Thinking same thing. Old guy probably rolling the dice saying he will do it a couple of times and quit. Obviously no Clint Eastwood like in the movie "The Mule"

Surprised not more of these stories in Pattaya with all the oblivious Indians walking in the street. RIP friend. Hope the driver has nice long miserable visit to the local jail.

Can afford a truck but not the 500 baht plastic piece from the scooter. Not sure the quality but I would assume any plastic part can easily be replaced for next to nothing if the prices on Lazada are a close representation.
-
Coconuts used to be about 16 or 18 baht, now same size is 45 to 50 baht. Both vendors I use to buy from Closed. No one buying at close to 3x price from a few years ago.
What will happen is same thing in US when they raised the wages for everyone. Prices will get to the point people living in Thailand will start cutting back and say "Nope"
Tourist, Rich people will still buy. Restaurants will close, people will be unemployed/underemployed and struggle.
Tax revenue from now closed Restaurants will disappear and Money will have to come from somewhere.

I seen a couple of videos, the one guy in I believe Prague compared prices between the grocery store and Duty Free and Duty Free was always More expensive.
Might be isolated comparison but the thought of lugging a glass bottle around while traveling hoping not to break it is Not high on my list for adventure.

Unless you put all your expenses in a spreadsheet and total it over many months it is hard to understand how much you need.
Rent, Electric, Water, Cable, Internet, Food, Mobile, Shopping (Phone, Clothes, TV, shoes) Insurance, Dental, Travel, Entertainment, transportation, Sporting Membership, Gym Membership, dining out, bar tabs, etc, etc
It starts to add up when you are Honest and add up all your expenses.
Hopefully everyone can live a nice comfortable, reasonable lifestyle and enjoy their time over here.

Sure it's just a misunderstanding.
Brit man "borrowed" The money and came back to Thailand to pay back the loan.
Unfortunately these people who you entrust with dispursing payments see the amount in
A business account and the temptation becomes to much.
I know a lot of small business owners who handle all their own banking, payroll, and bill payment
Because of the fear someone may "embezzle" money.

Meanwhile over here in Pratamnak our Motorbike Taxi man has had so few customers he couldn't afford a 2000 baht a month room and is sleeping on the streets. Tough life for some of these guys who do Not have a partner contributing to the household income.

Just my opinion but seems like some leadership who is pretty wealthy is attempting to turn Thailand into Singapore.
To fund these projects they will Tax anyone, anywhere that they can.
Money would be better spent on Improving the education system so graduates do Not need a calculator to subtract Foreign Elementary School amounts 302 - 272 = ???. Access to resources and support for students who have potential and who are bright to take advanced learning courses for Free or with discount to make affordable. How about requiring Food labels to clearly show how much fat, salt, sugar, cholesterol is in food.
Most labels I've looked at the Macro option on the Mobile phone is required to read the label.
Unfortunately the writing is on the wall. Enough reckless spending on investments with High Risk of failure and Low Potential of Profits and
Thailand will start defaulting on loans and the credit rating will drop, money to dig the country out will start drying up and have high interest rates.
To gain access to the Elite F1 teams and drivers and be able to party with people of same caliber it appears an invitation
has been sent. Party in Thailand 202? only people with helicopters, jets, massive yachts and high end exotic cars invited.

Watch the YouTube video "How a CIA base works" they talk about being able to exploit encryption on messaging apps, turning on web cams, microphones, etc. I can understand exploiting Windows. When I worked for GE they had special laptops that employees took to China that was freshly wiped and configured with very limited data on it.

If criminals are not aware Thailand had become pretty good at finding someone when they want to. This is Not the same Thailand from years ago.
I have heard that the seized assets are split so maybe the money is a Big motivating them plus the investment in Technology

Guess it is time to pool money for lawyers and lobbyists. Zero chance this will happen without Catastrophic consequences. Everyone is Everyone and High Net Worth Individuals, Companies and other will fight hard to make sure this does Not happen.
I'm sure next week it will be a big misunderstanding.

So if renting land require
To view Chanote, view and confirm Identification name matches. Possibly go to Land Office and verify no loans/debt.
Sounds like land lease so have a competent lawyer or real estate agent review the documents. Sign documents with witnesses. Definitely go and visit land, never know when someone may just build, dump tons of trash, or claim ownership of land.

