Just finished upgrading a redundant Acer Aspire E14 that I had previously upgraded from the awful W8 it came installed with many moons ago. It was a student's laptop who has now graduated and thus the laptop was discarded. It needed a new battery (800 baht) and the charger had also gone missing (200 baht). Added 4 Gb of DDR3 RAM (180 baht) and replaced the original HD with a spare 500 Gb SSD (forgot the price). Reinstalled W10. Flies like a bird. The OP is not in Thailand so the price of a replacement depends on that local market but minimum i3 CPU, 8GB RAM, 500 Gb SSD and running W11 is pretty much standard and shouldn't be hugely expensive.

Pull the other one. I have twice paid deposits for new cars ahead of delivery at two different dealerships. I have been refunded when I managed to get the vehicles faster from another dealership. One of the dealerships was when I was living in the US.

I did the sign-up and purchase on their website, not on the smartphone. No idea about the facial recognition, as I was never asked for this on my android handset. The key is not conflating the need to activate the account with registering (activating) the SIM in the phone. Do step 3 before step 4. 1. Select the package you want. 2. Pay for it and activate the account, during which you get the option to select your US number which will be based on the home/billing address you provide. (have a cup of coffee) 3. Log in to your active account and purchase the up-roam option. Get confirmation (have another cup of coffee) 4. Scan the eSIM's QR code into your smartphone and add the eSIM (it will initially say "temporarily unavailable") (have another coffee) 5. The eSIM will be registered on the Thai networks. (beer time!) 6. Download their app to your smartphone and enjoy. The coffee breaks are so you don't panic or bolt the process since you are overseas and their systems are updating. You may get a SMS from them asking if it was you accessing your account from an unknown location. Just respond with "ALLOW" and it's all good. Also note that at no time was a VPN of any sort required. My internet here is via a DTAC 4G netsim.

How would a written agreement help the OP? Seriously? The prospective tenant agrees to the terms as stated in the advert and sends the landlord the refundable security deposit. The prospective tenant's circumstances change for whatever reason and cannot take up the occupancy. Under the agreed terms, the landlord thus retains the security deposit and doesn't need to wring his hands in moral despair on an anonymous internet forum. Now maybe, just maybe, this inclusion of a nominally refundable security deposit will put off some potential tenants. Maybe, just maybe, those are the sort of tenants that should be avoided anyway.

Then make sure that any agreement on a deposit is more than simply verbal; include this in the advertising such as "The security deposit is non-refundable but will be deducted from the invoice once the tenant takes up residence". That way, you don't need to worry about anyone's ulterior motives or waste your time asking them to prove something that is frankly nobody elses business.

Sure beats the 'logic' of certain forum members offering up answers to unasked questions along with all sorts of irelevant opinions and experiences that nobody's interested in, including the OP.

At the risk of getting my ass handed to me (again), I went back and looked at the OP. Nope. Absolutely no mention of interest in doing this legally or otherwise. The OP appears to be interested solely in registration and insurance.

It appears you have not fully read the OP. "My daughter is turning 16 this month. She would like to buy a motorbike, showing me photos of different motorbikes, it scares me. I'd like to buy her a car. Can I register and insure the car in her name, she is only 16?" I stand (sitting, actually) corrected.

Yes, who knows how much money the OP has lost due to this time waster. If you put a deposit down then renege, be prepared to lose your deposit. That's exactly what it says in the contract. Oh, wait...

So no clue what he meant then? For this morning's pedants, it is pretty obvious that the OP's erstwhile tenant was applying for a Thai visa at the Thai Embassy or Consulate in the foreign country where he lives.

Note that a noisome few of the forum's membership consider anyone residing in Pattaya to be of the latter persuasion. There's evidence there are also scoundrels living elsewhere in this Blighted Realm.

There have been reports of some immigration offices getting anal about the monthly stipend arriving on-or-about the same date each month. For example, the BoT decided that they would take a New Year holiday last Friday 29 December in lieu of taking it on Tuesday 2 January. For me, a transfer due to post last Friday won't post until next Tuesday. There has also been reports of some immigration offices requiring that anyone filing for a Retirement Extension needs to provide proof that the funds are from their homeland's government pension agency and not being very happy with self-funded or private pension funding. It behoves anyone pursuing any Extension to enquire at the Immigration office where they are filing to make sure they are compliant and avoid surprises. It's a pity that despite the well known fact that Thailand's various Immigration offices do NOT apply the same rules and regulations, people asking for advice here seldom state where they will be applying. Similarly, those offering their advice based on personal experience seldom state where that good or bad experience took place.

Meanwhile, in 'real world' Thailand... Not arguing the Thai laws and the regulations. Just stating that like most all Thai laws and regulations, they can handily be bypassed without penalty.
