  1. Didn't get out much then while you were here? There's a whole different social scene once you escape 'Soi Sampan'. But first, you have to try and escape.

  3. Just stick red plates on the current F-5's. Believe me, the neighbors won't know the difference.

  5. That's the return to top of page button. I can't see on my PC screen where it gets in the way of emoticons. Then again, I don't use emoticons so maybe there's a clue. Or are you using AseanNow on a phone or tablet? I could see where a narrow presentation would move the button on top of the emoticon selector.
  6. What did the others say? How did you break the ice in those conversations?
  7. Years ago? Before the war? Speaking 'Ruski'? So you know the differences between other Slavic languages. Hold on... a redhead you say? Unintelligible? Angrily declining help? Sounds Scottish to me.
  8. This from the guy who wears the 'puck futin' t-shirt in public because he thinks it upsets the Russians. How many Russians do you know or have even spoken with? Trope spinning.
  9. No, no, no! It's truly awful. Believe me. People really, really need to stay well away from Isaan.
  10. South Korea. Before he was assassinated, General Park Chung Hee laid the foundations for the industrial powerhouse that his country would eventually become. It took Korea a further 20 years or so to shake off their thrall for the military strongman as a statesman but they became the first real 'Asian tiger' mostly under a ex-military watch. There's hope for Thailand.
  11. Or the UK's Two Para that issued condoms to the lads serving in Borneo to stop leeches swimming up their bell end. There was also a buddy system in place where, at the end of a wade through a swamp, you checked your buddies ring piece for similar intrusions, and he inspected yours. Formative experience.
  12. So you missed the Eton and Oxford-educated Abhisit's brief flight as leader before he flew too close to the sun?
  13. But only for one more year. Prayuth's constitution (the one that is still in effect) capped their shelf-life.
  14. I wonder if they read the text of their impressive PowerPoint presentations word-for-word like we do in the west?
  15. There's no shame in claiming success through 'strict measures' when the main contributor was probably the end of the 'covid extension' that enabled a lot of foreigners to play hooky.
  16. You would be surprised how many Thai shoppers have far greater fiscal liquidity than the average farang 'just looking, thanks' squatter.
  17. For the definitive answer, ask Immigration. However, based on the experience of a friend, albeit working with a recalcitrant Nong Khai immigration, I have a feeling that the school is correct and getting a new visa is required and/or easiest. I am pretty sure a Retirement Extension cannot easily be converted in-country to enable work but willing to be enlightened by any who have managed it. Again, it's important to state where any conversion was done as different offices do tend to enforce 'rules' arbitrarily.
  18. A foot at the table.. and a chance to turn the military tide. Bigger crumbs (that fall from the table).
  19. Evidence of three months of a £10,000 UK bank balance is what you need to show in the Royal Thai Embassy London eVisa application for a 90-day, single-entry, extendable retirement VISA. Evidence of monthly income of not less than 65,000 baht (approx. £1,625) or having the current balance of 800,000 baht (approx. £20,000), e.g. bank statements, proof of earnings, for at least 1 month is what you need to show in the Royal Thai Embassy London eVisa application for a 1-year, multiple-entry, extendable retirement VISA. Two months of 800,000 baht Thai bank balance is what you need to show at your local Immigration Office if applying for a 1-year Retirement EXTENSION when 'converting' from your visa or visa-exempt entry. Depending on where in Thailand you hang your hat, 'visa agents' charge between 15,000 and 25,000 baht for the LATTER with or without the financials (but trend towards the higher price for those who cannot self-fund). https://london.thaiembassy.org/en/publicservice/84508-non-immigrant-visas?page=5d6636cd15e39c3bd00072dd&menu=5d6636ce15e39c3bd000733c
  20. Wives aren't required to be present at Savannakhet for the 1-year MENO "marriage visa" either.
