  1. As others have said, just ask them. If the lady is a ladyboy, she will tell you. On the other hand, if she is really a lady, she may feel a bit insulted that you couldn't tell!
  2. The 538 results are based on averaged polling numbers from a wide variety of sources. The current numbers are 52% to 48% in favor of Biden, but they change all the time. Here is a graph showing the numbers over time. I am going to stick with my previous guess: Biden will win the popular vote, probably by at least 500,00 votes, but Trump will will the Electoral Vote.
  3. It's interesting that the European 'Right' is pretty closely aligned with US Democrats in the positions mentioned above. They really only differ in their views on immigration. The US right wing, on the other hand, fits the description above perfectly!
  4. If you have an advanced degree in a specialized subject that is in demand here, you can get excellent pay and working conditions. I had a friend with a MA in Hotel Management who was very happy and well-paid at his university. However, for a standard English teacher with no special qualifications, you are better off teaching younger students.
  5. After months of inactivity the TCT has announced that the 7 modules are back! My school recently go this from the TCT. I haven't read it in detail, as I already have a Teaching License, but I thought that some teachers here might be interested. Rule of KSP.pdf
  6. There are an average of about 60 people dying on the roads in Thailand EVERY DAY. I don't know what makes some deaths newsworthy than others, because this was a very typical accident - it involved an underaged rider on a motorcycle, a combination that is statistically over-represented in traffic fatalities.
  7. Anuwat is the suspected killer. Benjarat is the victim.
  8. Years ago a Thai man, a middle class office worker, asked me why foreigners liked dark-skinned women. I don't think that there is much jealousy as we generally don't admire the same type of women as Thai men do.
  9. I've only taken the airport rail link a few times, but I noticed that it was run like an old-fashioned train, with a train running every 15 or 20 minutes according to a strict schedule. I think that it would be much more useful to run it like the BTS or MRT, with a train every 5 minutes.
  10. I have been in favor of a two state solution for many years (though for some reason the presidents of USA and Israel have never called up me up and asked for my opinion!). However, I do believe that the new state of Palestine would almost immediately go through a civil war and might actually split into 2 or 3 defacto mini-states.
  11. Well, it's pretty obvious that it would be Paetongtarn's turn next... until she is ousted and has to go into exile!
  12. I know a couple of guys who signed up for it... It has been inactive/suspended/still in the planning stage for almost a year. I don't know if you actually can sign up for it now. Here is a link to the TCT website, the English version seems to be gone, so you will need a fluent Thai speaker to help you navigate it to see if there are any updates there. TCT Website
  13. Trump tried to weaponize the DOJ during his first term, but Bill Barr wasn't about to go along with any illegal actions. The only way Trump can weaponize the DOJ during his second term is if he can get an Attorney General who is more loyal to Trump than to the Constitution confirmed by the Senate. If, of course, the Republicans win the senate, just about anything becomes possible!
  14. Dark side of the Moon? Unless it happens to be night time, there is no "Dark Side", they should have said "Far Side". The Far Side faces away from the Earth, but it experiences the same one month long day/night cycle that the near side does!
  15. A real man can answer this question: Black and Decker or Makita?
  16. You have been teaching at this school for 4 years and this is the first time that they have deducted for a public holiday? Check your contract first, but has anything changed at your school? For instance is there a new director or a new head of finance? This could just be a misunderstanding or error, so I would confirm that they really are deducting for a public holiday before kicking up a fuss.
  17. A few years ago all of the P6 homeroom teachers decided to start collecting the student's cell phones every morning and returning them after the last class of the day. This proved to be a success and the practice spread to other grades. This year the school simply announced a no-phones policy and told the parents before the year began. It hasn't interfered with teaching at all and has made everyone's life much easier. If the parents need to contact a student urgently, they can call the Thai Homeroom teacher's Line, but as far as I know, not one parent has really needed to do so.
  18. Back in California, motorcycles under 200cc cannot go on the highway, but bikes over 200cc can go anywhere a car can go. In Thailand all motorcycles are legally the same, whether they are tiny mopeds or giant Harleys!
  19. OK, I am confused. In THIS thread: https://aseannow.com/topic/1328540-reduction-in-number-of-non-immigrant-visa-types-from-sep-2024/ the government announces that they are going to cancel all of the extra visa types and just keep 7 visa types active. Meanwhile everyone in THIS thread is still discussing all of the details of the visas that were announced last week. So which is it? Do we still have a bunch of new visa categories or have they all been cancelled?
  20. When I saw the "Heiress" in the title I thought that it was about Boss's sister, but she actually married into a family that is above 'defamation'!
  21. That video actually looks more like a shot of an earthquake than an arrest. I was getting vertigo just watching it!
  22. The highest birth rates in the word today are in Somalia and Afghanistan.... two of the most miserable and backwards countries on Earth!
  23. 10% per day???? The normal rate is 10% per month.
  24. Sciatica is another possibility, though the pain is usually in a hip, not the lower back. I had a bad case of sciatica in my right hip, acupuncture an ibuprofen didn't really help, so I just stretched a lot and walked as far as I could every day and after 6 months I was able to walk a full 5 miles without pain again.
