Surely it should be 15%? SCB told me the tax deduction was 100% last month because they were collecting taxes on the 20K of interest I already received in June and October. Hopefully at the end of this month the tax deduction will be a lot lower.

I follow this thread because I'm interested in EVs and I occasionally "chime in" to set the record straight when people like you try to compare apples with oranges and refuse to even consider the disadvantages of an EV. You seem unwilling to enter into a balanced discussion weighing the pros and cons and you always try to cherry pick your figures like solar charging, top spec ICE price compared to lowest spec EV price etc. to support your arguments.

I'm all for EVs but those figures are too pitiful for a primary car. When they start selling MG 4 specs for the Neta V price then I'll bite if I can solve the charging problem from living in a Bangkok condo. It seems like convenient public chargers in malls overcharge and I don't fancy sitting at a gas station for 30 minutes once a week.

฿549k is for the CVT transmission and I think most buyers will not be going for the top end or they would be looking at other cars. Buying petrol is still a lot more convenient than charging for most people.

I'll admit the Neta V does look quite nice, if a bit narrow, but it's definitely a city car. It would be quite a pain on longer trips with the small battery and slow charging speed so unless I had 2 cars I'd prefer the ATIV regardless of build quality.

I see your point but you are comparing a 6 year old Mazda with a brand new BYD. And the 300k price difference is quite significant. I estimate you would need to drive around 200-300k km before you start saving money on fuel as the Yaris ATIV has really good fuel economy. (Advertised 23.3km/L, tested around 19 km/L on average.)

It's still hard to beat the value for money of a Toyota Yaris ATIV for 549,000 which is the top selling car in Thailand for a reason. The only Chinese EV that can compete on price is the Neta V but that doesn't seem like a proper car to me and it might start falling apart in 5 to 10 years.

Yes I have gone over it. I just assumed I would only need to pay tax on the excess but apparently not.

I work in Thailand and pay income tax. I have given them my TIN and previously they haven't deducted any tax until this month. For November they deducted 100% of my interest as tax and when I called them, they said it's because I have to pay tax on all of the interest I have already received this year.

My bank (SCB) told me if you earn over 20,000 baht in interest you have to pay 15% tax on the whole amount, not just the amount that's over 20,000. Does anyone know if this is correct? So someone who earns 20,000 exactly pays no tax and someone who earns 20,001 pays 3,000 in tax....seems unfair 🤔.

I'm guessing there are no 350kW public chargers in Thailand? That would solve the problem of condo living with no charging at home.

I gave them my tax ID last year and they haven't deducted any tax until now. I'm still working and I'm over the 20,000 tax free interest limit so maybe they are deducting back taxes or something. I'll call them tomorrow for an explanation.

Same thing happened to me last month and no tax deducted. This month however I just received my interest at midnight on 25th and then it was all immediately deducted as tax! 100% tax! I thought savings interest is supposed to be taxed at 15%? Did anyone else check their statement yet?

They have said this several times before but it never happened as the BMA doesn't have the legal authority to set the fares since the extensions pass through Samut Prakarn and Pathum Thani provinces. Like most announcements in Thailand, take it with a pinch of salt.

I thought the same. Maybe they don't have qualified technicians or the parts available in Thailand as presumably the batteries are assembled in China.

The first link is actually a BYD Atto 3 battery where rats chewed a hole in the plastic cover and the repair bill was nearly 700k THB. This happened in Thailand and it was covered by the insurance in this case...expect insurance premiums to go up if this happens more often.

The 'espresso' pods that came with the machine don't taste like espresso at all but more like drip coffee. They don't have the body or mouthfeel of real espresso. Since then I've started using a stainless steel reusable capsule with my own coffee which is a bit better but still not great as I think the pressure isn't high enough to make real espresso. I'm considering upgrading to a real espresso machine but the good ones seem to be made in Italy with a lot of tax added on for the Thai price.

I have a Dolce Gusto machine and I think it's a bit rubbish. Most of the cheaper espresso machines only come with a pressurised double wall portafilter too.

To be fair I think this is a valid point even for Thailand. As the battery technology improves, older EVs will become less desirable. I think someone recently mentioned they sold their 4 year old MG ZS EV for 560k which must have been less than half of what they paid for it.

Good for him but I'm guessing that's a luxury condo as most condos in Bangkok don't even come with one allocated parking space. Usually it's a free for all with only enough parking for around 35% of rooms and double parking everywhere.
