The ‘no-nonsense’ judge set to face Donald Trump in the courtroom
LaosLover replied to Scott's topic in World News
It must be great to have the gift of clairvoyance. Can you pick me a lottery number as long as you're here? -
Continuing my tour of decidedly un-famous places in the American South, we now turn to Muddy Water's birthplace, a tiny old shack, located literally next to some muddy water. Just a small sign noting it, with a plea not to take pieces of it away as a souvenir. How many dopey blues fetishists would bother? Many, the shack was riddled with dings from idiots helping themselves. Noble ZZ Top had a section of the cabin fashioned into a guitar to auction off to preserve the place. It's since been moved to the town with a Muddy Waters Disney-like audio-animontronic singing when you press a button. The old crossroads vibe is gone forever. A waitress asked me why I was in Clarksdale. I told her. She responded, "If tourists will come down here to look at a sharecropper Sh shack, we'll throw up a couple of dozen of them." But "sharecropper" was not the adjective she actually used.

I only made 2 assertions. And yet you "lost count". That's seriously mathematically challenged. No wait, arithmetically challenged -which usually gets sorted out in grade school. -

There is no person on earth who'd love to break up the alliance and stick you with defending yourself on your own dime. If if you don't like your tax bill now, a second Trump term would bankrupt you and your pricey little socialist paradise -that only gets to have socialized medicine because we pay for most of your defense. Your future security is dependent on political moderates in the USA. Joe Biden would help you in a jam. Ask Nato. Trump would stiff you or twist your arm for something. Ask Ukraine. To sum up: Turkey voting for Christmas -after being sodomized. -

It's not convoluted at all. You're old guy, you need healthcare, he'd strip you of it if he could. His first act as president was to try to kill imperfect, but widely liked Obama-care. This is unarguable. Pretending it's "convoluted" is disingenuous. In Appalachia, I see collection jars for local children who need chemotherapy. I enjoy making fun of England, but sick children there don't have to beg for dimes to stay alive. NYPD is famous for overtime at the drop of a hat. After 9/11, my brother paid off his house in a year. In fact, their overtime budget for the year is already blown. Citing NYC cop overtime as proof of libruls being "terrified" is misinformed. No wait, it's deluded wishful thinking, mixed in with a goon-like desire to see people "terrified". Whenever Trump appears anywhere, local expenses for police and sanitation go through the roof. Trump always promises to reimburse them, but he usually stiffs them. That's why you see him performing his shows now in Waco, not Dallas or Atlanta. He needs cheap, nowhere venues because no one else wants him, even in the deepest red states. He may "love" Texas, but he stiffs them -just like he'd stiff you if he could. -
A very weird place if you ever have a couple of hours between flights in Charlotte, North Carolina (like, why would you?), is evangelist Billy Graham's birthplace -a pristine throw back interior of a money'd 30's house. If you remember homes in black in white early 50's sitcoms, this is the apex of the style. Nearby, is his reconstituted 1964 world's fair pavilion, where Jesus beats communism -without breaking a sweat, obviously. Not to mention the world's largest Thomas Kincaid painting (of ye olde rugged cross). Kincaid is generally regarded to be the worst famous painter who ever lived. There's a scripture-quoting talking cow for the kids too. Truly first rate BBQ sandwhich in the restaurant. Take a moment to snark at his grave on the way out. In a similar vein, Baton Rouge evangelist Jimmy Swaggart (got defrocked for having a prostitute urinate on his face) has an abandoned city of faith, now used for anti-terrorist training to wander around in, like you're in a Walking Dead episode. If you go on a Sunday, you can see people having Jesus epileptic fits and talking in tongues. Usually, Assembly of God churches (the most bed bug crazy) are closed to outsiders. You will be hugged within an inch of your life. Jimmy's cousin was Jerry Lee Lewis and his 85 year old self still plays the same minimalist piano style at the service.

The election was stolen. And Trump was completely impotent to stop it. Couldn't roll back a single result. Even when begging on the phone to Georgia. Even after sending fake electors. And yet, he is all-powerful and can solve all problems. But he needs dumb rednecks in red hats to help him. Or least send him a $20 bill. Why doesn't he ever walk six feet outside of Mar A Lago to talk to the dim witted miscreants waving signs on his behalf? Those people need to watch the Jennifer Aniston film classic: He's Not That Into You. -

Been to Jamaica a dozen times. Sadly, it's mostly black women chasing the rent-a-rasta's. There's an unfunny movie, How Stella Got Her Groove Back about Jamaica hookups. It rocketed Omar Epps to non-fame. Whities are rare, confounding possibly amusing stereotypes. And the total number of women seeking dusky pay for play is minuscule, nowhere on earth is there a female Pattaya.

I used to be a New Yorker living in Appalachia. It was the same brain dead regurgitation of Fox New talking points about transplants "ruining" their purity with their wicked ways. But when a Starbucks opened, it was all locals waiting on line for coffee. The new sushi bar filled up too. -
Def. When I used go to Ko Chang, and a whitie/bar girl combo would check into to the hut next door, I would immediately ask to move. In about a day, the fighting would begin. She wants to be back with her friends back at the bar, not dreading another thankless drilling in a straw hut -on the low end of the day rate. Isn't that the exact scenario she left Ubon to avoid?

