  1. finally, some common sense applied to this story, for those who actually want to take the time to read.
  2. A couple of people mentioned that condo owners list on facebook groups. Just wondering if you can tell me the name of those groups? Thanks!
  3. Ok, everything sorted, I think I'm ready. Thanks!!
  4. speaking of conflicting info...since this is my FIRST one year extension request (I have my non-imm O good for 90 days) is it still necessary to provide 12 months of bank records?
  5. Thanks Dr.Jack! I read elsewhere on this forum that bank info must be same day as application. So much conflicting info but I am confident you are correct.
  6. I booked an appointment at CW for my first one year extension .. for 8:30 a.m. Then I learned that bank statements must be completed same day as application... oiii. I can go to the Bangkok Bank branch downstairs, they open at 8:30 apparently. Just wondering what happens if I am late for my appointment, is it just cancelled or if I show up will they put me in the queue again. Has anyone here dealt with a similar problem?
  7. Ok, I'll join the fray, just for fun. Thakin's daughter will run for PM as the coalition falls apart (as expected) This is where it get's interesting. When you gain power the first (and only) task is to stay in power. So, since Pheu Thai has clearly betrayed the Thai people, and even if Thakin's money manages to buy many rural votes, it might still be necessary for them to keep their military alliance. So sad for Thailand.
  8. Further to this... reservations do not mean "I'll pay you later" If only that were true. Also,(regarding the capital needed) these companies choose the nearest country to your destination. If S.E.Asia is your destination, the cost of a foreward ticket is small. So, I don't want to go on and on aboiut this.
  9. Well, I disagree. They have purchased an "actual" ticket for me. The reason i know this ...when I was called to the counter before boarding my flight they entered my return ticket information..all good.
  10. Spent just a tiny wee bit of time thinking about this. The forward flight tickets we buy are claimed to be real. In my experience they are. These companies do not work in the shadows, they have websites and explain quite clearly what they do! They act as travel agents with a special cancellation feature. Airlines could choose not do business with them, yet they do. For sure, they know who has access to their reservation system. There may be a regulatory body (Gov.) that requires airlines to make sure passengers come AND GO. I imagine the times when ne’re-do-well idiots have to be repatriated are a very small cost to the airlines. Airlines want people to travel with ease, bums in seats. So I have the feeling they are ok with these companies. The conspiratorial in me thinks the airlines may actually own these companies, or at least require a fee for them to operate.
  11. That's what I did. I just call it a "throw away" ticket. Sorry for the confusion.
  12. My trip did not originate in Vancouver. I flew Westjet to Vancouver. I contacted their customer service and they said I should have a return ticket to Canada, so that is what I did. My throw away ticket cost a little more because I selected Vancouver as the destination. However, when I checked in at the WestJet counter they did not even ask about it, so I thought I was free and clear. In Vancouver I was flying on PAL (Philippine Airlines). They were the ones who asked to see my forward flight ticket. I bleieve they would have been ok with any destination.
  13. On Oct 4th I flew from Vancouver to Manila then to Bangkok on a one-way ticket. I was traveling visa exempt (no visa). Before boarding in Vancouver my name was called and I had to show them an onward ticket. Thankfully, I had purchased a throw away ticket for $24.
  14. I just returned to CW today to get my non-imm O visa stamp..she took my passport, said come back in an hour, so I did.lol No questions, everything was ok. I think you are right, once you have been approved in the original process, this last step is a breeze.
  15. While there are certainly many questions about this taxation issue, taking the time to research the tax treaties and providing that information, does not constitute a “guess”.
  16. I'm from Canada. Do a google search for: -Convention Between Canada and the Kingdom of Thailand- and you will find the following… Re: Contracting States. If he has an habitual abode in both States or in neither of them, he shall be deemed to be a resident of the State of which he is a national. Article 18 Pensions 1. Pensions and other similar remuneration, whether they consist of periodic or non-periodic payments, for past employment, arising in a Contracting State and paid to a resident or the other Contracting State shall be taxable only in the first-mentioned State. 2. For the purpose of paragraph 1 such remuneration for past employment shall be deemed to arise in a Contracting State if the payer is that State itself, a political subdivision, a local authority or a resident of that State. Where, however, the person paying such income, whether he is a resident of a Contracting State or not, has in a Contracting State a permanent establishment, and such income is borne by such permanent establishment, then such income shall be deemed to arise in the Contracting State in which the permanent establishment is situated. ... so as I understand it, because of this agreement I am not required to pay tax in Thailand.

  18. My thoughts on this are not about trade, but rather the dark road we are going down with the rise of authoritarian regimes. We are a species of warring tribes, history cannot be denied and we are long overdue for another global conflict and we are moving in that direction. Thailand may try to take the position of neutrality. They held on to that idea while capitulating to the Japanese in our previous world war, or they may decide to hitch their wagon to Russia and China. No one is fooled by that. As I said, it’s about choosing sides when deciding what sort of world we want to live in. China has no friends in Asia, aside from Russia and North Korea. That speaks volumes. Actions have consequences. Just my opinion.
  19. It does hurt Thailand, in many ways. It's very much about choosing sides and Thailand's actions will not go unnoticed.
  20. Re "confused" let me know, happy to clarify.
  21. Being on the wrong side of history means nothing if we have no future. We are going down that road it seems. Or not?
  22. This is true. Thoughts on geopolitics differ greatly depending where you are born or live. Still, it hurts the heart to see the Thai Gov. embrace a ruthless dictator. Then again, what is happening in Myanmar does not seem to bother them either. oiiii.
