  1. As someone who has encountered roundabouts in several towns in Thailand, they are not a solution. This is due to most driver's being unaware of their proper use. Right of way and other basic driving principles that we highly skilled expert farang drivers broadly take for granted as 'common sense' doesn't exist with the local drivers.
  2. Great idea. Then we'll be able to deduce from the stats who the arseholiest farang drivers are by nationality.
  3. My wife doesn't understand me either but she likes the Ranger. Finds it very practical with the market, school runs and the like. PS: There's always a nose-in parking spot in front of the Queen Vic on Soi 6. Unless I get there first of course.
  4. Yea, as patrolling along the river road, if the route, would be a waste of resources. Been a while, but as you say, very little traffic. Yes, it can depend on the route, road class and how busy it is. For example, on Highway 7 coming from Bangkok, you can see up to half-a-dozen police highway patrol cars. ...all parked up at their office where the #7 spur meets Sukhumvit in Pattaya.
  5. There's an option missing from both questions, as follows. 1. Which of these choices do you consider to be the most significant road safety issue? Lack of law enforcement. All of the options regarding bad driver behavior can be addressed by enforcing he laws. As for the infrastructure, there's nothing majorly wrong with it. 2. Which road safety measures do you believe would be most effective in improving safety? Enforce the laws. Not just the low-hanging fruit of speeding or DUI/DWI laws either. The whole gamut of habitual wrong-way riding, lane discipline, driving without lights and even driving without a license can be impacted by simply enforcing the specific laws that already exist. Drivers education isn't about sitting in classrooms and watching videos either. It's an on-the-job education which is accelerated when offenders are repeatedly stopped fined or otherwise punished for infractions. There's already enough police presence but once again, they're after the low-hanging fruit of helmetless motorbike riders or pulling over heavy trucks for arbitrary inspections on the main highways while ignoring the fast and the reckless in the outer lanes.
  6. You are aware that a truly free press isn't an option in Thailand and it has been that way for at least as long as there have been coups.
  7. Keep in mind that he who has most toys all the guns, wins. Always.
  8. You're the one arguing chemistry degrees and surgeons pay scales while mentioning toilet training for pets and avoiding becoming drug addicts.
  9. Do you have any narrower brushes in your repertoire?
  10. After which one can apply for Federal loan forgiveness. Is this a great country or what?
  11. Just make sure that this IS a young lady. You remember what happened the last time when you were still a verywealthychef.
  12. Steady on there Barry. This is an online English language tabloid puff piece in a country where the English language isn't afforded any notable status. Nobody's planning a murder, a gold heist or an insurrection here so no need for pithy investigations. That's reserved for rigged elections. Oh, wait...
  13. Don't matter. She's a stoner. Been there, done that, spun my wheels.
  14. The perpetual Thai political status quo? If the popular opposition wins, the incumbents and their paymasters will have to budget for a coup at some date in the future. This may be delayed several years if the new administration makes a decent fist of things and like their predecessors, repeatedly win the popular vote. However, if you nip them in the bud straight away, then the pre-planning is less onerous, noses can go back in the trough and the end game easier to maintain.
  15. How much (if any) of their income did your parents spend on your upbringing (if any).
  16. Wouldn't want to 'fly' with you. It's gear out, flaps extended BTW.
  17. In this case, 'high-end' probably means it was a cupboard on an upper floor of a 'sky box' style residential condo.
  18. What? You mean the cheap, non-endorseable, non-refundable and long-expired return ticket she didn't because of the high times she was enjoying under Thailand's ill-forged marijuana legalization?
  19. As our gran would say, there's nowt worse than a death by rampaging elephant character assassination.
  20. I guess in your book, the life-enriching fulfillment of watching your progeny live and grow into responsible adulthood through your efforts counts for less than the love and care they will reward you with in your dotage. Gone AND forgotten. https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2023/may/11/skeletal-body-of-man-who-lay-dead-in-flat-for-six-years-found-on-gas-check-visit
  21. I would be more ashamed that I obviously never bothered to try harder when faced with fiscal adversity. Just another cop out for the narcissist. PS: I am not calling you a narcissist.
  22. This was precisely the argument that my sister's former husband drummed into anyone who cared to listen during their mostly childless marriage. It's selfish and disingenuous to think that just because you probably couldn't hack it or have little faith in what the future holds, that's it better not have anyone else have a go at it.
