I will be getting married after  getting affidavit from Bangkok.

I will come into Thailand in the New Year, maybe Visa Exempt then looking for long term stay.

The Bank account seems to be the problem. Information from Bangkok Bank was.

    1. Passport 2. Letter from Embassy. 3. Pink i.d card.

Number 2 could be copy of passport certified which isn't a problem. But I don't think they will issue a letter of recommendation.

Tried quite a few banks first off was told Bangkok bank were quite amenable no joy, even the pink bank and the purple bank (both of which the Mrs had an account with) they wanted all sorts from granny's maiden name to granddad's inside leg I finally tried KBank (Loei) they couldn't have been more helpful just needed my passport I have heard it sometimes depends on the branch etc but as i said they were really helpful

    Anyway good luck

  2. Hi all

My daughter works for a UK bank and has recently sent money to my Kbank account in 2 different ways the first as Thai baht which took 3 days and comes up as a Bahtnet deposit automatic transfer on my Kbank app, the second was sent as a sterling transaction which arrived in 1 day and comes up as a Trade Finance deposit on the Kbank app does anyone know if these terms signify a deposit from an overseas source as required for visa extensions ? not sure about the charges incurred with the transactions only that i wasn't charged by the UK bank.

Thanks in advance for any help

I don't know what meds you need but I have some for high blood pressure and high cholesterol and have had to get some in Thailand. A couple of them had to be swapped due the hospital not having the ones I have in the UK. I checked with the doctor when I got back and they were ok.

I'm over 60 so I get free prescriptions in the UK but if I were comparing the prices in Thailand to the prescription charges in the UK they would be cheaper.

Yeah I'm over 60 and type 2 with high bp so my prescriptions are free in the UK but i need insulin which i would have to return home for or get here in Thailand just trying to get all the info i can especially as Thailand is now on the UK Red list, did you get your meds at the pharmacy or the hospital ?

They have to be Thai FDA approved.   If it gets past Customs, it will be delivered, door to door, by which ever postal service you paid for (isn't 'Special Delivery' UK only?).   If there is import duty to be paid you will have to collect it from your local delivery office.

Thanks for that, I meant that sending from the UK using special delivery would stop being special when it arrived at Bangkok and would therefor revert to ordinary post, I might try and price up DHL or another courier I am assuming if I can get the meds i need in Thailand they would be FDA approved ?

  5. Hi All

Many thanks for the swift response,

At present I am doing another 14 day quarantine in the village after arriving from my 14 day quarantine in Bangkok I cant leave my house until the 17th July.

My girlfriend inquired at the local branch of the government savings bank (where she has an account and where i send money to her every month) and was told  I need either a work permit or a marriage certificate to open an account, I have heard that the Bangkok bank maybe the easier option ?

I have the 800,000 baht ready to deposit in a Thai bank account my worry is getting it processed in time (15 days remaining on the 60 day entry for the tourist visa) as my tourist visa runs out on 16th August.

Is it still possible to do a visa run to Laos ? or do the covid restrictions prevent this.

The reason i asked about the Agent / Legal firm was their familiarization with the rules at a local level and the amount of time i have to get it all processed, i  would be happy to pay for this service this time as I have never done it before.

  6. Hi All

I have just completed quarantine in Bangkok and am now living in Loei Province, I used a legal firm to help with my COE and TV prior to coming to Thailand (which went really smoothly) they were then going to convert the tourist visa open a bank account etc. They have now said they cannot assist me with opening a Thai bank account or my extension to a Non O then a retirement visa as i dont live in Bangkok (I have recently retired and want to settle in Thailand whilst making regular trips home to the UK)  does anyone know of any companies that could assist me ? which would be the best bank to open an account ? Is the process as daunting as it seems ? I have a Thai girlfriend and a Son but am not married.

Thanks in advance for any help
