the Prestige but there is another completely different version called the Sport which is larger and is designed to fit in to the C+ market as larger than the standard Corolla but smaller than the Camry. Corollas are available in 9 different petrol engines ranging from a 1.2 liter turbocharged to a 2 liter as used in the Camry. Plus a 85% ethanol engine and a Hybrid system as used in the Prius. Toyota Yaris as sold in Asean markets are based on the XP 150 released in 2013. All other markets use the XP 250 designed in 2020. Thailand also produced the 3 liter V6 petrol Fortuner for the SA market. Why did they never sell them locally? To the OP the Yaris GR is also available in the Malaysian market. Perhaps after the borders open you could bring it in under a temporary import. Toyota GR Yaris launched in Malaysia – WRC special with 261 PS 1.6L turbo, AWD, 6-speed manual, RM299k
  13. This is from the NHS treatment and care of TB patients. What is different from the Thai treatment you received. The usual treatment is: 2 antibiotics (isoniazid and rifampicin) for 6 months 2 additional antibiotics (pyrazinamide and ethambutol) for the first 2 months of the 6-month treatment period It may be several weeks before you start to feel better. The exact length of time will depend on your overall health and the severity of your TB. After taking antibiotics for 2 weeks, most people are no longer infectious and feel better. However, it's important to continue taking your medicine exactly as prescribed and to complete the whole course of antibiotics. Taking medication for 6 months is the best way to ensure the TB bacteria are killed. If you stop taking your antibiotics before you complete the course or you skip a dose, the TB infection may become resistant to the antibiotics. This is potentially serious because it can be difficult to treat and will require a longer course of treatment with different, and possibly more toxic, therapies. If you find it difficult to take your medicine every day, your treatment team can work with you to find a solution. This may include having regular contact with your treatment team at home, at the treatment clinic, or somewhere else that's more convenient. If treatment is completed correctly, you should not need any further checks by a TB specialist afterwards. You may be given advice about spotting signs that the illness has returned, although this is rare.
  14. Can anyone confirm that the Covid extension has been extended to the 31 December. According to members of the colorful forum it has been noted on farcebook. My German buddy went last week to obtain a new Covid extension and was told this will be the last, and to make arrangements to transfer 800.000 baht and start the process for a retirement extension if he wishes to stay. Rayong office.
  15. In the UK it has had a knock on effect with used cars. In the last three months used car prices have risen by 27% on average.
  16. From Chinese state media 3 Nov 21 Chinese tourists may be able to travel abroad by the end of next year, said Zhong Nanshan, China's top epidemiologist, when answering a question from CGTN anchor Liu Xin regarding new developments in the COVID-19 pandemic and any light at the end of the tunnel.
  17. Went there 1 year before Covid. Used an agent, submitted passport on Monday received visa on Friday afternoon. Agent told me I was lucky as they were clamping down on people with multiple visas in passport.
  18. As my old dad used to say "Locks only keep honest people out"
  19. In the last couple of months I noticed my andriod box freezes. The download bar is still active so it is not a internet problem. I then realized it is only happening with 4K programs. As the box is 5 years old I assume the processing power is no longer sufficient.
  20. After the borders reopening is announced how long will you wait before chancing it. Sods law dictates that Thailand will re-close the borders just as I arrive in Laos.

  22. I use the following as a screenshot to highlight one of the major problems at Thai airways. They had a Boeing777 ETOPS, a plane that is designed to fly reliably over large areas of open water. For 16 years that plane flew Bangkok Phuket Bangkok twice a day. The plane was sold to a German freighter conversion company in 2019. The MD of the company could not believe that the aircraft only had a flight utilization time of 39%. To put that into context some US carriers can get high 80's to low 90's utilization. Thai airways have lots of aircraft that few around 40 to 50 percent pre covid.
  23. When I did my last extension on a Monday there were 40 people waiting, surprised to see only 5 westerners. The rest mostly had Chinese or Japanese passports. Curiously the first 15 queue numbers all went to people using an agent.
  24. My niece in the UK has a business exporting British shellfish. Last year a reefer container UK/Japan, which is her biggest market, was 3100 pounds. Cheapest quote last week was 14300 pounds. Maybe this is one reason for the frozen meal being so expensive.
