Has the world gone woke or mad
GammaGlobulin replied to georgegeorgia's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Yes: Mad and Woke Can you blame them? Slavery is a terrible thing. And, America has been paying the price for its sin of slavery, during the past two-hundred years. I think that probably Lyndon Johnson knew much about slavery, and how slavery can tear apart any country. Johnson was from Texas, after all. But, it's all about STEAM CONTROL, as Tom Wolfe said. You gotta know how to control the steam. And, sometimes you just can't control the steam, and then, you see things like the Watts riots... It's all about Steam Control. It's all about what Lead Belly was singing about.... It's all about: Jumpin' Down and Pickin' Cotton Slavery is not only wrong. But, past sins will always come back to haunt. There will always come the day when you can no longer control the steam. And, maybe, now is the day. -

Now, you begin asking me this question, what has happened? -
What low/medium price wine do you recommend.
GammaGlobulin replied to YorkshireTyke's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
I'm not sure why more people don't consider Hungary to be a reliable producer of wine which is decent quality at a reasonable price. -

Mickey Mantle could drink a case, sometimes a slab, of beer, every night. His liver could not. -
So unfortunately, someday soon, maybe not tomorrow, but soon.... Realpolitik will hit us in the eye like a big pizza pie. And then, we will have no choice but to take sides, either Hollywood or Bollywood...of Bombay. The cultures of Bollywood and Chinawood are anathema to the free world. Make no mistake. Geopolitical Lines are already being drawn. After a generation and a half, since 1985, we are now entering a new age of a very divided world. Will you side with Hollywood? Or, do you prefer never-ending Bollywood and Chinawood...?

Thank you for your reply. Concerning "taste" in music, or tasteful music, there is no such thing. Probably, there is no bad music if there is at least one person among us who appreciates bad music. Previn was willing to try new things. The Shankar-Previn "album" seemed amazing to me 50 years ago. For a time, this "album" had not been seen on YouTube, until it finally was, a few years ago. I did not upload it to YT,... Just because, I do not support YouTube. The only internet site I support is ThaiVisa. I am also completely apolitical. I am neither a traditionalist or a progressive. Still, one thing that has affected my world view is my experiences with Call Centers in Mumbai. Too many calls to Mumbai has left me with no appetite for Lamb Vindaloo, wherever I smell it. I have heard it said that the Call Centers in Mumbai may be a security risk. This is why I would never invite a Mumbai Call Center guy to run my kitchen, no matter how much I loved authentic Vindaloo. Bombay is not what it once was, some might say, alas.

Are you asking if there is any justification for the usage of the word "normalcy" in this day and age? I would answer you, "no". We are not now in a state of normalcy, and probably have never even been in one. If we ever had been in such a state, which is doubtful, then it would probably have been most dreadful. Normalcy suggests a steady-state theory, and the universe is expanding, obviously. Therefore, as you correctly point out, there can be no state of normalcy in a universe which is not only expanding, but a universe which is characterized by an accelerating expansion. Unless you are OK with change, then you will never be happy here, one can predict.

My dentists here and elsewhere have never provided me with laughing gas. I have had several bouts of root canal therapy. Yet never a whiff of nitrous oxide gas have I enjoyed. If the sound of the drill bugs you, then just don a pair of expensive headphones, and crank up the volume. Wear some shades, or ask for a pair from the assistant. As to the best music for root canal therapy, the complete album of Led Zeppelin's "In Through The Out Door" is a winner. Also, if possible, find a dentist with small hands.
-
Normally, the dentist will suggest a fluoride treatment if she deems it warranted. Typically, the fluoride gel is applied to a plastic piece which fits inside the mouth and which conforms to the shape of the teeth. This treatment is completed within about two or three minutes. Visit any dentist and it's no big deal. Dentists are our friends, not our enemies.
-
If your dentist is good, then she will recommend a fluoride treatment in her office (when needed). Your dentist is not your enemy.
-
Please don't seek dental therapy advice from ThaiVisa guys. Too many here have probably lost their teeth from not consulting a top-notch dental clinic early enough in the game. Still, if your endodontist advises you to go for root-canal therapy and a crown, then go for it. If your dentist believes that she cannot salvage the tooth, then go for an implant, and crown. It's not always easy to find the dentist best for your needs. But, it's always worth the effort to search. Peerless dental care does not come cheap. If money is not a consideration, then you might wish to fly to the USA. Maybe Hollywood, because most film stars in Hollywood seem to have good-looking teeth. Also, take time to find the best dentists in Thailand. Contact your local university for a potential referral. Money talks. Nobody walks. There is great dental care here if you are smart enough, and wealthy enough, to access it.

600,000 baht for 12 months

You can certainly count on 3 degrees C of global warming by 2100, if you are lucky. It's not a guess. Rather, it's a trend. -

Unfortunately, if we add 2 degrees C, which now seems almost inevitable, then you will not be able to enjoy your 36Cs for very much longer. Therefore, gather ye rosebuds while ye may... -
600,000 baht for 12 months

It all depends upon what you might believe your purpose here might be. If you believe that your purpose here on planet Earth is to sail yachts all day long, then you will require more money. -
600,000 baht for 12 months
GammaGlobulin replied to georgegeorgia's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
I am just grateful that, no matter how much I might spend, I have enough to eat, a bed to sleep, and an 8000-watt shower to keep me feeling fresh. For me, pleasure in life boils down to: a. Not feeling hungry. b. Not feeling dirty. c. Not feeling either too cold or too hot. d. Having something to read in order to divert my attention from the impending Armageddon. e. Dreaming about past loves of my life, in detail. f. Listening to the pigeons cooing around here, almost incessantly. What more could one ask from life? -
ATM ate my card and locked up

Very soon... Credit cards/Debit cards will become a thing of the past. As has been stated above, and as is now true in China... Just use your phone to do everything (almost everything). -
Not sure whether or not most guys understand what might be happening in this world, these days. Not talking about any sort of culture war, and, for that matter, who believes in culture wars, anyway? Still, there exist a few realities that some guys from the UK may not overly much care about. I'm just mentioning the difference between.. and... Not sure what is happening these days with the many recent PM changes in the UK...but.. This guy Sumac is .... Even Calamine Lotion may not be enough to cure this.
