TL;dr - If you are on Win 10, no rush to upgrade. Microsoft will provide support until 2025. There's nothing that's a must-have in Win 11 you need right now. I use Win 10 (work) and Win 11 (home) not too much of a difference from either day-to-day tasks. Gaming sees a slight improvement, but won't be noticeable for most. If you have an HDR monitor, Win 11's auto HDR feature and general HDR tweaks makes games look better. If you don't game, or you game and don't are about those features, there's no real difference. What was going to be Win 11-only gaming enhancements are now coming to Win 10 (direct storage, HDR and other gaming-related tweaks). These features are in the current Win 10 Insider's Program. Running Android apps on Win 11 is okay, but if you don't use Android you most likely won't care. Win 11 does have some UI inconsistencies and a few hiccups, so user beware.

Is a 6-month visa possible?

I will definitely look into that. I don't mind being reimbursed since I do expense reports monthly as it is. -
Is a 6-month visa possible?
HappyGoLuckyLife replied to HappyGoLuckyLife's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Good point. I would have to do some research on that since I wouldn't be working for a company based in Thailand. I also am a private person for the most part and not one to talk much about what I do. Also, I would be working strictly from home as not draw any unneeded attention. Fingers crossed on this one. -
Is a 6-month visa possible?

Thanks for this. I figured my insurance would be worthless outside the country and was going to pick up insurance through AXA or something along those lines. But it didn't dawn on me just pick up travel insurance since I would be going back and forth. -

That part I was clear on. I assumed that clock would continue to run thought the reporting clock would stop when exiting. -

That's awesome to hear! Looks like that will be the route I take. Thanks for responding. -
Hey all! While my wife and I are looking to move to Thailand this year in November, my employer presented me with an interesting offer for me to consider. He would be willing agree to my living abroad 6 months out of the year and 6 months onsite in the States. Of course this all hinges on either a) is there a 6-month visa available, or b) is it possible to have a 1-year extension of stay based on marriage to a Thai national (but only staying 6 months in country each year). If possible, I would love to take advantage of the offer as my primary duties (maintaining org social media accounts, website, building small applications to use in-house, along with gathering data for our annual fiscal reports) allow me to work remotely. With Thailand's great internet and use of the company VPN, I don't see a problem with working from my home in Thailand for the 6 months I'm there. Any info would be helpful.

The 24 Year Old Newfag Farang

If we're breaking if down like this (because the discussion is SSD vs HDD) then you look at it this way: The processor is where stuff gets done RAM allows you to do more stuff simultaneously. SSD (or in my case NVMe) is how fast stuff can be accessed by the RAM and processor. Now, if you used your excess RAM to create a RAM Disk (where you can actually store data) then it would be faster than SSD or NVMe. Just don't turn off the power while using it or your data is toast.

Let's see a new HDD read at 7GB and write at 5GB like my Samsung 980 pro.

Just to give everyone an update of where we are as of 1/5/2022: Wife now has Thai passport. (5-year instead of 10-year since this is her first passport.) Have everything needed for get US marriage cert authenticated. Unfortunately, I'm going to need to mail everything to Office of Authentications since they suspended walk-in appointments due to Covid. Once we get that done, we'll get the authenticated marriage certificate translated. Then it's back to New York to the Thai Consulate. They will put the marriage info in their system. When we do go to Thailand later this year, we will need to go to our local Amphur's office to get our Thai marriage license. To be continued...

Telling her to walk out doesn't sound like a sound choice to make. With fears and tensions mounting across the globe as well as in Thailand, the last thing you need is your wife to be made an example of. Ride it out. Take the 1-2 day hit and pay for the retest. If negative great. If positive, then ask about the options.

How to convert URLs into shortcode for WordPress site?
HappyGoLuckyLife replied to mxpweb's topic in IT and Computers
We like bitly to shorten URLs. They also a WordPress plugin. Check it out Bitly's WordPress Plugin – WordPress plugin | WordPress.org -
I agree with many of the statements. Should things go wrong with the laptop, you're going to find it hard to get parts for it. Yeah, it has the cool factor, but there are plenty of laptops with better specs for lower prices. Lenovo makes awesome laptops. I have both the T480s and the Legion 7 gaming laptops. Both are a breeze to upgrade/repair, though I have not needed repairs on either.

Sounds like you plan to have some fun! Good luck and happy building.

Don't know. Never felt the need to have a pissing contest to prove my manhood. When there's things to do, or business to handle, I do it and go about my business. No need for me to flex.

Transgender people denied equal rights: HRW report
HappyGoLuckyLife replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I think most people are looking to be treated with respect and with some sort of dignity. Yes, I imagine it's stressful if you're hearing "that's a dude" when you're not the most passable female presenting out in public. Some people are less worried about passing and just want to be respected for who they are. Yeah, do some people get spicy and insist on being called sir, mam, they, etc? I'm sure. But I also look at what they have to deal with every day and have made the conscious decision not to be a part of their daily stress. -
Transgender people denied equal rights: HRW report
HappyGoLuckyLife replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Speaking for myself it comes down to basic respect. A part of the community seeking equal rights/protections are not being respected. They can work in the entertainment and sex industry but are forces to conform to a gender identity that doesn't align with who they are as people. I don't care how a person appears to me. If in meeting them they prefer a certain pronoun, so be it. It's not for me to impose my beliefs onto them. It is for me to follow a simple rule of treating people as I wish to be treated. -

So do we equate that if a woman wants to wear pants she must be a lesbian? What century are you from? -
We're moving to Thailand next November. We've moved our assets to Fidelity as they allow for international banking. As an expat, you can't do a few things like purchase mutual funds, and some other similar investment things, but you can set up a cash account, purchase ETFs, deposit into you IRAs, etc. Will be able to contact them from my Thai number. Same with Wise. I am going to pick up a cheap t-mobile prepaid account and throw some money on it to have a US number in case of emergencies. Their international rates aren't bad for the occasional business call.

Eating at a caloric deficit, which many have mentioned. But honestly, it may come down to your genetics.

Banks where again? Oh, in YOUR country. Supposing anything is the same in Thailand or any other country is a classic mistake we all make. Do yourself a favor, install a scanner app on your phone, take pics of important docs, and upload them to Google Drive (or another free service). Then the oly person you have to rely on is yourself.
