  1. They mostly sat around picking lice out of each other's hair. At least until someone showed up with som tam.
  2. If you review my post history you will see that I bought a large holding of rubles immediately after the war kicked off. I posted here recommending everyone do so. I was riducled relentlessly.
  3. You should visit my village to give pep talks. The elderly couple down the end of my street have resorted to ratting through garbage looking for cardboard to sell at the recyclers. He is a very skilled wood carver who used to do ornate boats (to display seafood in fancy restaurants).
  4. No its not. America, and the west, are systematically removing all of the off ramps to deescalate this conflict. Same thing happened in the lead up to WW1. The world went to war because of an isolated incident. That is where this is headed. But that has been the US plan all along.
  5. A few posters have misinterpreted the gist of my op. I was not commenting on the value of the AUD against the baht, but rather the huge 2% drop in a couple of hours (and I could not find any data points to justify the drop). Government invervention in the markets, both equity and currency, have made them all a farce and certainly not something properly defined as a "market". Perhaps the definition of market should be redefined as "conduit for government intervention and manipulation".
  6. international reserves are well down: https://www.bot.or.th/English/Statistics/EconomicAndFinancial/ExternalSector/Pages/StatInternationalReserves.aspx 1997 here we come.
  7. I noticed on friday that the Aussie dollar plummeted against the baht to the tune of nearly 2%. I scanned all available news sources to find out why but it was a still a mystery. Tonight I bumped into this article by reuters. The BOT is buying the baht: https://www.reuters.com/markets/asia/thai-policy-tightening-be-gradual-recovery-slow-chief-2022-10-01/ Things are getting pretty unstable now globally. Something has to break.
  8. Ask a good lawyer. And certainly not the one who just handled your divorce.
  9. The military is no longer in charge. It is just one person and if you don't know who that is you are hopelessly ill informed.
  10. Yes. You are not getting any photos. I told you if you did not believe me just stop posting on this thread. Simple right? The girl is 17. She is now living full time in my GFs parents house. She is quite useful in the kitchen for her age apparently, and so that has come as a bit of a relief for the GFs mum who is getting on. I joke with my GF about what she does all day asking if she watched a lot of cartoons. She told me that the new bride heads out with her brother in his fishing boat and helps him to set and gather the nets and sort the fish for sale. To me the girl does not look like a child. She looks like a pretty young teenager. She has a lovely smile and olive skin. She would look a lot more mature if she grew her bobbed hair longer. She finished school years ago but maybe the bob is a lot more practical in the village.
  11. Oh it's coming all right...It is hilarious that you think that politicians (or even the military) are in charge of the decision.
  12. Relax. It is only humpback whales bubble netting.
  13. You need to stop lying. Even the most basic inverter knows that Australia has 240v 50hz supply. Apologise to it, tell it you will never lie again, and once trust is again established you will enjoy a much more rewarding and trouble free relationship.
  14. The fee is already in place at many entry points due to corruption. Before covid I would drive down to Kota Bharu in Malaysia each year via Sungnai Golok. Upon my return I see that all Malaysian crossing the border into Thailand have to put a 100 baht note in their passport before handing it over to the IO. One of my good Malaysian friends is a bit of a lark. I was in the queue behind him one day and he handed has passport over but he had put five and ten baht coins in it, not notes. The coins spilled out all over the metal IO counter and the long line of people had to muffle their collective laughter.
  15. At about 23 I decided there were two things that I would never do for the rest of my life. 1) Mow grass 2) Wash a car. How pathetically devoid of meaningful activity is your retirement when you have to mow a shabby patch of weeds on the side of the road.
  16. Who are the alternatives? Anyone with a modicum of promise is has already been arrested on trumped up charges.
  17. Meanwhile, all the the unattractive female anti junta activists are sitting in prison. She is a beautiful girl no doubt about that, but I am constantly surprised how easy an attractive woman's life is.
  18. This is an unexpected windfall for Somchai. Absolutely no chance that he will buy or wear a condom now.
  19. Just a few more weeks and then the gas tap will be turned off permanently. Rioting in the streets in Europe this winter.
  20. Sigh....
  21. Expat friend of mine with a short temper was refused renewal this week because he failed to keep track of the money in his account and it fell below 400K for just a few weeks because he loaned out some money to a friend (This is his story but may well be the case he is sharing deposited funds with others). Anyway the IO just told him straight to his face she would not do his extension. He exploded, jumped to his feet told everyone to go f88ck themselves and then left. He got straight on a plane to Patts and did his extension with an agent the next day. He will be heading back to Phuket next week. Don't know how he will get on when he has to do change of address form.
  22. Well done sir. I have just sent a link to the GF and told her to send it to the brother. She is sitting in the other room. She said very old clip 11 or 12 years already and every one already knows it. Though I must say the old chap in the video looks much better shod than the older brother. The girl in the clip is also snow white (of course).
  23. Well for the doubters I am pleased to inform that the Pukan took place this morning. It was held under a tree on a patch of red dirt on top of a collection of grass mats. No food just some water in old coke bottles and some lao khao. The groom is no oil painting. Very thin and drawn face with short back and sides hair cut and wing nut ears. The bride is slim, pretty, lovely smile, nice complexion with tan skin (not white or black) but (in the words of my own GF) looks 14 not 17. She also still has the school kid bobbed hair cut which does not help. The ceremony was conducted by my GFs mother no monks. There was about 35 people in attendance including the girls parents of course. The girl was beaming and smiling the whole time from ear to ear so certainly not under any duress. In addition to the original 10K paid to the brides parents an additional 10K in sinsot was paid and....get this....a new pair of "genuine" Levi jeans for the brides father. The jeans were already in the groom's possession as they were sent over to him by another brother working abroad. The brides father saw these and wanted them absolutely...in fact the jeans would of been the deal breaker. A plate was passed around during the ceremony and those in attendance each put one or two hundred baht in it as a gift to the newly weds. My GF intends to transfer 2K to them but has not yet done that. So it is done and dusted now...and I have the photos and video clips sitting here on my computer. For those of you still looking for "the one" here in Thailand it would seem that purchasing a few fishing nets and a couple of wooden canoes is a clear path to success.
