  1. Thanks for all the suggestions and advice. I will get another Thai Will to deal with access of the Fixed account in my Thai Bank and later when in the UK get a separate, UK Will.
  2. My UK assets is only money in the bank there and the arrangement if for it to be divided equally to my 5 children in the UK
  3. I have a Retirement Visa with the usual money required in my fixed account. what I would like to know is if I should die before my Thai wife, how can she access this money. I have a Will made in Thailand but have my son’s name as executor, as I felt that he would be able to deal with finances on the UK side more easily. My house and car here is in my wife’s name. We’re not legally married. Grateful for sharing your experience / advice in dealing with such a situation. Many thanks.
  4. Why Not, a great Italian restaurant is a great choice. In Nimin, car park 50B nearby. Expensive wine but some cheap Thai beer! o’Mally’s in Anusarn market another top choice. Free car park.Guinness and good beers & wines UN Irish usually have 3 sittings, great selection but pricey and large portions. Car park at the back, behind Zoe’s. Great selection of drinks.Guinness included.
  5. I have been using Wise for a few years. recently the money is in my account within 2 minutes or less
  6. If gambling is one of her problems, then she may very well need an addiction center. Many in Thailand with Thai speaking stafff. Residential Care is essential, addiction is not the easiest to treat. But the Thai Centers have Pyychologists and Psychiatrists, Non- residential or out patients could be a waste of time and money!
  7. If you tried drugs and it didn’t work then she hasn’t a psychiatric problem!, her problem could be psychosocial. In which case a Psychologist or Counselor should be able to help. you have been sent some links. Maybe worth trying. Many Aussies have taken Thai women back. Some speak very good English, if you could find one as an Interptreter. Or as someone suggested, get her back to Thailand for treatment
  8. My suggestion is to first get her assessed by a Psychiatrist. once a diagnosis has been established then a treatment plan would be recommended, this may involve seeing a Psychologist. I say this because I am not sure if your wife’s mental health issues are of a psychotic nature. if it is then Psychologist can only support or advice. She will need medication. I say this as a Retired Psychiatric Head Nurse with years of experience in the UK and here in Thailand. I visit the Psychiatric hospital here in Chiang Mai regularly and they are about 30 years behind time! But their medications are up to date. mindfullness, meditation, talking therapies don’t work for someone whose thinking is disturbed, even though they can hold down a job. The above is the way forward. You need to know what exactly is wrong with her. Mental Health problems is broad and vague. I know many Thais here with different types of mental health issues. Some are trauma linked to an early age. Others suffer from more irrational thoughts. Different approach needed depending on diagnosis. Hope you choose the correct path. Some Big Insurance Companies offer assessments online.
  9. I am a Member of Air ASIA, I have an Air ASIA debit card from BKK bank. I get vouchers for red seat, baggage allowances and free drinks, depending on how much I use their card. It’s actually issued by BKK Bank. I have never had a problem, except you have to be careful booking online as some of their boxes are pre-ticked, so you have to ‘ untick’ them or you get charged for Insurance etc etc Any problems that I have with Airlines, I use my Twitter account to contact them. I get a swift reply and usually the problem is solved. I have a voucher from Qatar Airways which expires in December 2023, and trying to sort it out this way. Every time I try to book acUK flight, I get a reply that the voucher exceeds the amount. When I try to book for my partner as well, the response is that the voucher value is insufficient! They have given me a link to follow!
  10. I get my Thai Partner to pay all the bills. Far less stressful and easier for a Thai person to pay bills. I have even transfer my car to her name. She deals with all the Insurance, Road tax and when to get repairs done before switching Insurance company etc. she even pays her elderly mother’s electric bill, saves her going to the office. But sometimes the scanning doesn’t work!
  11. Any help on what fees the Agency used to charge?
  12. I have just done this, but not from abroad. I had to sign a form from the transport Office / Vehicle License Office, then the Thai National also has to countersign the same form. That’s all I had to do. The Thai National then took the car to the Vehicle License Office where the car was examined and an estimate made on the value of the car. You pay 600THB for every 100 000 THB of the car’s worth. so my car was valued at 150,000, and the Thai National therefore paid 855 THB, then a further 50 THB admin fee. That’s it
  13. I am a UK passport holder and visit relatives in Canada regularly. I live in Chang Mai and would like to take my Thai wife for a holiday ( family reunion; Brother’s 96th next year) I know that I need an A ETA which I can get online. But does anyone know or have any experience of getting a tourist visa for a a Thai wife? Can it be done here in CM at the VFS Office? Many thanks
  14. Mind Cafe, Suan Prung ( Chiang Mai) has real ale on tap and loads of craft beers. Opens from 5pm.
  15. My experience flying back from LHR to BKK was very good. LHR was the nightmare upon arrival, long queues! My wife with a Thai passport got through long before me. I am vegetarian and requested such food which I received and it was very good. I got as much drinks as I wanted. I always find their staff more polite and helpful than Western Airlines. The flights was also cheaper than others at the time, this was in June.
  16. Thanks for the few helpful replies. I didn’t request a cheque but that’s how the Company sends money to those abroad. unfortunately I am unable to download my UK Bank App in this country. But I will bear that in mind should it change. I have also requested the Company to transfer the money in future directly to my UK Bank.
  17. I recently tried to cash or deposit a cheque which I received from the UK. ( Premium Bonds small win), but my Bangkok Bank told me that I would have to pay 55 USD fee to do so. I couldn’t understand her reasons. is this standard for all Banks or should I be switching to another Bank? I ended up posting the cheque to my daughter in the UK for her to deposit, if it doesn’t expire by then. It took a month to arrive here by post!
  18. I returned from the UK 3 weeks ago. I went to Immigration in Chiang Mai with my wife who completed the form. The Uniformed man there who was in charge said that it was no longer needed. They never took the form. But I have a friend who rents his Condo through AirB&B and he has to do it for his Tenant. If you’re at the same address, married, we were told not necessary. I will know for sure when I go tomorrow to renew my annual Retirement Visa, and they don’t make me pay a fine for not reporting in!,
  19. I am British married ( not legally) to a Thai. Our house is in her name, but paid for by me. should she pass away before me, she wants me to continue living there. she intends making a Will to this effect. would such a Will be accepted in Thai law? would the property pass over immediately to her nearest relative? any ideas on the best course of action? Or will I be homeless? immigration has evidence that I have been living there. thanks for any suggestions
  20. Thanks Guys that was very helpful. yes it has been scrapped, if you’re living at the same address! no need for T30, but there is still a Dept. that deals with T30 for others.
  21. I am on a Non O, Retirement visa, and just returned from the UK after a 3 weeks vacation. I did have a really-entry permit. Is it still normal practice to report in with the T30 form? Within 24 hours? Thanks
