  1. Hello.

    I have a mid-2010 13-inch Macbook Pro which uses DDR3 1066Mhz SODIMM RAM modules.

I currently have 4GB installed but want to upgrade to 8GB but I cannot find the two required 4GB modules anywhere - all I can find are the same spec with a faster speed (1333).

The Apple store I went to (and several others) all have the faster speed, they tried that and my poor Macbook Pro crashes on startup, I performed some research and it seems that this Macbook Pro model in particular requires that speed specifically (1066Mhz) and will not function with any other. Ironically it will run 6GB if you use 4GB (1066) and 2GB (1333).

Where can I purchase an 8GB upgrade kit online (Apple website charges 13,000 Baht - no way!) that is moderately priced and offers cheap/free shipping to Thailand?

    Many thanks.

  2. I got through to the passport careline and they told me that it was all fine, had been processed and printed and sent back to me and that I should get it back within 2 days.

Ironically the lady on the phone offered to provide me a DHL tracking number but was unable to provide one as it had not appeared on the DHL website yet. I am betting that I may get the passport back before the DHL tracking number goes live. And I don't even know how they would contact me to give me that tracking number to start with.

Here's hoping I get my passport soon.

    Thanks.

  3. Hello Ianwuk,

i resently obtained my passport via Hong Kong, i would not worry too much at the moment. You say you sent your application off on the 16th September and they received it on the 19th, it take 4 weeks to process the application. I think that you should expect your passport back around the 14th - 17th October.

    Hello Geordie.

Is it usual though to have not heard absolutely anything about the process in any way? I am trying to call the passport careline now to see if they can help.

    Thanks.

  4. Hello.

I apologise if this has been done to death but I recently renewed my work permit and the stamps took up the remaining space in my passport. I filled in the renewal form, enclosed the fee (in Hong Kong dollars) and sent it to Hong Kong via DHL. I sent it on 16th September, it arrived and was signed for in Hong Kong on 19th September. Since then I have not heard anything at all regarding the status of my application, any problems etc.

I contacted the British embassy who said that if there were any problem then I would be contacted directly. I am unable to contact the passport care line listed on the website as I do not have a credit card. What are my current options? I am a little concerned as another poster on here posted their application around the same time as me and got their passport back and a receipt and everything but I have not recieved anything at all.

Is there anything I can do or anyone else I can contact as I am due to travel back to the UK in December and obviously need my passport back to do this.

    Any help/advice is much appreciated.

    Many thanks.

  5. I just want to know whether or not my application has any problems or not. Since they have not contacted me I assume it has been okay but I am still weary and would just like some reassurance about how the application is progressing instead of being left in the dark like this.

    Thanks.

  6. If anyone does manage to talk with IPS in UK, perhaps you could ask why we are still paying almost double the UK price for a passport when the passport issuing process is now dealt with in the UK.  The reason we paid more was because we were paying for expensive overseas equipment, security of printing, overseas staffing costs, etc.  That wouldn't seem to apply any more.

I asked that very question recently Tony, obviously not in person because as you know you don't actually get to speak to anybody, I advised that I was well versed in drafting PQ's and Ministerial Drafts so could I have a meaningful reply, I got a standard fob off and was advised to contact the FCO. I replied that the FCO had advised me to contact them, so could I have the courtesy of a meaningful response, I received a snotty reply from one of their work experience drones basically telling me to <deleted> off.

I did think about submitting a FOI request but I suspect they wouldn't answer citing it as being Commercial in Confidence.

Once applications are submitted on-line, which is in their Business Plan, they are going to find it very difficult to justify the extra fee, apart from delivery, but I'm sure they will find a way.

Somebody mentioned before that the extra cost was to fund possible consular assistance, I think that whilst this is probably true it is already built into the cost of a passport, obviously anybody who has a passport is likely to travel abroad and might need consular assistance - if they can afford it.

I sent my renewal application for a new passport on 16th September, it was signed for at the passport agency in Hong Kong on 19th September and since then I have not heard anything. I contacted the British Embassy, who, as said, were not very helpful and I don't have a credit card to call the care line mentioned. Is there any other way I can contact someone to actually find out what is going on?

    Many thanks.

  7. I tried doing this, on one computer the torrent was on around 45% on the other is was about 30%, I copied the torrent contents from computer A to computer B, overwrote when asked and then did a force recheck. It added the extra data and completed the download but all I had were a few songs completed and lots of .part files, even though uTorrent said it was 100% done.

  8. Lion works fine for me. I had problems with LastPass also but they have been resolved as LastPass released an update for Lion and the latest version of Safari and it works fine.

I love how if you burn the DMG file of Lion to a DVD and reinstall then it works fine but if you restart the Mac and hold down Control and R to access the recovery partition and select the same option then it forces you to verify yourself on the App Store and download the software directly.

No wonder they started marketing an official USB stick with Lion on for this very purpose.

  9. First of all do you have any programs that are still waiting to be shutdown, hence the waiting time? Second, if disk utility constantly tells you the drive is faulty then maybe the waiting time is related to my first point, an app is trying to shutdown but cannot be written to the disk for whatever reason and so it just hangs.