No tax treaty here but, SS benefits were what they were after. And I checked every avenue possible. Not worth it for me. 170 days and I leave. And, these guys are not NEAR as save as Thailand if you can believe that. Allot of it gets unreported here with no consequences. Thailand, I would not even think about it until the smoke clears and don't listen to the armchair tax experts here.
Thailand is only after one thing money...
False, Misinformation.
The US/Thailand Tax Agreement is as of May 30, 2024 still Enforce. Per PDF Page 30 Article 31 Termination
6 Months Notice MUST be provided by USA or Thailand through Diplomatic Channels prior to the Agreement being terminated.
Social Security Benefits/Pensions PDF Page 23 and 24 Article Pensions and Social Security Payments.
These are only Taxed from the Source country which would be USA.
Almost everybody will Not need to worry about PDF Page 24 Pensions
b) However, such pension shall be taxable only in the other Contracting State if the
individual is a resident of, and a national of, that other State. My Opinion (Verify with proper authority) this statement is confusing but a National would be someone with Thai Citizenship Most will be Thailand Tax Residents but NOT Citizens.

It is Easy to hire a Slick Advertising company to put together a Promotion Video showing interests the
city wants to promote and market it to foreigners.
ALL the whining Negativity from the people on Aseannow will NOT slow tourism into Pattaya/Jomtien.
If it is Such a problem to You what happened when You went to City Hall and spoke with a City Official?
Chinese, Indians, Russia, Europeans, and others ALL visit, some buy Condos, some setup businesses in Pattaya/Jomtien.
The tourist who are coming to drink, looking for a friend for short or long time are usually visiting a certain area of Pattaya/Jomtien.
Families with kids visit another area. We all seem to coexist in Harmony.
It is up to the Tourist NOT US if, when, and where they Go and what Activities they enjoy.

In a Popular Mostly Thai Pattaya Bar/Resturant I can confirm
The Employee is made to pay an unpaid bill the customer does not pay.
Girlfriends son was working for only 10 days and went to get some food for another table
he said it took only about 3 minutes. Only about 400 baht but that is what he earned for working in one night.
This Same Popular Bar/Resturant All the employees were scheduled to work this week.
Manager notified All employees Monday when scheduled to Work, they will be Renovating the place and they are Closed for 5 days.
Unfortunately it seems some Thai Businesses should improve on How they view and treat their employees.
The employees are a key part of the success of your business and there is little benefit in treating them poorly.

Folks I thought this tax was for EVERYONE in Thailand including Thais.....Not a word has been said about a new income tax for Thais....
It was also quite kind of them to come out with the LTR visa the LTR excludes the richest expats from paying any tax..Which pores cold water on saying the income tax is needed to raise money...When the most well-off expats are excluded from paying any tax.....
This half baked mess of a tax has more holes in it than Swiss cheese....Savings excluded,Gifts excluded, Treaties excluded, ATMs pretty much excluded etc etc etcThe whole thing is pretty much a hopeless mess.....
Misinformation, Please provide Any information to support Thais will Not pay Foreign Sourced Income Tax.

I think a lot of the retirees will end up moving to another country now and most likely Cambodia or Vietnam as they won’t be able to afford being taxed in Thailand plus anyone thinking of Thailand as a place to retire now would seriously be thinking of a new destination. All this is definitely going to hurt places like Hua Hin, Pattaya, Chang Mai and outer Phuket where a lot of retirees currently live.
Why? Provide references for your statement.
US Tax Agreement PDF page 23 pensions and social security may only be taxed by USA.
All tax residents are allowed similar Thai Revenue Tax deductions and Exemptions.
So These people Will spend all the time to pack up and move But not 1 hour to read, understand or consult with a professional?
Develop your strategy. Use Every Legal deduction, Exemption, law and order that any reasonable and capable person would use. Start NOW, keeping proof, documentation, of the Source of this Assessable Foreign Sourced Income if it will be Remitted into Thailand.
Maybe these people need pictures to better understand Google Thailand Revenue Department. Taxes Foreigners_Pay_2024.pdf
Relax and go back to Enjoy this Great Country of Thailand

How would you verify any information in the statement, or that it is even a real statement? The US Embassy won't do it, and I doubt anyone in Thailand will accept a foreign issued bank statement. Like I said, they need to clarify a lot of things soon!
My opinion send the documents to Notary for the state your bank branch resides. Do an online meeting and identity verification. Have them verify the documents.
The official digital statement, a web print out from the online account may be necessary. The contact information for your local bank branch. Present all documents to requesting Thai Authorized Agency. Inform them US Banks operate differently and if further verification is Required the contact info and hours of operation of your bank are on the document.
Please do Not be Rude, or Angry with these Thai Representatives We Are All learning how Foreigners Paying Taxes process is going to work.
Remember Thai's place living in Harmony highly.

Thanks for all the tips. Girlfriends mother's house has this problem. Clogs up all the spray nozzles.
Probably going to look into some type of water system that best reduces the scaling.
