  1. Global markets were barely affected, but we will see, I would assume stocks dependant on China growth and anything tied to Everglades situation directly to be affected.
  2. meh not too worried, was mainly concerned about the effect on the stock market, im not invested in any china stocks or stocks involving china though but worried it'd trickle, i know a guy who has sources in china, said government will keep the issue in china but will effect growth, hope hes right
  3. I was also surprised by some of the prices for things here, pretty much similar to prices in Canada, I have no clue who would actually pay those prices in Thailand. Probably foreigners starting business' hoping they can charge the same prices in other countries, I wonder if the business is any good. Living expenses, food (if bought at the right places), internet/mobile service, are all fairly cheap. I only about 30% compared to what I would in Canada living the same lifestyle so I am happy.
  4. seems like thats the norm here, i eventually did find one and yes I did send the booking fee to the agent before signing a contract I made sure to get the agents company, proof of ownership (from the owner) and it was a new condo in pleonchit and I was able to verify with the juristic the owner of the unit. Figured the likely hood of it being a scam was slim. I was lucky enough to get a good landlord, communication has been great and she is very nice Personally, I'd avoid agents asking you to send money to different bank accounts/receivers or landlords that aren't in thailand/overseas. I've met the landlord 2-3x, and any questions or complains she answers/resolves quickly. If I rent again the main things I will be looking for 1) is the unit taken care of/did the landlord cheap out on stuff like furniture/tv/brands of appliances, I noticed the ones with cheap stuff usually have landlords that don't care about anything 2) if the landlord can speak english/can meet in person 3) if the agent works for a company vs freelance If the agent is nice, the landlord is nice, and unit has good furniture/good quality brand appliances, at least from what I observed it's usually a tell tale sign the landlord isn't trying to screw you over. Any slightest bit of hesitation from the agent/owner to provide proof of ownership/the owners bank account info to receive funds and I won't rent from them.
  5. I'm not a real estate guy but this has been all over the news for a week now, surprised no thread about it and thought i'd start one to see peoples thoughts on how it'll affect global markets
  6. I haven't tried tim hortons yet but i'll have to give it a shot now that you've mentioned its better, hard to when theres dunkin donuts and krispy kreme haha, tim hortons is always on the flash deals for grab I didn't really try the burgers yet from mcdonalds, mainly oreo pie's/nuggets/fried chicken, a 10 piece nugget combo in canada is like $10+ with taxes, absolutely absurd how much mcnuggets cost in canada.
  7. lots of condos have them now in bangkok, even cheaper condos but not plentiful, few chargers in the garage, I can't imagine how people will charge their EV's if theres only a few chargers in the condo garage and a bunch of people have EV's
  8. typical meal at fast food is $10-$15 in canada for 1 person, ie big mac combo
  9. I've found all the fast food to taste better in Thailand than in Canada and is way cheaper too. Mcdonalds, KFC, pizza hut, burger king, but have yet to try tacobell since I don't really like anything there.
  10. I think I agree, I was way far out from central bangkok so I didn’t really have the time to keep going to central bangkok but that would have been the optimal thing to do. I settled on pleonchit for now, mainly because the condo was one of the only ones with their gym open. Area is quite nice and everything is new/modern which is a plus, very quiet and isn’t crowded. Once things open up I’ll see if it’s worth moving. Asoke would have been my next option but it’s a bit crowded and older. One con about living in pleonchit is it’s a bit less convenient, I think chidlom or Siam would have been better, but not many new condos in that area.
  11. big bike, half the reason to ride a motorcycle is for the fun of it
  12. 17 is more than old enough to have known this was a scam the second you start accepting this to be okay/normal to fall for this, is when no one will ever learn. she was 17, should have known better, I have no remorse for someone who gave their money to some person promising them 20% daily returns, that was simply greed + being careless.
  13. I think most people that have drinking problems are bitter and not the other way around haha Lots of reasons to be bitter and old, I know plenty, some drink, some are just mad all the time because they are constipated
  14. Im from Canada so I'm not too familiar with the anti-vaxxers being so common, but from what I see from friends/locals, most Thai's are very willing to get vaccines.
  15. i will check out true, AIS 5G signal has been wonky, full bars getting 16mbps sometimes which is ridiculously slow and their customer service is quick to respond but poor in quality.
  16. haha, those days are long gone, i think the human race evolution has peaked and is slowly reversing
  17. wow, worth the money? or is it more of a money grab?
  18. I find there is generally two types of old people, those who are bitter and those who are the kindest people you'll ever meet. When you're old and have the thought of knowing you'll be dead soon, it changes people, for the better or for the worse
  19. wow thanks a lot, i'll definitely check that out as well, theres a shuttle from my condo that goes to central chidlom, which saves me the walk there. Any chance central chidlom or central embassy has alcohol for sale? would be nice to kill two bird with one stone
  20. I'll try tops all seasons place as its right down the road Is central chidlom food hall like a food court? I went to central embassy the other day and it was mainly just luxury clothing stores Just wondering is tops or villa market more likely to have it?