Maybe they could give him a bigger cell and let him cook is own meals like in Goodfella's. Milania on the subject of conjugal visits: "I'm uh, a little busy". Ivanka: "I support my Dad and love the American people. I'm a little busy too. And I'm his preferred sex provider. Don't they let them have hand lotion in prison?". -

Why didn't man of principle, Shaman-head, plead innocent? Rightie response: "He was forced to plead guilty, forced, I tell you". Outrage when this happens to a black kid caught with a spliff: "HANG HIM!!!!". The charges against the Shaman are certainly google-able. Rightie amnesia and helplessness again predictably descends like red mist. -

As long as I'm killing time waiting for my cab to the airport, let me ask (again) about one of life's great mysteries: Why do brits and commonwealth types care so much about US politics? The last brit controversy I felt the need to have an opinion on was Oasis versus Blur (I voted Oasis, but I was a heavy drinker back then). I've long given up on asking "why do you turkeys voting for Christmas love someone who wouldn't deign to spit on your chav self and would take away your healthcare in a heartbeat?". Always radio-silence on that one. -

Trump is trying to move his trial to more republican Staten Island. Chances: Snowball in Hell. Seems a little desperate. I come from Staten Island, more love for him there, but the population is mostly civil service and cops, due to the residency requirements for those jobs. You know, big government, teat-sucking RINO's. -

Google image provides some funny pics of furry hat wearing imitators. Next up: "The Maga Shaman -now available for children's parties." Man, look at the jobs available on a we hire felons website. Lots of warehouse work, a bit to ditch digging. I guess he can let his gym membership lapse now due to his new career horizons. The definition of a chump. He agrees, as a self-described dupe. -

Tucker said at all levels people do this. I disagree. So I'm guessing your answer is no, you never heard of this happening. Hey, me neither. He also said that there's no way Biden could have gotten more votes than "crowd surfer superstar Obama". No record of Obama ever having crowd surfed. It doesn't even make sense; would his secret service detail allow it? Tucker makes stuff up whole cloth. His low info audience loves it. They're happy to check their brains at the door to enjoy the bracing oomph of a bit of made up in the shower righteous indignation. -

I used to live downtown. It's a lot of narrow streets. Riot-wise, far inferior to the open space around the Capitol. Plus the NYPD is a much superior police force than Washington DC. Barriers are in place, contingencies have been planned. On the other side, the last riot was to "save democracy". Trump getting a fine? Much less urgent. Not to mention his followers having seen what happens when you touch the very hot stove of federal charges. Uptick for his fans. Their beloved Shamen has been released from jail early for being a model prisoner. He says he's very sorry for what he did and was duped. -

Tucker said: "people pay off people to buy their silence all of the time". True in your experience? -
2 times for protesting the Vietnamese war (I'm old). I was lying down in the street to stop traffic both times. An anti-war demonstration is where I lost my virginity, on the floor of a super-liberal church, between 2 pews. 1 time while being deported from England (visa overstay, had to marry the brit in question). Went to the Bangkok jail back in the Lonely Planet era and brought vitamins and Marlboro's as advised. Said the prisoner (they rotate them), "Is this all you brought?". I think you need a name to visit now, which you can get from a country's embassy (tho how, I don't know). In high school, I worked at the military cemetery where John Coltrane is interred. A lot of jazz greats served in the army and were happy to avail themselves of free burial plots. Further music greats grave visit tales if there's any interest.

A recent poll of liberals reveals: "He's been making us gag forever WITHOUT a gag order". There's also a charge called contempt of court that he appears to absolutely itching for. A ruling judge will say: "Contempt? The feeling is mutual". -

In many such cases, a gag order is issued to stop the defendant from talking nonsense. As I understand it, in Trump's case, it's been upgraded to a ball-gag order. Stormy spanked him, and now a fat black guy will gag him. Kinky! -
Same in Chiang Mai. Saw a ton of Russians in the pots bars in October, haven't seen one in many a month. Amusing anecdote: Back in September, I was volunteering at a pot bar in Bangkok and about a dozen separate Russian backpackers were headed to Udon, to a pot form. I keep looking for the inevitable amusing article from my favorite poster, Webfact.

It's death by a thousand cuts once the indictments pile up. Not only is it expensive and time-consuming, but everything that you say or that comes out in trial #1 can be used in subsequent trials. And on and on. And if there's a poster child for not being able to keep his story straight........ Generally speaking, multiple trials means multiple new charges. Politico has good long read comparing Trump's dilemma with noted pedo, R Kelly who's indictment history is light compared to what Trump is on the hook for. R Kelly is jail for the next 25 years. https://www.politico.com/news/magazine/2023/03/30/donald-trump-indictment-r-kelly-michael-avenatti-00088097
