Giving an opinion....but not stupid or gulliable enough to drawn in by the troll question.
-
I can't for the life of me believe that any sane person would actually consider answering this question, and I'm even more baffled that some people have actually commented on it.

People everywhere, unless they're nutters, are very calm and mind their own business.

Will Immigration take my bottle of duty-free away?
Cardano replied to pollyog's topic in Suvarnabhumi Airport Forum
If she purchases it in duty-free she will need to show boarding pass for destination, if acceptable it will be placed in a sealed duty-free clear plastic bag and so long as it remains sealed she'll have no problem with customs or at security check. If she is relly worried then tell her to buy locally, put into checked-in baggage and check baggage through to final destination. -
So you'd have stayed and let him tw at you with the hammer?

So I contacted NBTC about this license issue and it transpires that if you travel out of Thailand you can legally bring back devices such as a mobile phone, tablet, laptop and set top boxes etc. But if you're in Thailand and you buy online from a source outside of Thailand then you must have a commercial license (issued at quite a cost and a lot of paperwork and time) from NBTC otherwise any device that has the ability send or receive analogue, digital or optical signals will be seized by customs. To obtain such license you must have a Thai registered company and work permit with appropriate permissions to trade in such goods. The upside is that I contacted Amazon and after explaining the situation they confirmed the money paid will be credited back in full. It's no wonder companies find it a nightmare trying to do business here with all the red tape and bureaucracy.

Sorry for some reason my post uploaded with half the text missing so I'll start again; Ordered an Android Media Box from Amazon UK which price included all fees for custom clearance and was shipped via DHL International. Got an email yesterday from DHL UK stating shipment had departed UK and on its way to Thailand. Today I get this email from DHL Thailand stating that customs have impounded the item as the shipping invoice has a HTS code for which a broadcast and transmission equipment import license is required from the NTBC of Thailand. Contacted DHL and explained to them that Amazon website stated goods were eligible for delivery in Thailand and that the item is just a set top box for personal use and does not transmit or broadcast any signal, I then sent them the specifications to prove this point. Their response was I need to contact NTBC and either get a waiver letter or obtain the said license otherwise the goods will be destroyed. Has anybody else had issues like this and were you able to resolve them?

They don't really mean to complain it's just that they can't think of a better way to justify living in Thailand. -

In response to the original post; Japan is a country run by a democratic, virtuous, harmonious and intelligent regime. It does not condone corruption or allow 1% of the population to have 95% of the wealth nor does it impliment systems to keep 99% of the population at the intelligence level of a jelly fish. But the overiding factor has to be that Japans tourism authority is run by people who know what they're doing and don't come out with stupid speculative figures, don't rant on about how many trillions of yen each tourist will spend and don't have a completely self-serving, utterly incompetent organisation with the initials of TAT.

You could not in all honesty call it living, barely surviving would be more appropriate.

Simple answer......if it has then the only people who've benefited is the retail chain and not the consumer. Which is not what was intended but par for the course here.
