  1. I get my Thai Partner to pay all the bills. Far less stressful and easier for a Thai person to pay bills. I have even transfer my car to her name. She deals with all the Insurance, Road tax and when to get repairs done before switching Insurance company etc. she even pays her elderly mother’s electric bill, saves her going to the office. But sometimes the scanning doesn’t work!
  2. I have just done this, but not from abroad. I had to sign a form from the transport Office / Vehicle License Office, then the Thai National also has to countersign the same form. That’s all I had to do. The Thai National then took the car to the Vehicle License Office where the car was examined and an estimate made on the value of the car. You pay 600THB for every 100 000 THB of the car’s worth. so my car was valued at 150,000, and the Thai National therefore paid 855 THB, then a further 50 THB admin fee. That’s it
  3. I am a UK passport holder and visit relatives in Canada regularly. I live in Chang Mai and would like to take my Thai wife for a holiday ( family reunion; Brother’s 96th next year) I know that I need an A ETA which I can get online. But does anyone know or have any experience of getting a tourist visa for a a Thai wife? Can it be done here in CM at the VFS Office? Many thanks
  4. Mind Cafe, Suan Prung ( Chiang Mai) has real ale on tap and loads of craft beers. Opens from 5pm.
  5. My experience flying back from LHR to BKK was very good. LHR was the nightmare upon arrival, long queues! My wife with a Thai passport got through long before me. I am vegetarian and requested such food which I received and it was very good. I got as much drinks as I wanted. I always find their staff more polite and helpful than Western Airlines. The flights was also cheaper than others at the time, this was in June.
  6. Thanks for the few helpful replies. I didn’t request a cheque but that’s how the Company sends money to those abroad. unfortunately I am unable to download my UK Bank App in this country. But I will bear that in mind should it change. I have also requested the Company to transfer the money in future directly to my UK Bank.
  7. I recently tried to cash or deposit a cheque which I received from the UK. ( Premium Bonds small win), but my Bangkok Bank told me that I would have to pay 55 USD fee to do so. I couldn’t understand her reasons. is this standard for all Banks or should I be switching to another Bank? I ended up posting the cheque to my daughter in the UK for her to deposit, if it doesn’t expire by then. It took a month to arrive here by post!
  8. I returned from the UK 3 weeks ago. I went to Immigration in Chiang Mai with my wife who completed the form. The Uniformed man there who was in charge said that it was no longer needed. They never took the form. But I have a friend who rents his Condo through AirB&B and he has to do it for his Tenant. If you’re at the same address, married, we were told not necessary. I will know for sure when I go tomorrow to renew my annual Retirement Visa, and they don’t make me pay a fine for not reporting in!,
  9. I am British married ( not legally) to a Thai. Our house is in her name, but paid for by me. should she pass away before me, she wants me to continue living there. she intends making a Will to this effect. would such a Will be accepted in Thai law? would the property pass over immediately to her nearest relative? any ideas on the best course of action? Or will I be homeless? immigration has evidence that I have been living there. thanks for any suggestions
  10. Thanks Guys that was very helpful. yes it has been scrapped, if you’re living at the same address! no need for T30, but there is still a Dept. that deals with T30 for others.
  11. I am on a Non O, Retirement visa, and just returned from the UK after a 3 weeks vacation. I did have a really-entry permit. Is it still normal practice to report in with the T30 form? Within 24 hours? Thanks
  12. I get Prosteride ( Finasteride) from a Chemist in San Pee Seua, Chiang Mai, 300B for 30 tablets for enlarged prostate. But my brother in law in Canada is prescribed Dustasteride, which research shows to be more effective and cheaper. I believe they can take up to 6 months to be effective.
  13. Thanks for the answers gentlemen. very helpful indeed.
  14. Long time since like others, I have left Thailand! Can anyone confirm if Re-Entry Permits are still available at Chiang Mai Airport. Many thanks
  15. In my 10 years here, I have received only letters with a ‘tracking number’, or registered, any other way I have never received many birthday or Christmas cards. I have asked relatives not to send anymore. My UK Bank will never post my ATM card when it expires. They say that it’s not safe. I have to go through the complaints department and they will have it sent to my daughter’s address in the UK and she will post it to me ( with a tracking number).
  16. Excellent reply! Selfishness seems to be a Western disease! I am alright Jack!
  17. Good Morning, I am UK citizen living in Chiang Mai, Thailand , Retired. My Thai Partner applied for a UK Tourist Visa to accompany me. We were planning to go for last Christmas but canceled because of the uncertainty with the new Covid variant. So her visa has a date up to the 23 May 2022. Does this mean that after the 23 May she cannot enter the UK or when she enters the UK anytime before the 23rd, the British Immigration will stamp her visa for 180 days from the date of arrival? We are planning to go in the latter part of May. Thank you for your time. Kind Regards Taran PERSAUD
  18. I was booked to go to the UK for Christmas, but canceled. my that wife got a Tourist visa for the UK which expires on the 23 May. We’re planning to go in May, but if we were to stay over the 23May, could my wife apply there for an extension? many thanks
  19. Sorry it’s not me who need a visa. I have a UK passport. my Thai wife applied for a Tourist UK and got one which expires on the 23 May. but we want to go later that week. I was wondering if VFS will be able to give her an extension?
  20. On the subject of Visa. I was planning to go to the UK for Christmas but had to cancel and got a voucher! my wife ( Thai) visa expires in May and we want to goat the end of May. does anyone know if she can get an extension or have to apply for a new visa? we applied in Chiang Mai, but in Phuket now for a short time. also I finding it hard to use the Qatar voucher online. I will go to their Phuket airport office and try. anyone had this experience?
  21. Can someone please advise me about the Mor Prom app? when I download the app, it’s in Thai/ English, and asks for an ID well since I don’t have a Thai ID, I used my passport number, that didn’t work. then I tried my vaccination number and that didn’t work either! Any idea what I am doing wrong? Thanks
  22. In CM the Pool League restarted a couple weeks ago. Several Bars in the League are opened until 11pm, at least about 8. If I am correct. Mondays; Tuesdays & Fridays. in addition a few other Sports Bars and a new Riverside Restaurant & Bar recently opened, Mae Tai. UN Irish, until 11pm ; Renegades open until 2am I live in Mae Rim, quite a few there in Mae Rim Plaza. One other has been opened almost throughout Covid! if you look you will find! Also many Thai BBQ places are packed! Of course the Night Bazaar is dead, no tourists and several places have closed, true. But you can certainly find entertainment if you look. Karioke Bars in Chang Phuak also buzzing! All Thais of course, plenty Bangkokians here every weekend. A lot go to Mon Jam, busy there too! Not the same as before, but not quite the doom and gloom as some have eluded to. A few Bars in Galate Market open as well until late! I went to a party there last week!
  23. What if someone tests positive? then what? Expensive hospital treatment? Insurance cover? How will short term tourists be affected?
